Thanks! Those who shop and don't grow their own are called "Truckatarins"
A teaspoon of Flaxseeds (Linseeds) soaked overnight will become an excellent gel-like laxative
So does 2 - 4 dates a day, eaten with large carb meals.
Very informative. I appreciate your time in helping us think further along the lines.....
Personal waste is requires lateral thinking, but is not a serious hazard. Keep a stock of fine wood chips or sawdust. Keep the buckets with lids when you buy in bulk. Urine is kept separate from solids and is mixed 1:10 with water and your garden will thank you for watering it with the mixture.
Use the bucket, with a booster seat used by the elderly, for solids and cover with chips/sawdust. When full add a bit of water to moisten and clip closed. Put a date on the lid and store in a dark corner of the garden for a year. Use the compost in your garden - the ornamental part.
Yes, this will be a biggie if the grid collapse happens. Waste removal by water will stop, almost immediately.
I forgot to say that a bit of vermicompost or compost starter will speed up the process a bit.
Great info :)
Excellent presentation. Thanks!
Only a pleasure.
Very useful, thank you!
I live in a complex and have a ground floor flat with a small garden on the perimeter of several large blocks of flats. Once before the servitude along the side of my home was covered in excrement when the drains became blocked and it took several days for the council to come and clean this mess up and disinfect the area. I always keep lots of potted plants along this corridor, mostly flowers and succulents but also some vegetables and medicinal herbs. I spoke to my caretaker about this recently asking if I should put up a small wall between the servitude and my lawn and he said not to worry but I am worrying. Lack of water and overflowing sewage would be my main problems. If this became too bad I would have to evacuate.
You are not alone, I'd have a chat to friends and family ASAP and set up a process where they would take you in.
Offering to arrive with or even pre-position supplies is a great way to ensure they will look on your suggestion favorably.
All to often people think arriving with zero contribution will be acceptable.
many thanks 🙂

People, seeds, Veggies, chicken all needs water. Sourcing water from storage, fountain etc would be our no 1 priority. If you rely on municipal water, borehole etc these are unlikely to work in a grid collapse. Any innovative ideas to store and recycle water in such a situation as well as extended and utilizing your small water supply to the max. Specially in dry season where you cannot collect water from rain.
Yes, look at rain water harvesting, using pool water, have a chat to a neighbour with a borehole even water from your fish pond.
Use Berky / Stefani water filters and learn how to make bleach to disinfect water.
