It's on all of us fisherman, to look out for our fellow mariners. The Coast Guard are spread thin, and will often request that any vessels in the area render assistance. If you hear a mayday, or a pan pan, on the VHF - you might be the only ones close enough to save lives.

The Bronx Queen was my first charter boat experience over 60 yrs ago. It was a converted WW2 sub chaser. After the war it spent its retirement mostly on the Bronx River. On Dec 20, 1989, she sank. First reports were that she struck a submerged object. Later reports cited improper modifications. Nineteen people were rescued after two hours in the water, unfortunately 2 passed away, 1 from exposure, the other had a heart attack. Communications and safety equipment continues to improve but one should always remember, who’s in charge.

Scary! Glad everyone is safe! I was on the tomahawk a couple years ago where we entered some crazy waters and the bow of the boat cracked open some time during the night and another passenger had got injured while sleeping in the top bunk (fell off and believe it was a broken toe). Boat made it back intact in the end but obviously could have been a lot worse.
Also it was my wife’s FIRST trip ever. Her reasoning for never wanting to go with me prior had always been that she was scared of the boat sinking. Unbelievable lol! Glad to say she didn’t let that scare her away though and she now goes on every trip that I go on 🤙🏽

Chunky seas, but no worse than the good ol days of early season albacore fishing. No rocks there shallow enough to rip off the portside bow at or just below the waterline. Amazing if it passed annual inspection with any structural deterioration enough to fail that bad. Maybe a shipping container just under the surface and that sunk once hit? Or, my guess is a deadhead log. Can be just under the surface floating and bobbing vertically and so saturated it is about to sink, then plunk, bow gives and the log goes down deeper in the water column. Still, we may never know, I imagine it won't be salvaged from out there. Sad loss of a hard working vessel, great job by the Cap and crew making sure everyone got off unscathed.

Ok so the word is the boat was underway and hit something. I think while at anchor some of the planks or plywood separated slightly and opened up from the bow being under so much anchor line tension in rougher seas. Then while underway that wood ripped further open and tore off the boat. These planks /plywood were in the bow flare area and they were not noticed when the anchor was pulled. That sheet in the water floating that cracked off was the loud sound like hitting something. But you know opinions are like azzhls, everyone has one.
