Demolishing and clearing out decrepit vacant buildings and burned out row houses is all fine and dandy but that alone will not solve Baltimore’s serious socioeconomic problems. There needs to be major investments in education and economic development. There needs to be programs aimed at getting at risk youths off of the streets and into constructive activities. Maryland has one of the best public school systems in the country yet Baltimore is one of the nation’s most undereducated cities. Obviously a major disconnect between the city and the rest of the state.
