  • Third time lucky for Wahoo when it comes to heart rate monitors? Time will tell! The TRACKR is their third generation heart rate monitor to hit the shelves. The notable updates are the switch to an internal rechargeable battery (~100hrs of use) and redesigned chest strap with a hook-style closure. Supporting both ANT+ and multi-Bluetooth wireless connections, let's see how this goes out in the field to find out if Wahoo have “exercised” the demons that possessed their previous generation TICKR! 😉

    had the original tickr, took me 4 years for one of the connections to corrode and break, asked wahoo for a replacement strap (which they don't make anymore) and they sent me the new unit, I'd be happy with 4 years from a device, and more than happy with wahoo customer service

      I already have a few of these charging cables because I own Shokz headsets, and they had been (and might still be) including two cables per headset. For me, this charging method has been very reliable. I was initially skeptical when Shokz (AfterShokz at the time) moved away from the standard mini-USB as those cables were ubiquitous, but the newer cable makes so much sense and allows greater water resistance. (Sweat ingress had been an issue with the TICKR Gen 2 due to defective battery door tabs, from my experience and apparently that of many others.) For reference, my most recent Shokz headsets are the Aeropex and now the OpenRun Pro.

    I found unsnapping the unit from the strap after every ride makes the battery last 10x as long. Seems to be the case with more than one brand. This could be because of the climate I live in is usually 90+ humidity.

    • @alessiob8700
      @alessiob8700 15 дней назад +1

      I can confirm this. And it's not the climate, mine had the same problem while sitting in the house at 30% humidity (forced air heating). It would eat a battery every month or 2. Now it's been running on the same one since December.

    Well done as always sir! It will be a while before I give Wahoo a try again. My original still works and I liked it so much I bought a new one thinking the old unit would eventually fail despite my “good care. The second generation… (or whatever generation that is) is junk and only worked well for a very short time. I have moved on. Will watch for your six month update. I’ve had heart issues and heart valve repair surgery so accurate, reliable HR is important to me and right now I would not trust that to Wahoo.

  • @stephenbetley9596

  • @yousufkazmi7842

    Tickr (2), when it warmed-up was great, getting it to "warm-up" was the issue, yes I knew all the tricks... It also burnt thru battries.
    Garmin HRM is just short of 2 yrs of reliable use, with zwift it's on ANT+ which just reconnects if I leave the room and my Fenix will auto connect when recording outside stuff.
    Issue with Gramin is the case, as the screws are torx & only 1 works now due to breakaage of the sockets .
    Edit: Both HRMs are chest straps, as was my old Garmin HRM (ant+ only, 520 era package)

    Perfectly placed hawk tuah. 😂 I thought I was the only one that did that to get the monitor reading. Also, I had no idea the Tickr has issues. I've had mine for 10 months and it's still working great. I'm curious what the problems are with it.

  • @martinemptage6798
    @martinemptage6798 16 дней назад

    was good to see the change for the battery, i bought the latest tickr earlier on this year and broke the clip on the battery cover just gently removing it (not enough matrial to make it strong enough to last, very brittle), so it was a literal one and done use of the strap. The charge port looks like the same charge port/connector that is used on the shokz bone conduction headphones. But I bet the dimensions are slightly different and most likely the power specs are slightly different as well.

    Looks like they finally fixed their major design flaw. Unlike the new garmin and polar units, the old tickr battery door sat directly against your skin as opposed to being attached to the strap. I had two tickr units die and both had corrosion from moisture inside the battery compartment. It would be nice if the manufacturers provided additional o-rings that you could use when swapping the battery.

  • @proctermorris6657
    @proctermorris6657 16 дней назад +1

    Ha, you had me laughing Shane.
    On a serious note, I've had recent success with the TickR device itself, just the snaps on the strap would always break in the long run. At least you could get reasonably cheap replacements. The Garmin's of old, I'd find the straps was causing erroneous readings (and not the monitor), but the strap replacement was an issue, so that's how I landed at Wahoo. I've recently started with a Garmin HRM Pro, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.
    It may well have been you, but I had heard somewhere about onboard rechargeable batteries being the next thing in HRM's, so this will be interesting. Can't see how it will be a bad thing. Life cycle for the $ is the question I guess.
    As you say, they do operate in a tough climate though.

Thinking about it, I've actually had 5. The fifth was a warranty replacement and it crapped out as well. Switched to the Garmin and i've had ZERO issues. It saddens me, since I'm a Wahoo fan.

    If Wahoo came out and said that the TICKR Chest HR was not designed for indoor use and instead directed those of us who do a lot of indoor riding to the TICKR FIT arm strap HR Monitor...I think folks would still be annoyed at having to buy something different, but it would save a little bit of face. I’ve always taken the monitor off the strap after every ride. Dry the monitor and store in a dry cupboard. Strap gets a wash and hung to dry. Only had 1 issue in 6 years which wahoo replaced foc out of warranty.

    Gen 1 tickr is my favorite. Still have one and works flawlessly. Gen 2 is a nightmare to me, i have 4 of then (get one and have to had 3 replacement from dealer) heart rate will freeze for 3-5 minutes. That's why i have to replace them one by one but they all freeze. Maybe i get it too new just after it release, the 4 are 3 tickr2 and 1 tickr2X, same, freeze heart rate. It's just only freeze on me. Then i use HRM-dual and my old tickr 1 they all last for 5 more years now.
    So Still don't really get this trackr? Is it not even a tickr X? Can i say it's a basic HR with rechargable wire?
    Also had a hrm-pro, i do love it's function but really hate it's intergrated strap. Finally have to sell it because i really don't want to wash it everytime and hope it survive washing machine.

    For a while I thought using conductive gel on the straps would help with my Tickr...turns out when you sweat the gel thins and can penetrate past the o-ring seal and short out the HRM. Took two Tickrs to discover....

    My Garmin Edge 500 HRM still doesn’t miss a beat (pun intended). It’s about 13 years young, the Edge 500 mount just broke and can’t get a new one, so sellotape it is! Secure, but makes it hard to read the screen. Called Garmin and they were very impressed it’s still working 😃

      Should be more clear, the back of the Garmin unit mount lips have broken, not the mount.

    I spent money on a Tickr, I figured 90 bucks it would work all the time, every time. Instead I could never depend on it and would instead use my $20 magene and 10 and 12 year old Garmin ones.
    In the end Wahoo replaced it under warranty and I sold it in the package. I have since been using the cheapest ones I can find and they always work, untill the straps stop working.

    series 1 tickr. It. just. works. I did kill straps eventually. However, I hand wash them rather than chucking them in a washing machine. They last much, much longer. I don't recall it costing 145 AUD ?!?

    • @AB-fh9zh
      @AB-fh9zh 16 дней назад

      It was less than half that price. The series 1 was great, I also took good care of it and mine lasted >10 years. Might have replaced the strap once. Battery life was amazing, always connected easily, signal was rock solid. For technology this established, these prices are crazy.

    I've also killed a Polar H10, I'm in the same boat as you, anything works great for the OEM battery, once that goes, the device goes to crap.

    I just got 2 warranty replacement Tickrs from Wahoo. I just sent them two pictures of broken battery door tabs. Easy replacement, should have tipped me off that a new version was coming out.
    I did switch to the H10 hoping for better longevity.
    100 hrs is pretty good, but with that, I'm sure people will forget to charge.

    • @CRcyclist

      Same with me! Battery door tab issues and warranty replacements from Wahoo. They had been sending out customer surveys about the TICKR over the past few months (to which I responded about the defective battery door tabs), and this was my tip-off that they might have been working on an updated version. The TRACKR does seem to fix that issue completely as it has no removable battery and now uses a recharging system that for me has been very reliable (Shokz headsets; been using for years).

    I've actually never had a heart rate strap break down, except my Wahoos, they all seem to start reporting things like my heart rate being precisely 198 bpm for two hours straight and similar things after a year or so.Often gradually, so the data goes from pretty credible to utter garbage over the course of a few months.
    I really like that they have status leds though, and really wish my current Polar H10 also had them.
