This show was almost a year into the tour (11 months.) Anette's voice is in amazing shape after so many shows night after night. She deserves much more respect than the haters give her.
I miss Jukka on the drums a lot, his energy is totally different.

I agree with this comment so damn much that it hurts.The first time I saw Nightwish through a TV screen,it was Jukka's drumming that got me intrigued.I hope he gets better with the insomnia and returns to where he rightfully belongs.
Javier Ignacio Kai Hato is better drummer than Jukka but Jukka put the special sound in Nightwish

I first listened to Nightwish with Tarja then with Floor. For one reason or another I had missed out on Annete.
She's a pretty solid singer and very likeable. It's easy to be dismissive when both Floor and Tarja are unusually gifted vocalists, with a range that spans across multiple genres. There is a body of opera singers breaking down their work, they've really caught the attention of most of the singing world.
So in between these titans, with massive stage precense on top of their towering prowess, sits Annete. Facing the full brunt of the resentment from fans who want a founding member and key aspect of the bands sound until then.
Id also add that it must have been very difficult material thematically. The band was going through a dark period, and that must also affect her.
Anyway, I really dig her. Sure Floor and Tarja are towering giants, but Annete is certainly a very accomplished and likeable musician. Now to see her other work, can't wait!
What a beautiful soothing voice of Anette's. Her commitement to make the most from a song composed for another singer is nothing but moving.
It'd be unfair to compare her to Tarja since she always did her best to fill the void Tarja left.
Anette is AWESOME. It's just different. Tarja's voice on Nemo was totally different from Anette's style. And yet, she adapted it to her voice and did her best. Anette is a great singer.
Have you listen to the acoustic version they played with Anette in 2012? It's really beautiful and emotional.

@Johan So much bullshit I am not sure where to begin. But suffice it to say, they didn't take Wishmaster off the setlist because of Anette. They had it there all through DPP tour. It was replaced at the start of the Imaginaerum tour. And it wasn't until the next tour they started to perform it again.
Floor can't sing that song properly either. Only Tarja can, since it was made for her voice and her style SPECIFICALLY. It can't be replicated. Floor tries, but ends up like Anette. They both tried. They both failed. Miserably I might add. Still they perform it, so I don't know.. perhaps the guys don't care as much as we do.. *wink wink*
The Denver Debacle was a fucking tragedy, that is what it was. If you think that was a blessing, you seriously are no fan of this band. Ever since Floor came along, they have produced half assed shitty albums that have very little sales, to a point where the entire shit was published FOR FREE on RUclips so people would actually want to listen to it. Sure, their concerts are still cool, and Floor is a good live performer, but nothing more.

Especially Annette got bad deal. Her range and style so completely different from Tarja.
It's like asking Tarja to fill in for George Fisher as vocalist for Cannibal Corpse (ok that might be a of an extreme example, but you get the point)
you can hate Anette all you want but you can't deny the fact that Dark Passion Play is the best Nighwish album
I can deny it, it's probably the worst after AFF. There are literally 4 good songs on it.
I can deny that, Oceanborn is my single most favourite album in all of existence. PoTP might be one of the greatest songs ever created, but without it, DPP isn't worth listening to.

Anette is not bad at all as a lot of people say. She's just a different voice from what Nightwish fans might be used to at the time. Point is, Floor just fills the stage with her presence and her voice. She's the pefect fit for Nightwish.
Problem with those live recordings is that the sound quality is often not so good and so the singer sound off pitch... Poet and the Pendulum here is actually quite amazing, I never heared it before from Anette.
@@mitchthepower I saw her live at Graspop some years ago, and she sang off key the whole time. I think she was not right for NW, as Tarja sang much higher.
I heard a studio recording from last year and was quite surprised with the quality of her singing. So she can sing, but not NW songs.

Anette isn't bad. It's just she's not interesting at all. Ok voice but generic, weak, without feeling at all. Maybe she could work on another genre, but I've been wondering since then why Tuomas hired her.

I love all three vocalists they've had but everything Anette does at 3:50-4:50 in my eyes (or, well, ears) means she owns Nemo. She put her own twist on it performing live and it's so beautiful it brings me to tears.
At the time of Anette's debut with Nightwish, i remember feel weird to hear the old songs without Tarja, but when i heard the new songs, gosh what a beautiful voice. She is great, but she came into the band at the time when all the fans were used to hear Tarja's voice and felt the change as big deal for the different style of sing.
I have no idea why people bash this woman. She is a far more capable vocalist than 99 % of what you would hear on the radio.

Concuerdo. Para mí Floor es una gran cantante pero se me hace difícil distinguir su voz sobre la banda; en cambio, si bien la voz de Annette es dulce, es muy potente y sobre sale.

For 13 years I've been trying to understand what people find to reproach to Anette, I simply can't get my hands on it.
Watching the documentary it seems they had two tours of hell with her. Reading between the lines she seemed a bit too much little miss I me me away from the stage. Remember it's not just about those couple of hours onstage when on tour.

Without insulting the OP… Early Nightwish fans adored Tarja, and were really upset when she left the band abruptly in circumstances that have been well documented. They directed their anger towards Annette, who didn’t deserve any of this vitriol. The other reason is that while Annette has a lovely pop tone, Nightwish’s songs tend to be epic and require heavier, more technically attuned voices. Tarja and Floor delivered, and some, whereas Annette, can be a bit meh in these songs. Listen to the Poet and Pendulum sung live by Floor, or Nemo, by Tarja, and you’ll hear what I mean. Sonically, Annette didn’t fit well within Nightwish.
@@jejese1503 It must be a matter of personal taste, because while I loved Tarja all the way, I can't get myself to appreciate Floor, whose performances I find to be very showy and lacking in sincerity (overdoing the form and smothering the feels with screams, effects and postures). Annette had this warmth and softness that can't be found anymore, and besides the whole treatment she received was a pain to look at all the way. The Nightwish I loved is also gone in the songwriting, so I'll just be one more of these old fans sticking with the old times. And for now I'll listen to Annette's solo stuff that turns out to be nice and refreshing.

@@sonjaemery Yes, according to unofficial numbers it is. If we go by the official numbers, Once still has the throne of their best selling list. Its not easy to know what numbers to trust, since the official numbers are often not inclusive enough. The unofficial numbers usually count everything. So you are probably right though. But hardcore morons like Franco here likes the official ones to degrade Anette a bit. They just can't help themselves.
I have to admit it. Until Floor showed up, I stopped listening to this band for a few years. However, I'm older now, and I have to admit that at least Anette tried to sing the songs. Nemo doesn't sound that bad, the problem I can find that compared to Tarja, well, it's a different vocal range and that's it. At least she's happy with The Dark Element now.

lost track on what annette is doing now, so thanks for letting me know shes singing in the band The Dark Element. i've been a fan of NW since 2003. so ive seen 2 singers come and go, I'm also dutch and i know floor from her band after forever since they started. and to see her recovering from a burn out wich led to her quiting after forever. im so happy shes with Nightwish now. but i also like annette on the 2 albums she made with Nightwis. shes not a bad vocalist, just very different from floor. but then again floor is so technicall that she can sing really anything.

The presence of Anette in nightwish after Tarja was difficult but her pop voice fit great with the new era and its makes the entrance of Floor more epicness because of her ability to sing pop and some of lyrical!
I'm still waiting a true great song write for Floor, the last album has a big fare in vocals to me!
Love this song and all the different singers but a fan made a comment that stuck with me really good. All three women are great in their own ways but check this out: Anette is the "Fairy," Tarja is the "Sorceress," and Floor is the "WARRIOR!" Sorry folks but it is what it is and opinions are there but the facts are there in black in white. Floor is the new voice and she pulls it off damn well. I'm sold. Still, I love all 3 of them. But Floor is my new favorite. She's tough, thick, strong, and bad A$$! A++

If you want me to be honest. When it comes to live shows, I find Annette making the band sound more like a cover band. Tarja and Floor have more power to their voices. Annette sounds good in the studio but doesn’t deliver live. She still has a big contribution to Nightwish, but I would rather listen to the studio albums when it comes to her vocals

I hate the comparison between Tarja, Anette and Floor, each of them has their own style and their own vocal timbre. I think all three have done a great job, the songs of Nightwish are still, in every version, fantastic. The vocal changes did not affect the music of Nightwish much, although they changed it in some way. What strikes me, however, is how the lack of Marko's voice is changing the style of Nightwish currently. Troy and Floor are doing their best, but Marko is missing a lot, more than you might have thought

Anette takes so much shit from the fan base. I personally like all the all the singers, and I typically hold floor and Tarja in a higher regard than Anette, but goddamn this is great. Is it just me or does she sound better live than studio?
imo: Nightwish sounds better live than studio. The reason many dislike Anette is because she misses power. Anyways, now with Tarja, there is a shitload of power!

Well if you listen The Poet and the Pendulum, then Marko also sounds much better in Wacken 2013 than in this 2008 version. And the boy's speech is much louder than in the 2013 version. And Anettes mic is smaller volume than Floor's mic. You know what? They arranged this song again - and improved it.

I'll give floor GLS, Floor embodies that song but not the poet,,,no fucking way on God's earth.this one belongs to Annette.
Going back and listening to these old performances, especially from Anette, it puts in perspective how great Floor's singing really is. She is streets ahead of Anette and Tarja. And that's saying something because Tarja is a great vocalist in her own right. Floor is, in my opinion, the best of the 3. The stars were aligned when she came to the band. I they continue for many, many years.

She was the best Singer from Nightwish! The Poet and the pendulum and Imaginarium are only For Anettes Voice. Such a perfekt combination. The Album with Floor is the worstest from Nightwish.

Nemo sounds beautifully in her voice. She lacks technique but it’s so sweet and pretty, yes it’s not with that rounded sound Tarja gave but it doesn’t make it bad, just different.

Tarja struggles in A LOT of parts. Anette did great in NW, Tarja is just overrated due to the fact that she was the first singer and some old fans are emotionally attached to their memories of when they discovered NW. However, technically speaking Tarja is nothing special. Not a huge range, good (good, nothing so impressive) in the operatic parts but very weak in evrything rock or metal.
The point is that for most people Tarja was the FIRST operatic they've listened to, so they tought she was amzing but if you search in the operatic singers world you can easily find singers better than her at that. And however, as soon as she used to go out from the opeartic style you could hear her having a lot of problems.
And it's not a Anette-Floor debate. Anette did get a lot of shit and hate way before Floor joined NW. And way before most of NW fans even had a clue of who Floor was.
The hate Anette got was from Tarjaolics not from "floor fanboys".

Anette did more than a god job, shes fuckin awsome! I like her voice more than Taras. My full respect to Anette! Known as a Pop Singer voice not as a metal voice,you never forget that! Only the people from wacken tv have the full show in this quality, those 2 songs are incluided on the wacken 2008 official dvd, the rest of the show comes from a live streaming (and in 2008 live streamings had low quality)

Personally I dont think annette deserves all the hate she gets, she isn't a bad singer, I just think that nightwish was the wrong band for her, their sound and her voice aren't compatible. The dark element works really well for her
I don't want to sound harsh but...her voice cracking on the chorus of Nemo is horrendous. She is so pitchy.
I love her studio work though!
The two studio albums with her are my favourite, but indeed she was really weak live.
She sounds great in the studio but live, she makes Nightwish sound like cover band.
@@ferrenberg The reason is simple, the 3 singers ability should be measured on the live performances, while the quality of the studio album depends heavily on Tuomas' level of ispiration in the moment the albums are conceived.
Tuomas happened to be in a great ispiration moment in the period Anette was the lead singer, so the Albums are great but that doesn't mean that Anette is autotomatically the greatest singer they've had. The singers's abilities are shown in the live performances. I Personally think their best singer is Floor, in the live performances. By the way I find that the albums with Anette are the best.
Tarja was also the lead singer in some great quality albums, but I find that those albums are way stronger in the instrumental side rather than the vocals. I find Tarja's vocals to be repetitive and, after two or three songs, boring. Floor uses SOME operatic parts but she doesn't always sings every part of every song in the exact same way like Tarja used to (putting that Falsettone on top of evrything)
@@marcofrassini9172 yeah yeah, I kind of agree with you in every way. I found out about Nightwish with their Century Child album and really liked it, but their albums with Annette are my favorite. Floor to me is the best female singer ever, but I used to be an After Forever fan and used to know her abilities way before she joined Nightwish. I wish she'd use more of her operatic voice more on Nightwish, though. Much like in the same way of the last AF album, in my opinion the best performance by a singer in symphonic metal.

And I really wonder that many discussions about the singer... and actually nobody seems to have listen to the whole video and noticed this really weird decision of either the band (actually I cant belive this) or the people who recorded or cut the video.

The only exception was in wacken and i saw all the songs who played there,six songs from DPP who was the first album with Annette,four songs from Once album and the other songs from oldest albums.
In my opinion of course, they wanted to put as much as songs to their list from new songs and more loving from Tarjia's era.
So she can singing the song 👍 i saw her in many lives to singing the last part, don't forget that the DPP is with Annette vocals and is a wonderful album indeed!!!

Having seen both Annette and Floor live, I actually prefer Annette's version of this and Amaranthe, both of which were written/adapted to suit her vocals as they were "her" songs. That said I cannot abide Annette singing GLS or a lot of Tarja's repertoire, Floor on the hand can cope with both styles and in a lot of cases improve on them.

I like so much the Anette interpretation of and how she gave it on this song "Poet and the Pendulum" with her unique style and pretty emotive, and Marko is a great singer leaving his mark too as well. But this video lacked the last part of the song, the most emotive sung for her.
