Trust your instincts….. you are doing a great job at interpreting what’s happening. Yes blurryface -the red cloaked character- represents doubt, insecurities etc. The black on his neck & hands represent that doubt in his singing & writing. The people on the cliffs are the banditos- family & friends , those that support you. And you were correct in jumpsuit- it’s the ‘armour’ you put on to feel safe, protect yourself, hide your anxiety etc. Can’t wait for the next reaction
the guy in the red is Nico (also known as Blurryface) - he is in charge of the city of Dema along with 8 other bishops (Nico and the Niners) - basically they want to control everyone in the city and trap them so those people aren't able to think for themselves Clancy (lead singer, Tyler in real life, but Clancy for the story) is trying to escape Dema (a metaphor for conquering his bad thoughts/insecurities/etc) - in this video, he's awoken in a new place after the car crashed - this place is "Trench" which is the continent where the city of Dema is located in this video, Nico tries to bring Clancy (Tyler) back to the city; the Banditos (good guys) are in yellow, encouraging Clancy to escape - he makes a run for it but is tracked down and now is being dragged back to the city of Dema - when the next video starts, he will be once again trapped in the city of Dema "you'll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air" and "you'll have to tie me down and then break both my hands" - meaning in order for these bishops or bad thoughts to keep him down, they'll have to take away his ability to write and perform music the meaning of the Jumpsuit is basically anything that helps cover you from your problems, so someone's "Jumpsuit" could be anything: friends/family/religion/working out/reading/etc - he sings about a new place in the song, which is a double meaning - a new place, Trench where he's just found himself as well as this was their first single after they became worldwide stars with the success of the Blurryface album, the pressure of the new success really weighed on them and they had to take a year hiatus where they just completely disappeared from everything and no one knew when/if they would be back to make more music there's a ton to break down in this story, but that should give you a good idea also, they just started their US tour for their album that just came out - best live show you'll ever see!
David: I want to watch the next one right now SAME!!! I REALLY WANT TO WATCH YOUR NEXT REACTION RIGHT NOW CAUSE YOU GUYS ARE DOING GOOD. I LOVE YOUR REACTION
loving your reactions to these guys! there's a lot of additional info that the band released seperately to the music videos to help explain whats going on. A summary is that in this video Tyler has used the car crash to escape from Dema (a grey city ruled by 9 bishops, which represents being trapped in mental health struggles) out into Trench (name of the album and the continent, represented by the colour green) but is being chased by the leader of the bishops, Blurryface/Nico (represented by the colour red) who uses Tyler's insecurities to bring him under his control again as he leads him back. When Nico is controlling Tyler he puts black paint on his neck and hands (feels most insecure about the music he makes with his hands and the words he says). The banditos (rebels who have already escaped Dema and who represent Tyler's support system, including the drummer Josh) throw him yellow flowers (the bishops can't see the colour yellow so it is a symbol of resistance and alliance to the rebels), which give him hope and motivate him to run away from Nico but he ends up tripping and is captured again. Sorry that's a lot of info!
So glad to see yall jump back in. Your thoughts on the symbolism are very good. Don't doubt. The cool thing with them is that they have told this story in 3 different layers: the general idea through the music videos, the more fleshed out one in the full albums- using songs that didn't get a video, and lastly through the internet, hidden websites, journal entries, fan arg, and a livestream experience. There are lots of levels to it, which is brilliant because it allows the folks who ate really into it to dig deep. Always really enjoy the music of yours that u play ❤ Can't wait for more
Let's goooo!!!! I'm so excited for you to go down this rabbit hole, and I am here for all of it! This video originally dropped out of the blue, after a whole year's radio silence from them on social media. And Tyler (the lead singer) had never leaned so much into playing the bass before, as I believe he really just started learning it during the making of this album. In that context, what an absolute revelation, and a breathtaking introduction to this world he's built! I absolutely cannot wait for you to see the rest of this story unfold (you did an amazing job grasping what's going on!), and I promise you are in for the ride of a lifetime!!!
so glad you like their music, as a TOP fan myself it makes me really happy to see, that you‘re enjoying it this much even though you didn‘t dive into all the lore yet (which will make the music even better!!) And you got so much right, i love seeing that you‘re both really into it! Makes my heart happy tbh
Ok, you need to watch “I am Clancy” video. They tried to explain the lore in that 4min video But if u want to understand more, I’ll write a bit more below (attention - a lot of words): so basically you saw connection between two concept albums of Twenty one pilots (TOP), first one - blurryface and second one - trench some definitions that should help you: Blurryface - main character in the album. He represents Tyler's (singer and songwriter) insecurities , kinda Tyler's alter-ego. Tyler usually wears black paint on his hands and neck during his live shows and music videos for the albums to represent Blurryface and his own insecurities. In Tyler’s case he is not sure in his music ( hands - music instruments , neck - words he is saying(lyrics), voice). Nico (man in red from the Jumpsuit mv ) - blurryface physical form, main bishop in the Trench album. Dema - represents a place (city), where Nico has jurisdiction over Tyler, which means a place where your insecurities controls you. It’s more like psychological place in your own head where you are trying to battle with your own insecurities/ depression.. Trench is the place in-between this control and "freedom" . Banditos - a rebel organization. They are trying to rescue the people trapped in Dema and trying to help them to Leave The City of Dema. Red color - blurryface era (depression, insecurities, bishops) Yellow color - trench era (hope and support system -your family, friends..) Decoding for the mv in order of the story (spoilers, but without them it's really hard to understand): heavydirtysoul - In this video one of the bishops is driving Tyler from Dema while repeatedly trying to kill Josh(drummer).Josh is trying to stop him and help Tyler . While those hard drumming comes in - it helps Tyler to take some control , cuz with every hit of drums - car is start to fall over. At the last minute Tyler take over the control and saves Josh - but Josh's drums are still catching fire, because Tyler’s problems affect everyone around him even if he doesn't hit them physically.... in the end - it starts all over again the next day... A constant loop of hurting the people you love because of your inner demons. Jumpsuit - the guy in red is Nico . When he touched Ty's neck he get him under his control (black paint on his neck). The people up on the cliff are the banditos, wearing yellow tape, who are trying to save Ty ( represents his family and friends , that give him support(yellow flowers). In the end of the video last man on the cliff is Josh. Nico and the niners - So in this video Ty is planning his escape once again (symbol of it - yellow color and this flower in the beginning, from the end of jumpsuit, also you can see that it's bunch of flowers, so it’s not the first attempt ). In the end of this video - he unexpectedly meets banditos who get back for him. And he is saying “we’ll win but not everyone will get out” - meaning not everyone will be saved from a suicidal attempt. Levitate - in the end of video Nico grabs Tyler once again . A constant loop like in Heavydirtysoul - but here you can see more clearly like anytime your mood can slide back to the depression mental state. You can find hole storyline on their official channel named “twenty one pilots- the story”
You guys are doing so well with this. A few things that will help because we the fans had the benefit of other sources of info about the story at this point: 1. Yes the whole story takes place in the same universe. 2. Yes it is a representation of the inside of Tyler's mind, his mental health. Keep thinking metaphorically and symbolically 3. The place this takes place is called Trench. In Trench there is a city called Dema. 4. Yes the people throwing petals represent Tyler support network. They are called Banditos. 5. The hooded figure is a Bishop. His name is Nico aka Blurryface. He is Tyler's struggles personified. Keep going!
That's Josh on top hill, and friends. Red guy is his dark side. Coat is his protection from darkness BUT THAT WERE GETS HIS MUSIC FROM...Its all him!!! ❤ reaction to my favorite duo TOP!!!
I think that you're right about another dimension: for me it represents what happened in Tyler's mind, his inner world. The city of Dema is a place full of restrictions, and it grows insecurities in its citizens like Clancy/Tyler, and it praise death as a culmination of their lives. Other place is a wild part of continent where you could express yourself, but it dangerous and you could easily lost there and die without your friends like Torchbearer/Josh. So mind become a place where you could choke yourself with restrictions, and in the other hand where you could get mad of a freedom. For me Trench continent and its story is about to learning how to live with your own mind.
there is only one deviation, there is a livestream concert they did that's part of the storyline right after levitate MV. however, it's not available to stream legally anywhere for now, because it was a one time release. you could probably watch it on your own and give your thoughts and theories before you react to saturday MV.
My non-lore take on the video is that it represents depression. You got it when you said how the people on the ridge are there to help him, but can only do so from afar. They almost managed to get Tyler to escape, but it didn’t last long. Watch out for the yellow flowers at the start of the next one.
Love you reactions but you guys are focusing a lot on the visuals and music sound. deep dive and dissect the lyrics. It’ll really blow your mind and make sense
Bro everyone gets Tyler nd Josh mixed up at first but why didn't anyone tell you guys to watch ode to sleep first because that makes it very very clear, surprised the "fans" here didn't say anything..
"he's Navigating through somewhere."
hell yeah

Love these TOP reactions you guys are going through. Nate, I like that MV of yours, gonna go check it out right now.
i love watching people react to them like this while barely knowing anything. its great. so much for them to still discover
