Thank you for writing, one of the best female characters ive ever seen in a movie. It was beautiful. An actual living breathing human being; a strong, female character, who's not a bag of western/south asian feminist stereotypes, but an actual human being. The lack of male gaze in the character was SO REFRESHING

Wow @maheshgs3 what's with all the hate ? I read your deleted comment .. why don't you stop making assumptions and wait till the movie is out. Also, which part of my comment indicated that this movie is based on my Great Grandmother. I only commented because Sudha is making a movie about First Female Docs in South India and my great grandma happened to be one. And for your information she wasn't Brahmin ... It shouldn't be anyone's business what cast we are, all I know is that it wasn't easy for her, she came to Madras, completed her studies and chose Madras as her home. Her daughter (my grandma) and many other family member also followed suit. I know my family and I are better off now thanks to a decision she made a 100 years ago. It's evident that women would have found it difficult to get into medical school a century ago, However, now having read your comment it's a surprise she became a doctor at all ! If someone in 2022 has so much affinity towards a particular cast, I can't imagine how difficult it must have been a 100 years ago for someone from a different cast, let alone a women to even step into a medical college. We as a country are bound to regress as long as we have people who can't see past their religion or cast.

The fact remains that Soorarai Potru mixed the previleged origins of Captain Gopinath just to cater to the masses is as problematic as calling someone a "woman director". Irudhi Sutru as well catered to masses by making the heroine a Dhanush fan. There is clear force fitting that's done by some directors, just like how Slumdog Millionaire romanticed Dharavi. The fact that some of these directors are previleged makes it an even more sinister approach. Clever though.

We couldn't make a head or tail of the title!
This story was of Captain G R Gopinath , a Kannadiga's success story so to say and such an oversight ?

@@oceanistoosmall Oh yeah completely agree but i wasn't talking about the envious part actually. Was talking about the deadline part, the fact that beast is very poorly written script and he i suppose didn't care to polish the script may be coz of deadline given the sun pictures or some sort or may be he just din't care to write it properly and fully relied on Vijay's stardom which backfired completely.

I don’t understand how these male anchors have a tone of dominance over HER victory and how they interview her. Not only BR but the anchor from indiaglitz also had the same tone-as if “looks like you got success..well done and let’s see how you do next”. When they talk to Shankar or Maniranam, the anchors tone has lot of respect and they don’t fail to give kudos for everything they do. Well done Sudha!!! Your clarity in expression is amazing.

Mam big fan your work, but beg to differ you at the lady director tag point, I think there is nothing wrong in calling that, if today or tomorrow if your movie being watched someone from abroad they may ask there indian friends or colleagues about your movie and the guys refers you has a lady director, will impress the American guy and there perspective of seeing India will change, many think india is the most horrifying country to live for women (which is some what true but not entirely) that perspective opinion will change.

There is not such thing as privileged filmmaker! If your process is proven to be a success, you get films and if the same privileged filmmaker ends up with a failure, he loses the privileges which is happening with Gautam Menon now! And that privileged filmmaker she is referring to is Vetrimaran, who writes his dialogues on the set! Lokesh also does some of his dialogues on set and this is an envious take of this toxic liberal lady who turned a brahmin into a SC for the sake of her identity and inclusion as a so called progressive filmmaker.!
