Maisky would be half as good if he doesn't play on his wonderful cello. It is probably the best cello in the world. He is often out of tune, sometimes he makes weird things but anyway. He is a great personality no doubt about it. I liked this recording.
I love you guys, you make a wonderful orchestra. Bravo. I appreciate Maisky came to join you, your performance of Arpeggione together is magnificent. Thank you so much!
Superb performance! This group plays like one! Bravo! Shout out to the vigilant and dedicated bass player holding it down! Doin' the lords work, bless you!
Yeah, I thought they might have wanted TWO bass players. . . . The one was indeed doing great work. ¶ I liked her positioning, too: right in the middle, with the cellos, also almost right in the middle.
Muzik, a universal inheritance of peace, serenity and blissful oblivion. To be privileged to be born after the great composers and to experience every emotion their inputs have endowed all humanity. They never really passed on!
I love this treatment. Mischa Maisky is up there with Rostropovic, but the beauty of the music comes from the wonderful way that the whole group of musicians work together. When there is so much pomposity and pretence in music it is a breath of fresh air to see a group of musicians gathered to honour the music itself!
It is the third time I listen this sonata I cannot describe the level of sublime and supreme beauty of the performance and not to mention his creator the great great F Schubert whom I paid tribute with my wife in Vienna at his birth place, his last house at Kettenbrückengasse and finally his last resting place in the Vienna's central cemetery It was really moving. This performance is unique and performed at its utmost beauty.
As a Japanese person , I want to finish my last life while listening to this masterpiece under the Japanese cherry blossoms in full bloom at the shining night of the fullmoon . 🍎
These great performers perfectly understand Schubert's aesthetic and intent and spirit Deep emotion is reaching my heart , and it is the time of supreme bliss .
The first time I came across Schubert's Arpeggione Cello with Orchestra. never knew it could be that sweet and violent at the same time. Look out for the adagio at 13:32, it will break your hearts.
My random first thought watching this performance is how mind-boggling it is when, as a response to the question of 'what kind of music do you listen to', you tell the asker 'classical', and your answer is met with ridicule, confusion, a blank stare, or indifference. I am not a musicologist or a professional musician, but I have been listening to classical my entire life, being first vacuumed into its orbit by J.S. Bach, who I would sit in front of my grandparents stereo and listen to as early as, perhaps, kindergarten. And Beethoven. And Schubert. And Bach I consider a friend in some non-corporeal, eternal sense; someone who has been with me my entire life; whose music was with me in the hardest times; whose music, and little else besides, was with me in the worst times and, very possibly, alone saved me from destruction; whose music causes all celestial beings to take pause and listen as the strains vibrate through the heavens. And you can tell the asker wonders why you listen to boring music and not rap. It absolutely boggles the mind. To see Maisky's energy is a reminder of the depth of involvement of classical music, from the authorship to the interpretation to the conducting to the performance...and to the final destination: one's deepest self. No music today understands that. Just a random though. By the way I fell in love with this piece from the DG recording of Maisky's performance of this accompanied only by Maria Horova on piano. It is one of my favorite classical recordings. If you are unfamiliar I highly recommend it. Cheers.
It seems to me tat the "arpeggione" sonata (for arpeggione and piano) has mutated into a full blown concerto for violoncello and chamber orchestra. I have nothing against, it should be described as a concerto. Nicely rendered, by sure. Nice to hear it.
It is quite OK for me to have Rostropovich (God bless his soul!), Yo-Yo Ma, Jacqueline du Pré, Gautier Capuçon and many others among my favorites. That makes World larger and more coluorful. :-)
I like to hear Stephan Hausen best of all................and on the other hand, there are so many good cellists, how can we say one is better than another?
Well it’s always rated as exiting artists first and the critics it’ll always to saying there’s differences of the styles and expressions it can’t to compare-able between with them but this just excuses there’s differences ! Please listening it !!
I see the same formula in music making Maiski and Heifetz. That is don't play exactly same way twice when it's repeated. Then it's ever interesting to listen to.
Schubert is Schubert, and there is no need to find a lot of words. And Mischa Maisky with this chamber orchestra created a gem. Bravo!
Pure musical bliss. I love this music and I love Maisky. The young musicians are superb. Thank you for this wonderful moment.
Marly Harris I agree. This is truly a masterpiece.
Maisky would be half as good if he doesn't play on his wonderful cello. It is probably the best cello in the world. He is often out of tune, sometimes he makes weird things but anyway. He is a great personality no doubt about it. I liked this recording.
@Lubor Kloda I agree with you
@@luborkloda8903 He plays out of tune? And you, how do you play the cello?

The amount of respect shown at the end by the performers and the audience is just as beautiful as the music.
As always, Schubert's music is so tender and serene.
Heart, soul, feelings. I feel enchanted! Thank you!

To quote my Aunt Milla, "Schubert, the most unsung hero of music."
Actually one of the most sung (if you get my meaning).

Gracias por la música

Don't think I've seen an Orchestra all wearing jeans before - but why not?! Is that their usual costume - or was this some special 'casual' event?
It's a sing of the times.

He is one of the few known as "cello royalty"
Not an arpeggione and not a sonata. The instrument is called a cello and the arrangement is called a concerto. But it is splendid.
damn Misha got old. Never heard this piece with violins in the background too.
Molto commovente.
lionello grifo, poeta.
13:32 - it's when the father-figure (front row, right behind the conductor) showed affection for his female companion and got rejected!
