    How to throw darts 5# - The Follow Through & Release of your darts throw.
    This part 5# of How to play darts.
    In this video we focus on following through with the dart and how to release the dart correctly to try and straighten out some of the biggest problems darts players face with their throwing action.
    My channel is exclusive to darts only content. I create my content as I simply love to play darts and want to help other dart players improve with my own channel.
    All my video's are based on how to play darts as well as advise on equipment and general darts setup with the aim to guide any new players in their darting journey as well as provide more experienced or even professional dart players with dart content to help improve.
    I throw around an 80 average myself with my left hand due to in injury and dartitis in my right arm.
    I may on occasion use footage from the Professional darts corporation (the P.D.C) as well as The British Darts organisation (The B.D.O). These are used under fair use legislation and all credit should be given the rightful creators.

    Thanks for the content. I stopped playing years ago after suffering from dartitis. Well, at least I think it was dartitis. In my good days I threw up to 15-20 180s a night.Average round about 85-90 and wanted to give it a go at the QS. But all went wrong. I threw my first 9-darter and after this it all went down. A few month ago I tried to start over again. But… Now I throw 45, 26 and 55 etc. Every now and then there is a 100 or 140 coming up but this feels as if it was a mistake. My throw does not feel as a throw. Feels like „lifting“ the dart into the board. Or „pressing“! All went wrong after I tried to improve my throw after recognizing me not following through correctly. Today I can’t get any of that great feeling back when you stand at the Oche and you just know that you will hit your target without even looking. I really really would appreciate any idea of coming out of this misery. As you write you suffered from dartitis… what did you do!? Thanks for your time and effort! Good luck for your career. Hope to see you soon at the PDC!

      I'll do a video on this soon mate 👍 it's so Hard to over come Dartitis and I know exactly what you mean when you say it feels like passing the dart. It's that split second after youv left the dart go, it's like your arm is chasing the dart not going though all the way with it 😞 no clarity in the throw and it feels lose. I have had Dartitis and spoken to loads of others that have as well and it so curl. This video needs to be done and I'll get working on it ASAP. 😃

    A textbook follow-through. Mimic this finish, full extension and palm down, and you cannot fail at becoming better.

    You said the slower the you pull back the dart the more power going forward. What's the theory behind that please? Good videos by the way :-)

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 года назад +5

      When you draw the dart back the mussels in your arm contract (almost like tensing you arm but without tension) and mentally you are preparing yourself to trust the dart forward as you must speed up on release of the dart during the throw in order to follow through correctly. :)
      By slowing down the drawback you give your arm more time to build this momentum and more time for your mussels to set in the correct position for throw to take place. :) its all about building the correct level of momentum behind the throw :)

    Should you always try to release the dart at the same point during the throw or do you vary it? When is the ideal time to release the dart? Also should you keep your elbow at the same level before you release the dart or do you adjust the elbow height sometimes?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 года назад +1

      The only time your elbow height should change is when you throw for different targets, the release point of the darts should always start at the 90 degree angle or just after it,
      Have a look at this video, you can see the release point perfectly.

    What I really would like to know as no video doesn't seem to cover this: Do you propel the dart with your wrist motion as well or does the wrist bend only just after releasing it? So does all of the power come from the arm or some extra "power" from the wrist movement as well?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  2 года назад +1

      Yes, most players will flick through with the wrist on release to add extra power and aid the follow though. :)

    At 2.03 you show the thumb and the first finger grip however the typing information then blocks out the visual of the front grip so for me only shows half the grip. Not a negative comment just what was missing from the video for me, personally would like to see the full grip so I can try it out 😊 loving your videos really helping and considering some coaching.

    Nice video. Apologies if you've covered this, but should the palm be side on or flat when the wrist is fully "cocked?" I seem to get a better follow through when my palm is literally facing the sky (at the back of the drawback). Difficult to explain, but imagine a waiter carrying a tray of drinks with one hand.
    The closest pros I've seen do this are mvg and luke littler. Some players seem to have the palm facing them, others faving up. Is one method more optimal in your experience?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 месяца назад +1

      Your explaining a closes grip and open grip. If your palm is facing more towards the board, its an open grip. If its towards your head, its closed. If closed you'll find your hand print when your arm in extended will be more like Taylors (if you throw straight). The hand will have more of an angle on it, so the gape between your index finger and thumb is down the line your throwing. If the grip is open like Gerwyn Price, the palm of your hand will be slightly more to the floor after the throw. :)

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 месяца назад +1

      Your alignment is off, you need to keep your elbow and shoulder down the same path you want the dart to fly and flick straight. It can take a few personal sessions to get this fixed but this is a video I made on it :)

    I hardly follow through at all with my darts. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a great player but I’m not awful. I try to actively follow through and my darts go wayward, if I return to what I’m comfortable with, I’ll usually hit T20. Should I try harder to follow through or stick with “what works for me”? I see many players on the circuit who don’t follow through much at all. To me, that say’s it’s more the case of do what works for you.

    • @Straightdarts

      Experiment following throw throw tge wrist and fingers, you don't need to gj through with your whole arm but some follow through is needed. :)

    i was looking through all your throw analysis videos, and noticed that only John Lowe doesnt have his palm totally facing downward as he follows through. For some reason, I cant have my palm face down too. How important is that or is it a good to have? Matters little as long as we have a smooth follow thrrough?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  Год назад

      Everyone's handprint after the throw is a big different ad the grip effects it, just me sure your wrist is going though. Taylor and Adams don't do it either. :)

      The few that do not practice this fundamental are the exception to the rule.
      Like any other sport, golf, for example, you would be wise to mimic what, in the long, will be in your favor. Jack Nicholus, in all his books, preached over and over the value of fundamentals. The palm-down method produces instant improvement. And if I can get better, then anyone can. Best of luck, and I wish you well.

    • @stevenjohnson8507
      @stevenjohnson8507 8 месяцев назад

      It will have to remain a mystery why you cannot finish with your palm down as you claim. If you can put your hands palms down at the dinner table, then you can do the same during your follow-through.

    My arm will always end up quite high after the release of the dart? Is this down to releasing the dart too late? And do I stop this?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  13 дней назад +1

      Yeah, the laster you release the more you'll lift. Find the pause at the end of the draw and work on lifting the wrist instead of the elbow. :) you'll need to throw alot softer to slow the forarm down. Let the wrist be the first thing ti more after the draw back. Flick it, don't throw it. :)

      @@Straightdartsthanks so much for getting in touch. I tend to throw like gary Anderson, pushing the dart rather than throwing and swiffling the dart into position. So I need to throw more like a Mervyn king style, more flick of the dart, just said Mervyn due to him also swiffling the dart into position. Find it quite hard to replicate how gary pushes the dart and keeps his forearm straight!!

    I just started and I have a question about the release should you release it with your fingers or your wrists

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  28 дней назад

      Your worst must be moving on release, you don't have to push with your fingers but some players find it helps to have a very small push off the fingers as well. :)

    Buy how do you get with the release that the dart flight is upwards and drops at the end?

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  Год назад

      You never want to do that. It cause the darts to wobble and decelerate. The point should be level or pointing upwards when leaving your hand.
