Finally a reactor that gives Avi and Kevin the attention they so deserve. To me they are the soul of this song, particularly Avi. He's so good that most people miss the fact he's the one filling in that empty musical space away from all the high note singing. The nuances he puts in sound just like a bass that you forget it's not an actual instrument. In the section where they're singing with the ring lights behind them notice that Avi has the difficult job of singing two notes that are quite apart in a very short time. I don't suppose that's very easy to do. Can I give you a recommendation from a different artist? Could you listen to La Fama by Rosalía feat. The Weekend please?
They made this for $400 in the bearded guy's closet, and nobody had ever seen/heard anything like that before, and it won them their first Grammy!!! I would check out their cover of "Gold", their original "Cracked", or any of their Evolution Of.... videos, such as The Evolution Of Ariana Grande! Enjoy!!
They won the Grammy for the _arrangement,_ which I think is an important distinction, here. Music arranging is a wildly under-estimated and distinct craft. They didn't win for their voices or performance (though I happen to think this is a _fabulous_ performance. Given how rarely they did so, I've also been lucky enough to see them sing it live.

@@scottperil905 it is not a "fact" that Matt is not as good as Avi, that is an opinion, Avi is an opera trained Basso Profondo, and Matt is just a normal bass, so it's really not fair to compare them as they aren't even the same kind of singers, Matt is fantastic filling all the bass lines and has the ability to nearly be a tenor and sing quite high on occasions for a bass, he also has a performance energy to him that makes it look like he's always just having a fun time while everyone else is seriously performing. The only real thing Avi has is a really rich, chocolatey tone and the ability to hit insanely low notes, and pentatonix never really made him hit those much anyway

So glad to see you! I was lucky enough to see your other video before it got blocked. Literally, I watched and went to comment and it was gone. Oh well. It was fab! And so was this. I think both Avi and Matt are wonderful. Avi has a fuller sound, more soulful. Matt has a lighter, brighter sound. Both sound so nice! PTX is amazing at composing around the members' strengths, so Matt slid in nicely with the arrangements and song choices.

Missed you! 💖 😊 I like both versions of the group. They've evolved so the original members have learned to perfect their craft and expand on their original skills exponentially in the last few years! I can't talk enough about how much Scott has improved his lower end in the bass range and how much Kirstin has improved everything across the board.. even things that didn't need improving, she simply upped the bar and stepped forward and took her place like she could of anytime she wanted! She has become a Power House! Mitch is working on his lower-end right now and I know I'm loving hearing him sing in that part of his range again. While you were gone he upped his high-end range and a kind of stuck him in the singing high-end for quite a while until he was pleading to be allowed to quit having to Belt high notes. Have you seen their cover of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from The Lion King? you have to check it out! And Matt has gotten over what almost sounded like a tiny bit of insecurity when he was covering songs that he had previously been the bass on. His low end is very solid now, and his solos are beautiful wherever they put him in his range. What's different is there not trying to be a forward bass and beatbox sound like they were in their early years. And that's why we don't hear that something bass is because they're not composing songs to have a thumping Bass. They're doing song format is covering a note that lays the foundation underneath with everybody else is doing and so people don't realize that Matt is really singing bass down there. I would like to hear them return to doing SOME music that really emphasizes the Crazy bass and beats .. (sounding like instruments) with the Trio's amazing vocals like they did in the past. They do an awful lot of coral type music now with all 5 members harmonizing and no beats. Having that once in a while is really special but having it all the time makes you miss the original stuff they came out with that made you go "Woah! I can't believe there were no instruments playing!" I guess what I'm saying is that I would like a more balanced mix of their original Style and the evolved style (that brings us a wall of sound with all five people singing and pulls your emotions in every direction) . And I would definitely like some songs with Matt's bass to be more forward instead of constantly providing a platform for them to build on. He has the ability but we don't get to hear it and I would like to hear some thumping beats again. They had a couple on their home again album they released while in lockdown that had some good bass and beats going with the amazing vocals! They're actually my favorites on the album because everything was so sad I didn't want to hear sad songs or music I wanted something to make me feel happy . but everybody seems to like the numbers that were sad or harmonic all the way through . all they did was made me cry because they pull the emotions out of you and I was already crying enough as it was . But they sound absolutely amazing no matter what they do and there's one song from that album that still needs a video and Mitch said they were waiting until they could make it when they were all together because it's more complicated cover. That track would be named "Cologne". But it was crazy that they did an album and some singles that aren't on that album when they weren't even together. Each person recorded their part in their own home without being able to hear what anybody else had done. they had to do their own lighting and set construction and then they just sang into their iPhones and set the recordings to their editor for mixing and it's amazing what they did! Mitch was the only member that had no help whatsoever as he's the only one that lives totally alone and he did a fabulous job! their new cover of "Amazing Grace" that was just released two days ago makes me cry every time I hear it because it's so insanely beautiful. OMG, Hey stranger, glad to see you back! For a second I thought it was an old video I already watched from the past. PTX signed with a new label and they have been tripping with the copyright blocks. Many reactors have figured out ways around it by pausing more often or making the video transparent or having their channel logo show up in front of the video or making the video their background behind them and the reactor is pretty much blocking some of it, etc. I'm pissed I didn't catch your reaction to Mad World before it got pulled. PTX just dropped a gorgeous cover of Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) from their upcoming Christmas album dropping on 11/13 I think. They have another EP dropping of originals in February 2021. Anywho, glad to see you back, you was/are definitely one of my favorite reactors. 😊 To me, PTX with Avi and PTX with Matt are just two different vibes. I miss Avi, but I enjoy Matt, he is such a happy person and added that vibe to the group after Avi left. One difference I have noticed is that Matt sings more than Avi did I feel in terms of solo parts such as in Sound of Silence, Mad World and he was the solo lead in the How The Grinch Stole Christmas (it's never too early to check out their Christmas stuff, hint, hint 😊) or in Amazing Grace they just dropped a few days ago. Avi is one of a kind, his bass is just crazy, but Matt although doesn't go as low as Avi has a decent range that blends so well with the rest of them on so many of their newer songs. I agree, it is very rare to lose a band member and to gain another that is just as talented in their own right and is a net plus for the band. They have changed so much and Kirstin is just so much more confident and is showcased more lately and I'm here for all of it. They genuinely seem so happy and I'm just happy for them and their success as someone that has been following them since their debut on the Sing Off. 😊

When I think about comparing the two "versions" of PTX, I put "La La Latch" next to "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" and come up with the same thought you did - they're both awesome, just different. And yeah, I know losing Avi had to break the hearts of the other members, but I think incorporating Matt forced them to grow in new ways, which is positive, even if it's painful.

I think both the original group and the new lineup have their strengths, but its not a fair comparison. PTX have been incredibly talented from the beginning and original lineup was putting out a really unique sound at the same time. They managed to get a Grammy for one of their first original arrangements right after winning the Sing Off! But the new lineup didn't just gain a new member and unique strength in Matt. They have been honing their craft for almost 10 years at this point! Scott would not have been able to back up or support Matt in the bass notes in the beginning. Kirstie would not be singing as strongly as she is now. And Mitch wouldn't be the power counter tenor. (Edited to add: Kevin has always been phenomenal!! He just got even more confident and crafty haha!) They have been working their asses off and I believe they are hitting their stride. They're pumping out not just amazing but STELLAR covers and now releasing their first original album in years!

I can't talk enough about how much Scott has improved his lower end in the bass range and how much Kirstin has improved everything across the board.. even things that didn't need improving, she simply upped the bar and stepped forward and took her place like she could of anytime she wanted! She has become a Power House! Mitch is working on his lower-end right now and I know I'm loving hearing him sing in that part of his range again. While you were gone he upped his high-end range and a kind of stuck him in the singing high-end for quite a while until he was pleading to be allowed to quit having to Belt high notes. Have you seen their cover of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from The Lion King? you have to check it out!
And Matt has gotten over what almost sounded like a tiny bit of insecurity when he was covering songs that he had previously been the bass on. His low end is very solid now, and his solos are beautiful wherever they put him in his range. What's different is there not trying to be a forward bass and beatbox sound like they were in their early years. And that's why we don't hear that something bass is because they're not composing songs to have a thumping Bass. They're doing song format is covering a note that lays the foundation underneath with everybody else is doing and so people don't realize that Matt is really singing bass down there. I would like to hear them return to doing SOME music that really emphasizes the Crazy bass and beats .. (sounding like instruments) with the Trio's amazing vocals like they did in the past. They do an awful lot of coral type music now with all 5 members harmonizing and no beats. Having that once in a while is really special but having it all the time makes you miss the original stuff they came out with that made you go "Woah! I can't believe there were no instruments playing!" I guess what I'm saying is that I would like a more balanced mix of their original Style and the evolved style (that brings us a wall of sound with all five people singing and pulls your emotions in every direction) . And I would definitely like some songs with Matt's bass to be more forward instead of constantly providing a platform for them to build on. He has the ability but we don't get to hear it and I would like to hear some thumping beats again. They had a couple on their home again album they released while in lockdown that had some good bass and beats going with the amazing vocals! They're actually my favorites on the album because everything was so sad I didn't want to hear sad songs or music I wanted something to make me feel happy . but everybody seems to like the numbers that were sad or harmonic all the way through . all they did was made me cry because they pull the emotions out of you and I was already crying enough as it was . But they sound absolutely amazing no matter what they do and there's one song from that album that still needs a video and Mitch said they were waiting until they could make it when they were all together because it's more complicated cover. That track would be named "Cologne". But it was crazy that they did an album and some singles that aren't on that album when they weren't even together. Each person recorded their part in their own home without being able to hear what anybody else had done. they had to do their own lighting and set construction and then they just sang into their iPhones and set the recordings to their editor for mixing and it's amazing what they did! Mitch was the only member that had no help whatsoever as he's the only one that lives totally alone and he did a fabulous job!
their new cover of "Amazing Grace" that was just released two days ago makes me cry every time I hear it because it's so insanely beautiful. You should react to that one!

Yeah, there's a reason this video got a Grammy. And people WERE talking about this, when it came out. That was nearly 8 years ago though. ;)
OMG, Hey stranger, glad to see you back! For a second I thought it was an old video I already watched from the past. PTX signed with a new label and they have been tripping with the copyright blocks. Many reactors have figured out ways around it by pausing more often or making the video transparent or having their channel logo show up in front of the video or making the video their background behind them and the reactor is pretty much blocking some of it, etc. I'm pissed I didn't catch your reaction to Mad World before it got pulled. PTX just dropped a gorgeous cover of Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) from their upcoming Christmas album dropping on 11/13 I think. They have another EP dropping of originals in February 2021. Anywho, glad to see you back, you was/are definitely one of my favorite reactors. 😊
To me, PTX with Avi and PTX with Matt are just two different vibes. I miss Avi, but I enjoy Matt, he is such a happy person and added that vibe to the group after Avi left. One difference I have noticed is that Matt sings more than Avi did I feel in terms of solo parts such as in Sound of Silence, Mad World and he was the solo lead in the How The Grinch Stole Christmas (it's never too early to check out their Christmas stuff, hint, hint 😊) or in Amazing Grace they just dropped a few days ago. Avi is one of a kind, his bass is just crazy, but Matt although doesn't go as low as Avi has a decent range that blends so well with the rest of them on so many of their newer songs. I agree, it is very rare to lose a band member and to gain another that is just as talented in their own right and is a net plus for the band. They have changed so much and Kirstin is just so much more confident and is showcased more lately and I'm here for all of it. They genuinely seem so happy and I'm just happy for them and their success as someone that has been following them since their debut on the Sing Off. 😊

When I think about comparing the two "versions" of PTX, I put "La La Latch" next to "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" and come up with the same thought you did - they're both awesome, just different. And yeah, I know losing Avi had to break the hearts of the other members, but I think incorporating Matt forced them to grow in new ways, which is positive, even if it's painful.
They got a couple of Grammy's for this. Genius

I think both the original group and the new lineup have their strengths, but its not a fair comparison. PTX have been incredibly talented from the beginning and original lineup was putting out a really unique sound at the same time. They managed to get a Grammy for one of their first original arrangements right after winning the Sing Off!
But the new lineup didn't just gain a new member and unique strength in Matt. They have been honing their craft for almost 10 years at this point! Scott would not have been able to back up or support Matt in the bass notes in the beginning. Kirstie would not be singing as strongly as she is now. And Mitch wouldn't be the power counter tenor. (Edited to add: Kevin has always been phenomenal!! He just got even more confident and crafty haha!)
They have been working their asses off and I believe they are hitting their stride. They're pumping out not just amazing but STELLAR covers and now releasing their first original album in years!
