I miss playing this game when I was in elementary school. Nostalgia. I remember ALWAYS picking grueling pace constantly. I risked having my oxen die over time.
I was born in 90 and this game will forever live on in my heart. I absolutely LOVED this game in elementary school. I actually bugged my Pops for it when we got our first computer in the 90s. This game is definitely a treasure. Midnight Madness, test drive, Sim theme park, a certain lego game (I dont remember the exact name) were my top faves also.
Nostalgia city for me!! GREAT game, Many many hours spent playing this masterpiece on our Mac back in the mid/late 90’s if I remember correctly I was 15/16 I think
Darn, my school was stuck with the Apple II version back in 1992. I had nooo idea that this version was much more advanced on the graphix and real bullet sounds, let a lot its un-known release from which platform.
man i played this game on the OLD computers with the big floppy disks and i was the first in my class to get my group to and back, god the nostalgia and memories of classic games
I still take pride in never losing this game. :) I mean once I lost 3 people, which sucked, but I never lost. I always took it carefully. This game is a treasured classic.
I played this back when I was knee-high, and in black and white. It must've been over 25 years back, but I distinctly remember that I never managed to successfully ford a river.
Jag of Troy You did have me wondering when winter hit and you got that string of "no water" messages. Still, you probably had better luck than most of the folks who took the Trail for real way back when.
This was on my teacher's computer back in elementary. We would all try to finish our class work first, because the first two that finished got to use the computers.
This right here just hit me like a brick wall of memories. My class didnthe same thing. It was a christian school near tampa florida and if you finshed quickly you got to do that. But i remember doin that and the teacher didnt like me so they told me no and let the next kid go instead
For some reason, I always remember this game and having the curiosity and desire to play this game again. I haven’t played this since elementary school.
I was in kindergarten when I played this on a computer at school, had to be 1994. I never made it to the end. I never even understood it. Lol but the nostalgia is still there.
I played this game and the RMG hates me! I always have to stop and rest because my characters love frolicking with snakes and playing their favorite games of Lets See How Many Bones I Can Break Before I Die or Diseases: Gotta Catch Them All!
LMFAOOOOOO 9:12 I remember that feeling of not hitting any animals and just rapid clicking out of frustration.. 10:20 I remember I had this friend who was good at getting the squirrels so we would switch.
I only JUST found my old CD-ROM of this from the mid-90s, and played it again on a Windows 3.1 virtual machine a couple weeks ago. For probably the first time since 1999.
Still have my copy of this for CD-ROM. Also still have my '97 Compaq to run it on (got a few games that don't run on anything newer so I held onto it--mostly those are point-and-click adventure games).
I've played this version of the Oregon trail back when I just a boy 25+ years ago at grade school, but I sucked ass; I can never beat the game, let alone make it halfway through. Oh well.
It's because kids didn't know there were rules. I used to hunt for tons of meat even though you could only take back like 200 lbs. I always forded the river because it was free. I always took the banker because he had the most money and didn't get why people would pick teacher. And so on
Lol i played the deluxe edition on my laptop and i finished the game first try, i dont remember what difficulty it was but i got in the list of legends, it could have been easy cuz it didnt feel too hard
It wasn't until a couple of years ago I finally got to play any Oregon Trail games. We never played it in school when I was a kid, we only played Carmen San Diego . I guess it's because it's American history and we're Canadian. I hate to admit it but Canadian history is super-boring and it was one of my worst subjects at school. It was mostly just political stuff, only once in a while we'd read about something somewhat interesting like the Vikings coming to Newfoundland centuries before Columbus (I guess North America didn't exist until some white guys discovered it.) Anyway I told my mother I wanted to play the game at least once before I die, so she got for me at Christmas. :)
The hunts make no sense. First hunt you shot 3 deer and it gave you 100 pounds of food. Next hunt you got 5 buffalo and a deer or two and got 200 pounds lol. And 4 people ate damn near 100 pounds of food in 5 days!
That looks like a hard game, that version I wanna try it out. I like this survival game bc it really requires the player to actually think on what they’ll do and how they’ll treat the characters. RNG aside I think the game awards you for making good choices and it’s punishing for making the smallest mistake, like I don’t know- losing all your oxen at the first river…
If no-one told you yet, there is a site for abandonware (not sure if I can link it, but it isn't hard to find, just search for the abandonware site) and just use dosbox to run the game. Happy trails, partner.
FINALLY! I found the version of Oregon Trail I used to play!!
‘Bout time
Same here.
@@Jreyes4127 I didn’t realize there were so many different versions- and this one is a more “advanced” one ☝️

Same! I had so much trouble finding the one that I had played in school!
April 1st: "You started the trail with 7 oxen!"
April 5th: "You lost 5 oxen.."
😂 😆 😂
Can't they swim?
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 they were attached lol…I felt bad for the last two oxen…
I miss playing this game when I was in elementary school. Nostalgia. I remember ALWAYS picking grueling pace constantly. I risked having my oxen die over time.
Now this brings back memories.
I Know. I reamber this so well
Same.
Who else played this in school?
Ahhh yes brings back childhood memories...playing this and watching school house rock was my favorite things in school!
Everytime it rained in elementary they'd open the computer class.. those were the days
I'm nearly 22 and I played this game today for the first time. It's a true retro gem.

I doubt anyone really got this experience. It was either at school or the library.
I had this in my elementary class back in about 2007-2010
So much nostalgia from the elementary school computer lab. It was this and Dino Park Tycoon with that crazy jazz-a-saurus rex. Good times.
You shouldn't have forded those rivers. Only ford the river if it's 2.5 feet deep or less.
10:33 "you shot 1778 pounds of food and used 20 bullets, but were only able to carry 200 pounds of food back." That's alot of waste lol
man i played this game on the OLD computers with the big floppy disks and i was the first in my class to get my group to and back, god the nostalgia and memories of classic games
After all of that resting for Ironclaw and his constant illnesses, he finally drowned at the very end.
Bethesda needs to make a Fallout type Oregon Trail game.
I still take pride in never losing this game. :) I mean once I lost 3 people, which sucked, but I never lost. I always took it carefully. This game is a treasured classic.
Loved playing this game in school!
I played this back when I was knee-high, and in black and white. It must've been over 25 years back, but I distinctly remember that I never managed to successfully ford a river.
I'm surprised I could manage this time.
Jag of Troy You did have me wondering when winter hit and you got that string of "no water" messages. Still, you probably had better luck than most of the folks who took the Trail for real way back when.
Just did, and thanks for clearing that up.
This was on my teacher's computer back in elementary. We would all try to finish our class work first, because the first two that finished got to use the computers.

It was always fun playing this game in school!- Especially living in Oregon. Made it that much cooler. I still get excited when I talk about it 😁.
For some reason, I always remember this game and having the curiosity and desire to play this game again. I haven’t played this since elementary school.
Bulletproof bunnies! *Shoot 8 bison, animals that weigh 2000 lbs each* .... "you brought back 200 lbs of food"
This is the best version
I was in kindergarten when I played this on a computer at school, had to be 1994. I never made it to the end. I never even understood it. Lol but the nostalgia is still there.
I used to play this version in elementary, took me a while to find this version again.
I used to play this in school man I miss the old days
6:58 seriuously you tried to cross a 6 feet river by walking, lol wtf? haha
😂😂😂
I know right? It's actually 6.5ft. I'd rather float.
And five sets of clothes for the snake River
As a little kid I always died before the end. Anyways, as an adult now it's time to play some Red Dead Redemption 2! :D
Tsunao couldn't catch a break from all the diseases lmao
uuugh! poor Schlauchi and Ironwork, they almost made it :(
Oh my godddd! Memory lane!!!!! I miss this time, loved this game!
Thank you for making this video! True nostalgia
I played this game and the RMG hates me! I always have to stop and rest because my characters love frolicking with snakes and playing their favorite games of Lets See How Many Bones I Can Break Before I Die or Diseases: Gotta Catch Them All!
I never saw it as that but I’m glad I do XD
Ouch that first fording... that sucked man. The second one you were damn lucky.
The random number god shows his presence at an early age.
Those weren't good choices. I rather float on them.
Yooooo. This is classic as fuck! The jingle when someone died scared the shit out of me when I was a kid lmao.
"You can't walk across its 6.5 feet de- OMG THE POOR OXEN"
LMFAOOOOOO 9:12 I remember that feeling of not hitting any animals and just rapid clicking out of frustration.. 10:20 I remember I had this friend who was good at getting the squirrels so we would switch.

6:35 anyone who played this game knows why you don't ford the river if you can help it lol.
That river was too deep to ford.
Bruhhhh memories flooding in from elementary school
Poor Tsunao. He practically caught every major disease known to man. And the oxen never seem to have grass.
Still have my copy of this for CD-ROM. Also still have my '97 Compaq to run it on (got a few games that don't run on anything newer so I held onto it--mostly those are point-and-click adventure games).
I’m I weird for imagining a constant flood of Oregon scenarios each ending more badly than the last??

#THROWBACK! Omgosh! I haven't played this game in ages! TY 4 uploading!
No problem! Figured it would hit people with the nostalgia feels train.
wow remember this as a kid .
I need this game again in my life
Tsunao was weak af, bro got sick and bitten by everything
wow does this bring back memories.
Sadly my memories of this game include blowing all my money on poker which ironically was a reflection on my adult life.
40:46 You have reached Playoff Land
Spanos’ Delight
As kids, my peers and I always loaded up on bullets. We played this game at my house during our 10 yr HS reunion. We still loaded up on damn bullets.
This guy isn't reading at all, he keeps killing 7x the amount of food he can carry back
Has anyone seen the StarKid musical based on this game?

I wish I could play this again
I had the 95/96 deluxe version. Basically the same version, but with updated music. Like this comment if you did also. 👍🏻
I was allowed to play it in school only a couple times, and I swear bandits stole my oxen every time. I could only make it Fort Boise.
This is the good one. Innocence 4lyf.
The developers needs to make a Fallout type Oregon Trail game.
6:43 LOLZ :)
Yea I definitely screwed up there.
Man look at that HUD

1971?! There were no video games then
The played the 1.2 version on in school in the late 90s
Played as a kid in school…. Best times
Same 😂

2nd and 3rd grade memories
You took the wrong trail that was good at 23:32
RIP Ironclaw
Is there an app version of this game play or download
Wow. I'm old!
5:33 I knew you would pick APRIL
How'd you know? :P
I remember this
The improvement from the original to this was oustanding.. I didn't get to play this as much as I wanted back then. And likely never will
I'm playing Oregon Trail 1.2 on Windows 11 but i -cannot- get sound to work, even running in compatibility mode
Pefect game to pick grueling pace, have all my oxen die and then get pissed and ask why my all my oxen died.
Losing 5 oxen right of the bat....hard luck
Why didn't you do any trading?
I sort of remember this, but mostly I remember the far superior sequel Oregon Trail 2
I want to still play
Me too!!!!
How do you beat this game, as a kid i always died lol
My highest score on this was 9205.
I played this in middle school
How do you play this
How does one play this now? Can it be downloaded from somewhere onto windows?
If no-one told you yet, there is a site for abandonware (not sure if I can link it, but it isn't hard to find, just search for the abandonware site) and just use dosbox to run the game. Happy trails, partner.
Don't forget load runner 😉
Reading game description somewhere... This game doesnt actually have an end? Its just about surviving?
It does have an end. Reaching Willamette valley is the end.
You should watch starkids musical parody of this game!
ScHIAuChi got lost? Oh noes! (18:52)
i played this in like 1st grade
I played this in elementary school
this game is great for critical thinking. you cant fucking swim across a 6 feet deep river
