    Irvin was one of the most productive WRs of his time despite being stuck on a run first team. Interestingly, Irvin won the receiving title in 1991 with 1523 yards while Emmitt Smith won the rushing title that same year with 1563 yards. Then, in 1995, Irvin put up his best year with 1603 yards, (still a Cowboys single season record for receiving yards.), 10 touchdowns, and 11 100 yard games in the SAME season in which Emmitt Smith put his career highs of 1773 yards and 25 touchdowns. Talking about being productive despite having to share the ball. Now, Irvin only had 1 season of double digit touchdowns with a career high off only 10 with a career total of 65. BUT you have to understand that Irvin's touchdown stats were deflated by the fact the 1990s Cowboys always ran the ball in goal to go situations. If it was any down and goal, they were feeding Emmitt. I would guess, and this video backs this up, that most of Irvin's touchdowns went for at least 11 yards with many of them long ones because once they got to the 10, they were running. But what REALLY puts in perspective how productive Irvin was is the fact that his 74.9 receiving yards per game are the highest receiving yards per game for any player whose career ended before 2000.

      100% FACTUAL!!!! That's what those fantasy football stat geeks who look at Michael Irvin's career statistics of 750 receptions for 11,000+ yards & 65 receiving touchdowns without putting them in proper context based upon the era & offensive system that he played in compared to his pro-bowl, All-Pro, & Hall of Fame wide receiver contemporaries such as Jerry Rice, Sterling Sharpe, Andre "Bad Moon" Rison, Art "The Quiet Assassin" Monk, Gary Clark, Henry Ellard, Cris Carter, Andre Reed, Tim Brown, Herman Moore, "The Reverend" Isaac Bruce, Jimmy Smith, Keenan McCardell, Anthony Miller, Rod Smith, Terrance Mathis, & Rob Moore as well as the wide receivers who've played these past 20 years since he retired in this watered down wide open pass happy era NFL football such as Randy "Superfreak" Moss, Terrell "Team Obliterator" Owens, "Big Game" Torry Holt, Marvin (He allegedly caught a body) Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith Sr., Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, Andre Johnson, Calvin "Megatron" Johnson, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, A.J. Green, & DeAndre Hopkins. Very well stated on your behalf sir. #SALUTE

      @cowboyz2k3 3 года назад +5

      Great comments by you both. All factual....I still have the newspaper boxscores of Michael's 11- 100yd receiving games from 1995, which i believe is still a record unless Calvin Johnson broke it but I thought he just tied it. Can't remember. But I'll always remember Irvin's catch in 95 on Thanksgiving Day vs Chiefs and his big time catches in postseason. Irvin and Aikman had unbelievable chemistry when it mattered in playoffs. As good as Montana to Rice. Compliments don't get any better than that. Miss them days severely but I'm glad I got to witness them. Awesome times in Dallas Cowboys Football History......

It’s right before halftime and he catches a pass over the middle , I mean he gets crushed by two defenders and gets spun like a Helicopter propeller. The fact that Troy threw it knowing Michael would get crushed showed the confidence Troy had in him . What was truly amazing was Michael going over the middle and catching it knowing he was going to get crushed .

    I Find It Ironic that All Of These Aren't Thrown By Troy Aikman,
    But ThatMeans He's Such a Great Wr that He Doesn't Need a All Pro Qb like Aikman

      Sometimes he performed better without Troy. He was a saving grace for Peete, Wilson, Garret. When the run game fails, send it to 88.

    As a New Yorker and a New York Football Giants fan , my top 12 football people of all time are, in this order : 1) Tie between Coach Bill Parcells and Coach Bill Bellichick 2) Tom Brady (respect for the GOAT) 3) Michael Irvin 4) Tie between John Elway and Drew Brees 5) Tie between Eli and Peyton Manning 6) Coach Mike Tomlin 7) Tie between Joe Montana and Ben Roethlisberger, 8) Coach Jimmy Johnson 9) Troy Aikman 10) Jerry Rice 11)Lawrence Taylor 12) Tie between Barry Sanders and Keyshawn Johnson (I was never a Jets fan but I loved Key's swagger). My favorite team owner is undoubtedly Jerry Jones ,the ultimate master of the game. I wish I had space for greats like O.J. Simpson,Thurman Thomas, Steve Young, Boomer Esiason,Jerome Bettis,Terrell Owens, Ochocinco, Bruce Smith of the Buffalo Bills, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders ,Dan Marino,etc...Just my opinion..

    I look at the size of the shoulder pads and just wonder how much better these guys would do with those small ass shoulder pads used today.... No way you can tell me these didn't hinder their mobility. I remember the first time running in pads and it's a different thing.
    Same with the QB's.

      Rice, Owens, Moss, Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson just off the top of my head were better than Irvin. He was a great receiver but greatest of all time? ummm no....
