Wonderful to capture not only the scenery but the emotion. A lot of people only show the “good” parts and never really show what it takes. Thank you for sharing
What an empowering video❤. As I sit here in the spring sun shining on me on the couch, I am recalling my younger adventures in hiking. I remember the exhaustion and the stomach churning push to make it to the next pass and the knee throbbing ache of the downhill that inevitably follows. The worst was when I hiked the Wind River with my 8month old son on my back…I made it, he is now 52 🤗. I loved it.
Tina is such a badass! 90% of the hiking and some of the backpacking I have done in my life, I did alone. More than once, I had a fearful freaked out cry on the trail. Tina can do far more than I could when I was in the best shape of my life, when I was 20. You rule, Tina.
My partner and I have been watching this channel for about 6 months now and wow was this a special episode. Tina kicks ass! Also want to wish you a speedy recovery Jerry!
Tina is an "effin'" Rockstar! BIG hike for first solo! Who cares if she didn't complete that "juggernaut," that was indeed a serious back-country accomplishment! She did a great job with the camera as well...no easy task when you're hurting. Your editing and tracks are just remarkable. What a team you guys make! Let's get you healed up so we can look forward to seeing you hike this together.
She did awesome on the hike AND the filming. The editing was easy given the footage. We'll be back out really soon. Wish I could have done this one with her....Always next year.
Amazing! Amazing! Laughed and teared up with you, Tina. Thanks so much for the honest and vulnerable account of your adventure. As my wife doesn't accompany me on my trips I relate to what Tina says about sharing the experience with another. Photos and video never capture the grandeur and spatial relationships of the landscape, and something is lost when trying to describe it. Having someone with you to share it with seems to make it more special. Plus, having someone to share the "chores" with helps with motivation to get moving. That being said, the views Tina captured were fantastic! Congratulations on a successful trek! You braved a lot of challenges. Also, great job editing this piece, Jerry. I've worked in television and film for 50 years and I know how much work and creativity it takes. Great attention to detail, mood and story telling.
Really appreciate this comment. Tina did so well both filming and making 3 passes with what turned out to be altitude sickness. I have no idea how she even did it feeling like she did.
@@JerryArizona She's magical! Like Snow White. The squirrel bomb should have proved that! Seriously, I have been binging your videos for the past couple weeks and this journey with Tina was amazing. You guys rock. I love your energy, your adventurous spirit and your obvious love. Happy Trails!
I’ve been watching Jerry & Tina for the past 1 1/2 yr and love their videos. This video was very real. Tina you are a courageous, strong, beautiful woman. Please don’t quit making videos.
This one was tough. Didn't realize at the time, but she was suffering from altitude sickness. It's a really good thing she bailed. Went back and completed the loop (she got altitude sickness and had to bail again). Having done it, I have no idea how she got over those passes feeling like she did.
...After watching this and reading the comments ,, it's hard to say what has not been said ,, except you have earned SO much RESPECT from those that have ever been on trail ... Even as an experienced backpacker,, your first solo adventure is a monument,, you have learned the how-to ,, you have worked with the gear ,, your body is in shape to let the experience begin ,, then once you start ,, it becomes a mental game .. .. I began hiking the Rockies almost 55 years ago ,, and love to hear the stories about the accomplishments of others FIRSTS ,, First hike,, first fish ,,first anything ....there's always the unknown ahead... .. You certainly have my respect as a mountain adventurer and as I see from your experiences on video's,, an awesome outdoors woman ... ..... Stay Safe and God Bless ..... P.S. -- Jerry ,, You are a Very Lucky Man ...
That was an AMAZING video! Tina you are bonafide badsss and such an incredible inspiration! You did more on that trip then most people could ever dream of in a lifetime. Thanks for being so real and showing your trials and tribulations...I was definitely tearing up watching! As always the edits were impeccable and the music choices and transitions were beautiful! I love sharing your videos with others. If you 2 ever teach a class on hiking, camping, backpacking and video editing I would love to take them all!! Keep up the great work and hopefully Jerry heals up soon! You guys rock!!
Thanks! I kept telling her "just film it, and I'll figure it out during the edit" but she did so well...The video clips just kind of led the way for me. Oh yeah, and she carried that 40+ lb pack up three 12,000 foot passes solo, so there's that. I'm healing up well and we'll be back out next weekend. With lighter packs and lower altitude, for sure.
I've watched mostly every video you guys put out, and I love them for the views and humor along the way. But, seeing this side of Tina really makes more of a personal connection! And I for one, have never been more proud of someone I don't personally know. Congrats Tina. Great job
Thank you! She did so well, especially doing it a) solo and b) with altitude sickness. Having done it now, I have no idea how she made it as far as she did feeling that way.
I really appreciate your channel. Some youtubers are so busy thinking they're all that ,when Tina shows the reality that is backpacking and heavy pack with altitude sickness! The public need the reality of doing these type of trips and that they need to take them more seriously than they do. Tina was fantastic for attempting this trip solo cause it does take courage to get out there and love the outdoors, with the reality of it's challenges and the need to prepare both physically and logistically for these trips
Tina and Jerry - this is wonderful, what an experience for both of you and thank you for sharing! Tina, you did a fantastic job. It was touching to see you wanting Jerry to be there with you to share the experience.
I loved this video, and it reminded me of many of my own personal alone hikes. Often, I come back and tell everyone about all the amazing things, but the reality is all of the tribulations that I had to overcome to get there. Tina, if you ever need someone to hike with/cry with, let me know 😀.
Tina did great. We learned later that she had altitude sickness, so bailing was definitely the right decision. I went back about a year later and did the loop. I have no idea how she did as much as she did feeling that sick.
I just discovered your channel a couple weeks ago and I've been watching all your old videos and this is my favorite one. She is so inspiring. I have never been brave enough to solo backpack. I really appreciate her vulnerability, I love the way she talks to you through the camera and all her triumph and set backs really resonated throughout. Great video.
Way to go, Tina; you rock! So many highs and lows in one trip... we appreciate that you showed it all. And congrats on going it alone for the first time! Jerry... nice that you included the "scenes from home." It must have been so hard being incapacitated at home, knowing that your honey was struggling.
Thanks. She did great. Finally figured out she had altitude sickness so it’s good she bailed. No idea how she made three passes feeling that bad. It was really stressful not hearing from her. Almost hopped in the car and headed to Colorado….
Just found this channel while looking up hikes at Zion, we just went there recently and it was incredible! Loved this video so much. What a truly incredible person Tina is! I don’t think I could of done this in fact I know I couldn’t, what an amazing experience and a truly incredible person! Thank you for taking us along this journey Tina! You are awesome!!!
Glad you liked the video and that you got to check out Zion. And Tina did awesome on this trip. No idea how she made it as far as she did being as sick as she was (altitude sickness we've come to learn).

Great Job Tina! Solo hiking is another animal. Way to go. If you ever wanna ladies backpacking trip me and a few of my. Regular hiking ladies love the occasional ladies trip.
She did incredible. Knowing now that she was suffering from acute mountain sickness and having done it myself, I have no idea how she made it as far as she did.

A nice video Tina. Sorry you took ill. Both of you need to prepare for such things out on the trail. Take along something to settle your stomach when needed. When in or near a town, order a BLT at an eating place. I have found it helps settle your stomach, no matter what the problem is. I like a BLT in any case. But it has never failed to solve a stomach problem and get some needed food in me. Too, I know it was your first hike alone, but you seemed unsure of yourself. Hey! You are the one in charge in such cases. Stay positive, you can do it. Quit keeping track of how much more there is ahead of you. Just enjoy where you are and push on. Try to go farther each day than you planned. That way towards the end you will have less distance to do when you are warn out. I wish you both Happy Trails! .
Dang it Jerry! Around that 19 minute mark I got some dust in my eyes! Tina you absolutely kicked ass! Only thing this video is missing was Jerry picking Tina up for the Shuttle. Love it guys!
Right? Neither of us can watch that part without a similar dust problem. And if I hadn't found the shuttle, Plan B was to drive to Aspen and hike up to meet her.
This was a rough one. I've gone back and done it and we've since realized she had altitude sickness. I have no idea how she did what she did feeling like that. She is a rock star, for sure.
Oh so beautiful! I rooted you in and cried with you too. I chuckled when you said you were going to eat a lot of food! What an adventure- you are bad ass! I really struggle with anxiety on solo hikes and in my younger years would hike anywhere or do anything alone. Not now. You are inspiring! Well done!
Come to find out, she had altitude sickness. Amazing that she managed 3 passes. I was able to go back and complete the loop earlier this year though. It's a beautiful hike.
Yeah, luckily it's all healed up. Went back and finished this trail a while back. Turns out Tina had altitude sickness (and got it again on the next attempt.) Now that I've done the whole thing I have no idea how she made it as far as she did feeling that sick and with that much weight. Still, it's a beautiful trail.
WOW, Your"e one tough young lady going solo in that terrain . I"m impressed with your will to keep going and your video footage. Just amazing mountain footage. i was glued to the screen to see how far you were going to make it. I was very impressed . Just a great Video with fantastic mountain scenes and emotions of a very tuff hike. 10 thumbs up.
I started to watch the July 2021 video that suggested I watch this first (haven’t watched the 2021 vid yet). Just need to say Congratulations for accomplishing as much as you did! I hope after some time has passed now that you are able to feel what an amazing accomplishment this was! 👏👏👏
She did great. Figured out after the fact that she had acute mountain sickness - we don't deal with much elevation here in Arizona. Having now done it myself, I can't believe she made it as far as she did feeling that sick.
I loved this video! I loved the beautiful scenery, and really mostly enjoyed seeing your fortitude as well as honesty as you faced those challenges. I'm in my late 50's, have disabilities, and the most "hiking" I do is walking in the woods for a half an hour. Even if healthy, it would be a challenge for most women to do what you did. Thank you for sharing that adventure with us. Many blessings to you and Jerry.
Thank you! We went back last summer....that's a whole other story. But now that I have had the opportunity to give 4 Pass Loop a try, I respect Tina's effort even more; she did those three passes with altitude sickness, and it's hard enough if you feel fine.
great video Tina. Thats how you find out how much is too much. You managed your situation, did what you had to do, got yourself out of a situation you didn't want to be in. Kudos. And always enjoy seeing you on the trail in these videos. Thanks for sharing... A video like this is 100 times more valuable to learning than one where everything goes fine and we all look at the pretty scenery.
Omg! You go girl!! YOU BRAVE! My husband and I love to hike. But we aren’t as advanced as you and Jerry. Loved your true self and sharing your emotions.... Very proud of you!
I love this video, because it is so real. Tina going out of her comfort zone, and facing some fears, and some tough conditions, alone. She did great, considering she was not feeling well, and made good decisions to change the plan. Sorry to hear Jerry was injured. But all of this is what life is about. What defines us is how we handle adversity. Life knocks everyone down at some point. Those are the opportunities to grow, and develop character. Tina, you did a good job filming, and you did a great job toughing it out on the trail.
@@JerryArizona was it altitude sickness? You guys seem to hike and backpack, enough that you should be able to do this. Is it the climb with the weight of a loaded pack?
@@arizjones its the elevation gain that makes me nervous. I struggle with it. I think Tina got altitude sickness too. My achilles eventually healed...mostly. It's a long process because apparently tendons don't get much blood flow which helps with healing.
@@JerryArizona Well, I hope you recover fully. As for the elevation gain thing, it is hard, and maybe it is just not for everyone. I never gave it much thought, I think because I was a distance runner in high school, so I was used to pushing myself to limits of pain and endurance. In fact I kind of like it in a sick sort of sadistic way. Anyway, I really do enjoy your videos, and wish you well. And living in Arizona, I have been to many of the places you have gone to, and sometimes you show me a place I have not seen. Thanks.
I've lived in Colorado since 1950, sending you my respect, enjoyed the "tense" video, you pushed yourself to your limit and made it out safe...well done...enjoyed tracking your progress on Google Earth.
That was awesome young lady. I enjoyed your trip. I just spent 4 days in the Grand Canyon at age 76. I wish I had started this hiking at your age. Great job.
Wow! We're too chicken to try the Grand Canyon....well, we were supposed to this year, but you know...some stuff happened and Phantom Ranch was closed when we were supposed to be there.
I've gone back and completed the loop since this video. We finally figured out she had altitude sickness and it was the right thing to do to bail. Having done the loop, I have no idea how she did as well as she did given how bad she was feeling.
Great job Tina. The altitude is very high there. I just love all of your videos. Both of you are so chill and conversational. Loved the emotion. I have hiked the Maroon Bells loop in part. I know the area well having lived in Aspen for 2 years and worked on Aspen Highlands mountain. I road cycle CO mountain passes a lot most summers. Jerry, get well soon.
So proud of you Tina! I cried with you looking at such beautiful view which in person must of been even more powerful to see. What an accomplishment this is. You're an inspiration for me. Hoping to add backpacking to my list next year. Jerry hope you're resting up and feeling better. Can't wait to see you both out on trails again. Thank you for sharing your trips with us. Love the scenery and energy.
You are awesome Tina! I am so happy that you were able to push through those tough days and emotions. 3 outta 4 passes is a great accomplishment. As Jerry said, that is 3 times what he got done last year. I know Aspen is pricey, but $90 in pizza and wine, for one?!! :) Hang in there Jerry and take it slow on the Achilles rehab because those are serious. Safe travels.
Thank you so much! And the bottle of wine was $32, but well worth it. I also like to leave a healthy tip, especially in these tough times for the restaurant industry.
Awesome! I’m inspired. I’m certain my father would be right alongside me in spirit. And totally tickled! I have to choose a time to hike throughout Devil’s Chasm with his ashes to be put there as he did his father. I had tears and a lump in my throat watching this video.
@@JerryArizona indeed. My dad called it Malicious Gap. Had you ever heard that name? What time of the year would you guys recommend for maximum scenic glory and comfortable weather conditions, etc..?
Wow! Tina you are one amazing lady!!! Bravo on your incredible accomplishment! Those killer mountains are beyond beautiful!!! I was there this past June, of course I did not have the gust like you, but did enjoyed throughly with all the awesome surroundings by Maroon Bells Lake. A big fan of You & Jerry from upstate NY, original from Vietnam.
Awesome video Tina! That looks like a tough backpack, well done. Sorry about the injury Jerry. I had major spinal surgery last year. Your channel helped me get my outdoor adventure fix while recovering. You'll have some ups & downs when you start to get active again so don't get discouraged. The main thing is listen to your body & give it time to heal. I had to learn that lesson the hard way. Thanks for all the great videos.
Glad you could live vicariously through us. Been through PT more than once. It works, and it also sucks. Hopefully you're back out there, or soon will be.
I die every time I go to the bottom of the grand canyon due to bad vertigo. I sleep it off and continue. It's not easy and I'm always with friends. I've been alone an hour on an exposed area and feel distressed with nobody around. I'd say you did fantastic and have a great story to tell.
@@JerryArizona Oh yeah, I hadn't even considered you low landers. That is definitely tough. You need at least 3-4 days to acclimate appropriately. Even greater job then!
Funny that neither of us realized it was altitude sickness. So glad she bailed when she did. Went back a year or so later and now having done it I have no idea how she made three passes solo feeling the way she did.
She did great. Come to find out, it was altitude sickness. Really good she got out where she did. I went back and did it last year and have no idea how she got as far as she did being that sick. It was tough enough when I was healthy.

Right? Neither of us can watch that part without a similar dust problem. And if I hadn't found the shuttle, Plan B was to drive to Aspen and hike up to meet her.
Awesome and well done! Way to keep pushing.
Nice squirrel (Chipmunk?) Photo bomb at 10:40! :) Thanks for taking us along Tina! :) That's a helluva hike.
The photo bomb killed me. And Tina definitely kicked ass.
Great video, incredible hike Tina!!! Hope your current blood pressure issue has been resolved. The Best hike is one you don't die on! 😳
Thank you. She's doing great. The BP seems to have resolved itself.
Well done Tina👏👍
One word: Brave!
Lot of respect.
Tina did so well on this trip. I have no idea how she made it that far in that condition.
I cried right there with her. Tina is an absolute rock star!
This was a rough one. I've gone back and done it and we've since realized she had altitude sickness. I have no idea how she did what she did feeling like that. She is a rock star, for sure.
@@JerryArizona Yeah, that is amazing!
Another great adventure and video! I was just up at Maroon Bells last week, such a beautiful area!
Kudos Tina! You’re a badass!
She is. How she got that far as sick as she was, I have no idea.
That a girl! A beautiful hike and a nice mix of memories.
So cool.
Just wonderful and impressive
Tina did amazing. Went back last summer and completed the loop. I have no idea how she got 3 passes with altitude sickness....
Well done!
Tina, girl I was crying with you! Amazing job and amazing views!
What a beautiful hike.....sad you were so tormented.....I can see why you were there.....A++ Thanks...
Come to find out, she had altitude sickness. Amazing that she managed 3 passes. I was able to go back and complete the loop earlier this year though. It's a beautiful hike.
What an adventure! You are one strong woman! Huge hugs from AZ. Keep on inspiring.
I see now this was a couple years ago. Glad the achilles has healed, and both are trail wiser and tougher. Hike on.
Just amazing mountain footage. i was glued to the screen
to see how far you were going to make it. I was very impressed . Just a great Video with fantastic mountain scenes and emotions of a very tuff hike. 10 thumbs up.
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
Right? Not just first solo hike, but also her first time as the videographer. She made my job editing pretty easy.
Tina you’re a BADASS!
She did awesome. I won't lie. I'm a little nervous to try this again. (I didn't even make one pass when we went the first time.)
@@JerryArizona was it altitude sickness? You guys seem to hike and backpack, enough that you should be able to do this. Is it the climb with the weight of a loaded pack?
@@JerryArizona So how is the archillies?
Thanks.
You go girl! 💪
You should be soooo proud of yourself! I think you are amazing.
I really appreciate that! One day we’ll conquer that beast!
How funny was the squirel making a cameo appearance in camp.
I've lived in Colorado since 1950, sending you my respect, enjoyed the "tense" video, you pushed yourself to your limit and made it out safe...well done...enjoyed tracking your progress on Google Earth.
We are definitely heading back next year to finish this one. Absolutely love Colorado.
Wow, way to go!!! Pushing past your mental limit is awesome. What a view from that pass.
Brave wife, Jerry!. I know you are so proud of her.
I am. She did great. (We figured out after the fact that she had altitude sickness.)
Woohoo! You’re amazing! You did great!🙇 👏 👏👏 😊
OMG this video is so inspiring!! She is amazing, so brave 🥹👏
Thank you! I'm pretty much recovered. We're already planning to go back and finally (hopefully) finish this thing. It's so beautiful up there.
I just LOVED this video! Way to go, Tina! You're amazing!
Thanks for a great video. It has been a lot years since I was on that trsil. THZNKS.
Absolutely love backpacking. Go for it! Start small and work up from there. Any questions, let me know.
@@JerryArizona thanks
You are awesome Tina! I am so happy that you were able to push through those tough days and emotions. 3 outta 4 passes is a great accomplishment. As Jerry said, that is 3 times what he got done last year. I know Aspen is pricey, but $90 in pizza and wine, for one?!! :) Hang in there Jerry and take it slow on the Achilles rehab because those are serious. Safe travels.
Thank you so much! And the bottle of wine was $32, but well worth it. I also like to leave a healthy tip, especially in these tough times for the restaurant industry.
Totally awesome... what a great job you did !!! Loved this !! Congrats!!!
Tough lady. (And tough husband) Great job. That is a difficult loop even with hiking buddies. Your video and editing is to be commended.
Great job!!! Beautiful trail.
Awesome! I’m inspired. I’m certain my father would be right alongside me in spirit. And totally tickled! I have to choose a time to hike throughout Devil’s Chasm with his ashes to be put there as he did his father. I had tears and a lump in my throat watching this video.
Devil's Chasm is an absolutely beautiful place to rest.....
Lovely Video! Thank you for posting. Can't wait to see more 👍
Great!
Lol. "I just want to be done." Tina, we love you.
What an amazing hike! You are such Superwoman!
I die every time I go to the bottom of the grand canyon due to bad vertigo. I sleep it off and continue. It's not easy and I'm always with friends. I've been alone an hour on an exposed area and feel distressed with nobody around. I'd say you did fantastic and have a great story to tell.
Tina did amazing. Especially for a first solo trip...with altitude sickness.
@@JerryArizona Oh yeah, I hadn't even considered you low landers. That is definitely tough. You need at least 3-4 days to acclimate appropriately. Even greater job then!
I love that jerry says it’s not as easy as it looks, it doesn’t look easy...
Great video and channel, I loved listening to the mental aspect that can play into our psyche, way to go Tina.
One tough chickie..mad admiration. I lived in Colorado 12 years and that altitude thing will take you down.
Funny that neither of us realized it was altitude sickness. So glad she bailed when she did. Went back a year or so later and now having done it I have no idea how she made three passes solo feeling the way she did.
You did a great job......be proud of what you have done....
She did great. Come to find out, it was altitude sickness. Really good she got out where she did. I went back and did it last year and have no idea how she got as far as she did being that sick. It was tough enough when I was healthy.
Amazing video! Your strength and courage are 2nd to none! Be proud.
She did incredible. Hopefully we will both be back here soon and finally tackle this beast.
