Another useful video, thanks a lot. But, tbh I prefer to use steam cleaner only on wheels, front grills and trims that you can’t reach. In my opinion, Clay works better than steam on painted metal surfaces. Cheers
Hi Ahmet, thanks for your comment! I've seen a few people mentioning using steam on wheels but I haven't tried it yet. Believe it or not, I've never tried clay barring either but I've heard it gives great results on lifting dirt etc from the surface! cheers, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide Hi Phil, I’ve tried clay bar to lift the dirt/grime up, it worked very well. Strongly recommend to anyone. But I’m not sure whether clay bar is better than clay mitt/glove or not. Cheers
Hi, the steam took longer than a normal clean but in my option gave a deeper clean and lifted more dirt. Hard to say exactly how much better, maybe only 20%? Would be useful for preventing dirt from getting ingrained or as one of the cleaning steps if you plan to buff the car with compounds.
Would like to see the steamer used in conjunction with a mild clay bar used on new paint sometime if possible. :) My guess is if the car were clayed prior to the steamer, the steamer might have been more effective. Thanks for this. I didn't think a steamer was safe to use with a car exterior because I thought the heat might mar or melt the clearcoat.
That's a good point, I probably should have tested that as well as contact wash vs steam. Next time I do it I'll check to see if I can see any difference 👍
I have ordered a steam cleaner, currently waiting on it in the mail. Id considered using it to clean my car's exterior, since I also have sap. Thanks for the video, and also for diving deeper into it in the comments! I'll definitely be using the steam cleaner for the exterior too! Did you take extra precautions on the plastic bits?
No, I wasn't careful around the plastics, that's actually a really good point! Next time I use it, I'll take particular note but I haven't noticed any damage to the plastics, so hopefully the steam is ok with it. I haven't used mine for interior work yet and I think that is where they are most commonly used, so will have to give it a try!
Hi, steam cleaning gives a deeper clean of the paint and works really well if for example you also plan to clay bar the paint. However snow foam pre wash and or washing the car first gets the majority of the dirt and grit off. Ideally you would rinse off your car, snow foam pre wash (these are both touchless cleaning methods), then wash the car using the two bucket method, clay bar it, buff / paint correction if required and then finally wax and seal the paint. I know this sounds a lot but some people are really into this! Cheers, Phil
Using steam you can work inside the garage, no need for foam just presoak the car with prewash and do the steam routine. Heat will make the prewash even more affective and use a borderless microfiber to not collect dust in the borders
I don't use mine a lot, maybe a dozen times since this vid was made? Always been happy with it! It was relatively new out when I bought it but I see it has mixed reviews. I'll be honest, if I was buying right now, there is a Karcher unit for about £15 more (I think it is on sale?) that has 2000 ratings and gets 4.5 stars, so seems to be the safer bet... amzn.to/4876hjV Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil
@@Davegt535 You sound a lot like me LOL! I always want to spend wisely and will research things to death! Sometimes there isn't a wrong answer, I think both units are good. I don’t know for 100% as I have never tried it but PPF is a thermoplastic, meaning it becomes very soft and pliable when heated. I suspect that the steam wouldn’t be the best thing for it! I would be more likely to try snow foam if I wanted to do a deep clean on it! If youre still using a foam cannon and pressure washer the steam cleaner is useless.. just keep using the soap and hand wash... why bring out another machine
You don't really get the same flow rate with the steam as you would with a pressure washer. Since you are lifting the dirt with steam and then wiping, it's best if the car is as clean as you can get it with normal washing before your start, so you are just lifting out the ingrained dirt. Have you tested that side after a wash

Not that I’ve found. Steam cleaning paint is becoming more common now since I did this video and I’ve never heard any issue with that…
