  • I install the Solid Shifter Base Bushings from Sico Developments for Ford Focus RS!
Made from quality anodized aluminium in black, they are very light weight, strong and really look cool!
This mod from SiCo Developments is all about the shift feel and is a worthy upgrade on its own but is especially going to be awesome in combination with all the other shift mods that I have done!
There are variants of this mod available for the Ford Focus RS MK3 (and other Ford models) from other manufacturers as but I chose to go with SiCo Developments because I know they actually use the products they design and I have always had good service from them!
The stock shifter base bushings are made from a squishy, soft rubber - they can literally be bent in half with just your fingers! This means that the whole shifter assembly can move in any direction (albeit only a little) quite easily when shifting. The result of this, which will be mostly felt under hard gear shifting, can be a kind of bouncy, soft feeling when the travel of the shifter hits maximum. This effect can have a negative, vague feeling when shifting gear, feeling a bit like you are pulling on rubber bands!
The solid shifter base bushings from SiCo Developments are just that - solid - so they will not deform in any way when the shifter position is changed and so will remove the possibility of the bouncy feeling and should make gear shifting feel more 'solid'! The change may be simple but should be noticeable, especially when giving it the beans!
What SiCo Developments say about the shifter base bushing upgrade:
Shifter Base Bushing Set replaces the OEM rubber bushings on the bottom of the shifter providing a more stable shifter platform and mounting points. This means improved shifting feel and characteristics for years of enjoyment.
    - Cnc machined 6061-T6 billet aluminum
    - Installs in under 30 minutes
    - Black anodized
The installation is fairly easy although a bit time consuming - I was expecting it to be much more hassle but really it was pretty methodical, doing one logical step and then the next. You can do the install with minimal tools - some trim tools and basic screw drivers and sockets. The plastic trim removal is always a little daunting to be fair, I never like taking the risk of damaging the plastics if I don't have to but they actually came off fairly easily and without too much fuss - just a little persuasion along with the appropriate use of plastic (definately not metal as it will damage!) trim tools!
Check out how to install the part, from start to finish beginning with removing the trim and entire shifter assembly to get access to the stock bushings, all the way through the install including some top tips to help you along the way!
Returning to stock is possible as the stock bushings are just popped out so it isn't a destructive process although with using glue, you would have to carefully de-bond and clean everything up but it would be possible.
This is the fourth modification to my shifter setup - check out the others below:

There is one final piece of the shifter puzzle that I am planning very soon for my Ford Focus RS MK3 - if you are familiar with parts that are available then you will likely be able to work out what that will be!
They are the solid bushings to replace the rubber version in the shifter cable bracket so make sure you keep an eye out for that video!

When I installed my ford racing short shifter I removed what you did plus the arm rest center console, made things a little easier when removing the whole shifter assembly. Little extra work but made life a little easier. (Or more complicated lol)

Hey Adam - are those carbon pieces around your shifter trim and HVAC controls the real deal or are they stick on trims ? In either case, where did you source them from (I assume not standard on the RS) ?

Hi Stan, both. They are real bits of carbon fibre that are stuck on. They are from the Mk3focusrs.club
