I got to see a lot of these photos a few years ago when the Brooklyn Museum exhibited Gary's color work. They projected the original slides onto the walls. It was amazing. I'll have to get this book to see these images again in book form. Thank you for the video.

I'm not a reader, but ever since I was a kid I love picture books, or factual information books. Bigger ones too. This has inspired me to get some again. And I like his style. Thanks Matt and new year wishes to you and family.
As an edit. Can I recommend a British photographer, Shirley Baker. I love her stuff. You may already know her.

The level of printing in books like this and the Eggleston stuff makes them a joy to flip though. The images as you say, pop off the page. Although there’s that nostalgic feel with those 60’s outfits and colours there’s still something so amazingly lifelike about slide film that I think remains unmatched in beauty to this day. Lovely book, look forward to seeing some colour/color from you too Matt.🍻

Thank you for sharing that book, Matt. I have long been a huge Winogrand fan, and this book will end up alongside the many other books of his on my shelves.
His voracious eye and shooting style required he shoot mostly B&W. Winogrand stated in an interview that the expense of working in color made it largely prohibitive to him. A shame in a way, as he definitely had quite the eye for it!
It’s cool to see so many of his aesthetic choices (WA, tilted frame, dividing the photo with frame in frame, etc…) carried over so well into his color work.
There are many great books out there by and about this great American photographer. His work has stood the test of time.
    Thanks again for sharing.

In 2002 I saw the *Winogrand 1964* exhibition at the International Center for Photography in Manhattan. I think it was the first time his color work had ever been given its own showing. Some of the Kodachromes were printed quite big too. I hadn’t seen much of his color stuff before that, and was really impressed by it.

Before Covid I attended the Brooklyn Museum Winogrand color exhibit. Truly beautiful. What was shocking was there was no book to accompany the exhibit. This book is wonderful because there are so many new images. Winogrand isn’t known for his color work. He would frequently carry two bodies around his neck. Sometimes that 2nd body would have color film.

One note about the tilted frames - He said in an interview that he would never tilt the frame randomly. He would always line up the vertical or horizontal edge to something in the frame. Like in the photo at 2:40, the coat sleeve on far left is aligned to the vertical edge of the frame.

I’m still trying to figure out how color fits into my street photography. The subject you’re shooting and whether it requires color or black&white is just as important as personal preference in my humble opinion.
