Ellis Burks was my favorite player growing up. I have every baseball card edition of him in a Red Sox uniform, I think. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this.
The thing that frustrated me the most about making this is that there’s so little footage of him out there, even though he was such a good ball player. I tried presenting his greatness for those who never saw him play. Thanks for the support!
I went to about 30 home games in 1996, and I can often remember that he was always the most underappreciated player in Denver. I would look up at the scoreboard and see numbers close to Castilla, Walker and Bichette but he also was a good outfielder. When that team, at Coors, shelled Greg Maddux, I knew they were stacked.
Great Video!!! I'm a Sox fan and always liked Ellis. One of the Quickest Swings ever!! Thx Sox For Signing Him in 2004. Career .291 with 2100 hits, Take away half the injuries and he gets 3000 hits maybe. WS Champ!!!!!
And oh yeah 04 was even more magical because he got to experience it too, I remember being so happy for him. I started watching baseball in 1990 as an 11 year old, and Ellis was there, I'll never forget it.
Never knew about this guy but so many RUclipsrs for baseball content mention him in underrated players or how good he was and cool to see this video now
You could do this exact type video for Lance berkman. He ALWAYS gets overlooked cause he played in the steroid Era, although he was never associated w them. But he was a switch hitter on top of everything...dude shoulda gotten waaaaaay more love in HoF vote.
He was still ridiculously good in 2011 when STL won it all. If he had a couple more solid healthy seasons after that, he might’ve had more Hall of Fame consideration. Still a fantastic career regardless
I beat Jon to the draw this time and stole his format. This is the best google earth video released today on a baseball player who played for the 1993 white sox as of now.
This is why I'm happy with universal DH, a lot of these guys probably could've had their careers extended with just a few days off their feet during the season
The thin air og Colorado would make an above average player turn into an All-Star (Dante Bichette) and an All-Star caliber player (Larry Walker) into a Hall of Famer. Burks was sort of in the middle of those two players in terms of talent. He was a good player at Boston but nobody who saw him early in his career would have ever predicted he would put up the numbers he did in 1996 which ranks in the pantheon of All-Time greatest single seasons in MLB history. That said, I have often wondered what would have happened if a player like Ken Griffey Jr played in Colorado during his prime? Like, what would that thin air do to the stats of a player who was destined to go to Cooperstown before be ever stepped to the plate in Colorado?
Walker was that good before and after Colorado, burks had some of his best seasons after leaving. Bichette, though, was almost fully a product of the park
@@AndThatsBaseball yeah, Walker was an All-Star level player in Montreal but he became Ted Williams in Colorado. I would have LOVED to have seen Wade Boggs play in Colorado, even if it was after his prime. Im pretty positive be would have not only hit .400 but might have also broken the single season record for BA in a season.
I love the gall of titles like this. "Hey you, person who's a big enough baseball fan to watch niche RUclips content on the sport, I bet you've never heard of Ellis Burks, recent 18-year MLB veteran" I know clickbait titles are intentionally shameless, but they don't also have to be stupid and insulting.

Ellis Burks and Mike Greenwell from those late 80's - early 90's Red Sox teams were 2 of my favorite players.
Same here
He was really good in his time with Cleveland.
He was the king of the doubles... Was nice w Boggs and Greenwell
I saw his last hit with the Red Sox in 2004. He got a standing ovation on the road against the Orioles.
Plus he finally won a World Series ring on the way out the door.
I love Ellis. So happy he got a ring with the Sox.
Such an under appreciated player and teammate
I know and love Ellis. I'm 44, originally from Massachusetts, and still put him as my leadoff hitter in RBI Baseball 😂
I wore 23 playing baseball growing up because of Burks when he was on the Indians
Loved Ellis Burks when he was on the Giants. One of my fav players when I was a kid.
Was a big card collector in the day and he always had nice stats

loved him on my indians good to see him get some recognition
I LOVED Ellis in Cleveland. He always had this "it" factor even if he wasnt the superstar he deserved to be.
Another great was Chili Davis.
As a Padres fan, my mom n I hated every time he hit
She’d say “ there’s that DAMN chili Davis”!
Ellis is a great commentator for the Sox as well. No idea why NESN doesn't use him more.
Nesn truly does have the most entertaining crew of commentators. Dennis got me cracking every fucking game
I miss Dan and Jerry, immensely 😞
That 87 season of Burks and Greenwell in Boston was awesome
Love the Bois format with your own style
Thanks, this means a lot considering Jon is the GOAT at this, I really appreciate it!
This was amazing. Had that real dorktown quality too.
I'm a 43 year old red sox fan, so I definitely know Ellis Burks well.
He actually works for nesn now too, so I still see him from time to time on TV as an analyst. He's a great guy.
And oh yeah 04 was even more magical because he got to experience it too, I remember being so happy for him. I started watching baseball in 1990 as an 11 year old, and Ellis was there, I'll never forget it.
Ellis is now doing a podcast with a fellow youtuber of mine Robbie Hyde, and I think that’s the coolest thing in the world
The ending we all needed and wanted
As a Yankees fan it kinda sucks but for the narrative it’s perfect

@@AndThatsBaseball That STL team also who had Chris Carpenter who had a monster year/postseason and was never the same after right?
And he added 30 stolen bases in that initial Rockies season. He was so good!!
I want to see a video like this about Will Clark.
If you were a baseball fan in the 90s and don’t know who Ellis Burks is, you were either in a coma or were perma-high…
I feel like most people my age don't know about him. He's never mentioned with the great players of the 90s
Boston fans know Ellis Burks..he was a young stud in the late 80s and early 90s and was a veteran leader on the 2004 team
Saw him play with the Red Sox. Always really liked him and Dave Roberts too. Just good vets to have around to spread the vibes.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Burks, make it count❤❤❤
Loved the video then actually did a fist pump at the end reveal. Great work!
Who would have thought that there was such a good outfielder during the late 90s and early 2000s
One of the bigger ifs of that time
Yeah honestly a bit of a dead period for them tbh
Yeah definitely not many like that
Blake Street Bomber-my favorite Rockies player. He was great!!!
Burks was a great player.
He really was
Damn I actually guessed it was Ellis Burks. Good for me! Should be a hall of famer
If he was healthy for just a few more prime seasons he definitely would've been
Underrated player.
First vid that I’ve watched in this channel. Could be a hidden 💎 for ⚾️ content. Keep it going!
Thanks man I appreciate the support!
Fun fact. Ellis Burks went to my high school
Great work. Love it.
Glad you enjoyed!
I remember Ellis Burks.
Dude Burks was a player we of the 80’s and 90’s know. He was good in the Nintendo game RBI Baseball.
Ellis now does the Cleveland pregame and postgame show from time to time. He is awesome
I'm a Chicago White Sox fan and he had a damn good season with the Sox.
They should’ve made him a better offer to stick around long term. Sox could’ve supplemented Frank’s bat a little better
@@AndThatsBaseball 💯
Really good video. I feel like your channel is about to blow up.
I appreciate the support and I definitely hope so!
@@AndThatsBaseball Are you a Yankees fan? Your video on Aaron Boone would make me think so.
Yessir, if you check out my twitter during the season it’s mostly live tweeting Yankees games or complaining about them
I think we've all heard of Ellis Burks
I'm watching this instead of reading a letter from the commissioner.
Love to see it

That was definitely a Pretty Good ending

Take a shot every time Ellis Burks gets injured.

Bruh.
The secret base inspiration is strong!
random sporcle quizzes taught me about how good ellis burks was
There's almost no highlights of him, which is crazy because he was on so many great teams
@@AndThatsBaseball makes me wonder what larry walker could’ve done in the AL as a DH

I always hoped the Mets would trade for Ellis Burks back in the 80's and 90's.
Ellis Burks doesn’t deserve to be in the hall and that’s sad to say. Great player cut short by injuries.
Real talk.
I knew it was Ellis burka at the start
Yeah the title is a bit exaggerated but most younger casual fans don’t remember him
My man you need to get on with #SecretBase RUclips Crew... your vids like this would fit in perfectly with their #Dorktown or #ChsrtParty series
Who born in the 90s or earlier had never heard of Ellis Burkes?
We’re not all dinosaurs, old man

Henry Aaron?
That's his legal name He went by Hank.
Knee tendinitis?.. they didn't have advil in the early 90s?
What about bucky j
wow I genuinely forgot how good this guy was! hitting .340 woth power in somewhere not called Denver is astounding!
He was already old by that point too, and he was also a clean guy going against mostly juiced up pitchers

I’ve got a lot of younger fans who never saw him play. Hell I never saw him play, I know him cuz I’m a nerd who spends all day on baseball reference.
A lot of people have never heard of him, including diehard baseball fans, You're the insulting one.
Stupid title. I remember Ellis Burks back when he came up with Boston.
Most people who weren’t baseball fans in the 90s don’t know him at all tho. Name lost to time in that sense.
Nobody under 30 knows who the hell who he is. He's not talking about you bozo

He's in the red Sox hall of fame
Hall of fame needs redone there needs to be a hall of notables first
Not surprising his best years started in the steroid era
he wasn't on roids though, his weight was unchanged. so if they played well from '95 to '05, you automatically accuse them of being on Roids? Yikes!!!
