Admire BMW for going public with tips to look out for when buying an old E34. Should do the other models, if you guys have the guts hahaha. Love this video!
Drove my 93 525iA across the country twice this year. From southern desert heat, to 9% grade, snow covered mountain roads in Utah, not one problem. Only about a quart of coolant was lost in 7,000 miles of driving. My Bilstein Touring struts provided such a smooth, yet responsive ride, I enjoyed every mile immensely.
BMWs channel has been hype recently, it is nice to see a mainstream car company dedicating a video to one old their old cars and not just the new stuff.
Shomy92zabjelo Yeah the NA's sound brilliant. It's a shame they use synthetic noise since the turbo 6's/V8's and V12's don't need it. They should atleast give the option to turn it off.
I completely agree with you. But you can actually turn the active sound system off by disconnecting a plug some in the boot. If you want to turn it back on (for whatever reason) you can plug it back in easily. I saw a video about when the M4 came out. I think it would be a cool if it turns off when you put the car in sport plus M-mode or something along those lines :)
The best looking and coolest 5 series ever made; the true heir of the E12. Timeless masterpiece of automotive engineering and car design. One of the greatest sportsaloon of all time
I bought with 1600 euros a 520i M-sport that needed almost a full rebuild. 7000 euros later it's in almost top condition, so it seems incredible to find one at a low price that doesn't need additional months of work and $$$.
Old friend, I miss my e34 dearly I now have an e38 which is an amazing vehicle aswell, just not as simple as the e34, I plan on owning another e34 in the near future though, there that good !
When BMW's where great cars to own. Now they are just great cars to lease only. Completely disposable, full of plastic parts, and short life turbo engines. Still the ultimate driving machine, just for a limited time.
Yep. Here in europe they are quite cheap. But only because they got produced here. Old American cars and japanese cars are really expensive most of the time
Are you kidding me I sold one for 5k, it had less than 200,000 km and 5 spd... No rust either (ontario), I regret it but they are really all over the place in Europe
I look forward to bringing my E46 touring back to the US from Germany, right now, I have been hunting for restoration parts and pieces to restore the car as much as possible before returning.
I used to have one of these, the more I think about it the more I regret selling it and the more I miss the mechanical feel of the E34 and the rev happy nature of the M50 engine. I might try and find another one and keep it as a summer car before prices go crazy.
And it will double that kilometers with ease. A friend of mine has a E34 525i wagon with 640.000 kilometers on it. it recently had the cylinder head revised because blue smoke out of the exhaust, that was the only major repair he had to do on it, other then that, just regular maintenance and frequent oil changes. Also these cars like to be driven, they need it, when they stand still in a garage as show piece, they go bad pretty quick.
215,000 miles on my '99 e39 Sport Touring, and the car is easy enough for me to maintain. Finding good German mfg. parts is essential and readily available on AMAZON. Of the 3 bimmers I own, it's my favorite. Thanks BMW!
had one total m5 swap but when i bought it s38 had gone .. . when you do it 6 cylinder then you can use many 6 cylinder units if need. . my 520 ( full m5) exept the engine never broke. due to a big float in last typhoon hit greece car stayed more than 2 days under water . cant handle the hours of fix it again so i think i go again for one this time no swaps no nothing , stock and ready
While do agree that i'm getting tired of the turbos instead of beautiful and fun sounding engines bmw has to change with the world. Also, bmw is selling more 3-series than ever since cars are becoming more affordable
Phil P, unfortunately, how the world changes in the car is changing, unfortunately I have to comply with other brands in order to compete, yes maybe new cars are faster, safer but I do not think they are more pleasurable.
otton lara, I love you, but now it is compulsory, maybe 5 years later, turbo engines will become searchable, the world changes, my friend, sorry, thanks for the comment.
So nice to see the e34 as a favourite among rally races. I want one so bad with a blue interior which is extremely rare. Maybe only in Canada but not many around 😒😤😭
The title says purchasing tips but the video is about the maintenance, endurance, and a story about some 3rd generation 5 series, not about tips to take note of when buying one.
I love the E34 5 series and I HATE the ugly new G30! Please do a retro modern resurrection of the E34 by building highly modernized version of E34! Put the newest and latest technology in the E34, such as B58 engine, newest 7 speed dual clutch transmission, strengthened chassis and modern airbags to achieve good crash ratings, every light bulb is LED, weight reduction of 100-200kg, carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. And general refinement in reliability and fuel economy. And I love both Alpina and M5, so combine the 2 cars into 1 car, the BMW M5 Alpina
I recently found a E34 525xi and the seller told it was 1 of 3000(gave me VIN so i can check and it really is) and was made for exhibition show in France with individual options and with all the extras. So my question is if this car deserves 5,000€ ?
well original parts in Germany are not so expensive... I know I owned an E34 520i and still own my E34 M5. Basic parts are available cheaply. But for 1400 Euro you normally just get crap. This BMW would be worth around 2400€ right now.
Original parts, or original OEM replacement parts. Like TRW is a brand that produces OEM BMW parts, wich are cheaper in price, and the same quality. I know because i use a lot of TRW on my E32 735i
If you were living in Turkey you were going to pay about 8000 to10.000 EUR for same car.
that is not really true, automatics are quite bulletproof with the E34 models. The thing you should do is, change the transmission fluid regularly every 100.000 km and the filter. The automatics likes fresh fluids and filters, this keeps them almost run forever. Except when you have one wich is drifted and abused during the lifetime of the car. torque converters clutch and pressure plates wear out much faster that way.

BMW E34 Touring = one of the best BMW's ever built!

Their new stuff sucks ass in quality.
Wow I did not expect this. More please!
BMW is like fine wine... it's better when it ages
Back when bmws cars didn't use lazy fake engine sound.
They just sounded naturally great
And it's sad.. The new ones don't even need it!
Shomy92zabjelo Yeah the NA's sound brilliant.
It's a shame they use synthetic noise since the turbo 6's/V8's and V12's don't need it. They should atleast give the option to turn it off.

1:30 you know he driving a BMW. The joy you get.
LOL, love BMW. Have a feeling they made this video coz it's the one they know they made right.
A proud owner of an e32 v8, got 400k on the counter and still going
iraqi carbon those are great and rare. V8s were only sold in the last 2 production years. Also looking much more agressive with the wider grill
i am a proud owner of an E32 735i individual executive from 1986 340.000 kilometers on it, and runs like a champ
i have an 1989 e32 730i and to broke to fix it whit 96 000miles on it
Fantastic video, and such a great tribute and reflection of the enthusiast following of the older models. Keep these coming!
I love bmw forever
BMW's every car is amazing.
about time I see the comment
Aha...... you sure aren't a mechanic...
My dad had a E34, I learned how to drive in it. It felt like driving on velvet.
Awesome throwback. Loved driving an E34 540i6, even though it had 300,000+kms it was an incredibly stout vehicle. Drove like it was on rails.
Love this video! Will bring alot of young people into the BMW-family!
I have an E34 540i and I love it to death! That M60 is such an amazing engine.
Love the video. Bought the car. So happy I'm looking for another.
I absolutely love to see the all wagon lineup.
I couldn’t be a car guy without my 525i touring
I bought with 1600 euros a 520i M-sport that needed almost a full rebuild. 7000 euros later it's in almost top condition, so it seems incredible to find one at a low price that doesn't need additional months of work and $$$.

Those Royal days for bmw 😘😍😘
This is my favourite gen of the 5 series. The last straight 6 m5 too!
I love this gen!
Make one for the E39!
Shomy92zabjelo Yup, I have a 540i6 with 216k on the clock. They have their issues but are great overall cars.
Plz do! i have e39 540
im pretty sure they already did
DOOM Slayer true......…
the most reliable e39's are the 6 cylinder ones.
When BMW's where great cars to own. Now they are just great cars to lease only. Completely disposable, full of plastic parts, and short life turbo engines. Still the ultimate driving machine, just for a limited time.
1400€ wtf that car would be like 8k in canada i need to scoop one quick
@@jameswatsoniksis2399 for 1500 euros in croatia e34 bmws are rusted, with 300+ k km and terribly maintained
I got an e34 540 i 6 spd manual for only $1200 here in australia. Best purchase of my life
8k in Norway too
I look forward to bringing my E46 touring back to the US from Germany, right now, I have been hunting for restoration parts and pieces to restore the car as much as possible before returning.
A month from now will be my 10th year anniversary with my e34 525 tds & for me the e34 M Technic is still the most beautiful car.
Rally team = 2 hipsters
BlitzkriegRap 4
E36 next please!!
Now I am actually thinking of. buying a black 518i
I own a 2001 e46 325xi wagon and this is next on my list.
That's great! We which colour do you prefer? :)
on my second one. best car ever. wish bmw still made them like this
We're glad you like it, Andrew!
Love my e34
I used to have one of these, the more I think about it the more I regret selling it and the more I miss the mechanical feel of the E34 and the rev happy nature of the M50 engine. I might try and find another one and keep it as a summer car before prices go crazy.
370K's on a '94 530i, still going...
I have over 393 500 km on my year 2000 E38 730d, using it as a daily driver.
I love mine and wouldn’t sell it unless it was to buy another one
215,000 miles on my '99 e39 Sport Touring, and the car is easy enough for me to maintain. Finding good German mfg. parts is essential and readily available on AMAZON. Of the 3 bimmers I own, it's my favorite. Thanks BMW!
What bommer have you owned, and how would you rate them?
E34 M5 the best😎
I should Definitely buy one now
Wish the prices of the car would still be the same today :(
had one total m5 swap but when i bought it s38 had gone .. . when you do it 6 cylinder then you can use many 6 cylinder units if need. . my 520 ( full m5) exept the engine never broke. due to a big float in last typhoon hit greece car stayed more than 2 days under water . cant handle the hours of fix it again so i think i go again for one this time no swaps no nothing , stock and ready
E34 94 with 148 thoasand miles got it at 19 as my first car Im slowing getting it into its prime yrs its my daily rn
Expert checked the bushing and wiring of tailgate, but not the engine, transmission and also condition of sls system (if there)...
Hello BMW, unfortunately you have finished the organic feelings of those old cars in new cars and new cars will never be as popular as the old ones.
Ayberk Sener I agree, but times have changed and companies have to change also. At least these cars are still out there!
Ayberk Sener give them 20 years. I bet you'll be wrong.
So nice to see the e34 as a favourite among rally races. I want one so bad with a blue interior which is extremely rare. Maybe only in Canada but not many around 😒😤😭
I have a 525i blue interior in Dominican republic but its all worn out :(
Nice lol. Do want.
this is something that BMW would not do on there newer cars
Very nice!
We LOVE the third generation BMW 5 Series here at Butler-HQ, In fact, Our channel is based on this mode of BMW :)
id love to seek out the ultra rare 4x4 touring
good car.
Thank you
good video
E46 Please!!!!
The title says purchasing tips but the video is about the maintenance, endurance, and a story about some 3rd generation 5 series, not about tips to take note of when buying one.
I didn't have a "BMW Classic" technician to fix all the problems with mine.
Is that Sips narrating? e34 M5 owner btw :)
i cant watch this video the same way anymore
I want one. Like so badly :(
Go get one ;)
Bmw 😍😍😍

So many engines..which one was the best bang for buck.....speed not required?
the m50b25 in the 525 from 92- is one of the best engines ever
Thanks Firren72
I recently found a E34 525xi and the seller told it was 1 of 3000(gave me VIN so i can check and it really is) and was made for exhibition show in France with individual options and with all the extras.
So my question is if this car deserves 5,000€ ?
absolutely, it is an ix wich means it has AWD, wich is quitte rare, not many E34's where an ix version
😍#BMW #Dream💕🖤
How to buy a "Lasanha" as we say here at Brazil
Imagine if bmw starting making these again
34-ка прекрасна. Почему так обделили вниманием Е32?
It’s already claimed your heart with its mighty presence and 400hp 5-cylinder engine. Bmw 😍
5 cylinder? There's no 5 cylinder 5 series..
Jones Nobs je sais ça
BMW never ever have made 5 cilinders lol
My old 535i liked to run on only 5 when I got it 😂
"original parts to be used on a 1500 euro car". AHAHHHAHHAH i loughed so hard.
well original parts in Germany are not so expensive... I know I owned an E34 520i and still own my E34 M5. Basic parts are available cheaply. But for 1400 Euro you normally just get crap. This BMW would be worth around 2400€ right now.

But is it safe?
Nikola Tasevski safer than a volvo 4 sure
E34 was pretty safe for its time.
haha those tips, may be in germany they are still good, but the main thing the body rusts all over
Ulan, Türkiye'de en az 35 40 bini vardı o arabanın. Ayakkabı parasına biniyorlar güzelim arabalara... If you were living in Turkey you were going to pay about 8000 to10.000 EUR for same car.
can you just build them again BMW :D
along with the e30 :D
i'd fucking give my right nut for a brand new 525i M50 non vanos :D
Nice example of a E34 for 1400 Euro? I wish ;p
Guide to buying an old BMW. If it runs and leaks a bunch of oil your set.
bad head gaskets though
0:22 sec what is that shit!? That is the devil.
I'm Mercedes Benz fan 😂
💜🌟💜🌟💜👍👍
E34 and E39.. only BMW's capable of doing 1 million kilometers
iksio btw they are the prettiest bmw's
E36 too
Why there is a shitty mercedes Logo?
Just don't get an automatic, they have a reasonably shorter transmission lifespan.
that is not really true, automatics are quite bulletproof with the E34 models. The thing you should do is, change the transmission fluid regularly every 100.000 km and the filter.
