    The saddest thing about Hendrix was that he was just getting started. Although he blew minds with his guitar playing, he was still finding his feet as an artist and songwriter by the time he died. We'll never fully comprehend his loss.

    I really think you should review a classic album, at least, every month or more. I think that with your fanbase and your musical experience, you should expose them to more classic albums that shaped in a very strong way our culture, our ideas, our mentality and, most importantly, music in a broad way. You can’t understand what the present moment in music or in any art form is, without having a basic notion of the past, that led us to that moment. Its the moment of the year that i praise your work the most. Keep up with the good work, Anthony. Have a Good year!

    Great review Anthony!!! Hendrix is one of my fav artists ever and my fav guitarist ever!!! Loved how unorthodox, innovative, unique, melodic and beautiful sounding his music was, how is music wasn't overly complex, but still was complex and his vibe only, other artists could try to recreate Hendrix's sound, but his style is irreplaceable!! I also loved Jimi's work with The Band Of Gypsy's!! Loved the elements of Soul/Funk/Jazz!! Looking forward to see which classic you review next!!

    Three words: "House Burning Down". My son who is an accomplished musician, still can't figure how Jimi managed to get those incredible sounds from his guitar.
    EL was recorded in 1968. Nobody even after fifty-four years has managed to replicate the sounds or the music. That's far ahead of the game Jimi was.
    His death is the greatest tragedy in the history of rock music.

    I discovered Hendrix in my teens, in the late 90s. Started with the Experience Hendrix hits collection, then progressed to the official releases, respectively. Naturally, Are You Experienced couldn't be topped in my opinion for a long time, as punchy pop-rock songs was what I primarily came to Hendrix for. It wasn't until I was in my 20s and experimenting with psychedelics for the first time that I really heard Electric Ladyland and its greatness finally revealed to me. Before this, I simply lacked the attention span or patience to digest the album. Now, I not only regard Electric Ladyland as Hendrix's magnum opus, but also I consider it one of the greatest albums of all time, of any artist, of any genre, of any era.

    Just wanna say, can we talk about how not only is Jimi the greatest guitarist ever, one of the most visionary and influential musicians, one of the greatest performers ever, but I think what goes underrated is he’s an amazing song writer. He has this way of making his lyrics feel visceral, textured, in a way most artists just don’t get. Not to mention he goes crazy creative on how to cover a song. No one could cover a song the way Jimi could.

    I responded to a let’s argue tweet saying some of the mixes of this album aren’t great. I then deleted it because I realized how much live mixing needed to be done and with an album like this you’re gonna choose the magic captured in a studio performance over the quality of a live mix

    • @thirtyyearoldmulberryfield
      @thirtyyearoldmulberryfield 2 года назад +3

      It also doesn’t help that Jimi was insecure about his vocals, so he would usually bury his voice in the mix. But for me, songs like the title track and “House Burning Down” really show his capabilities as a singer.

    • @corybarnes2341

      He put some stuff out of phase, like 180 degrees out of phase. Vinyl can't reproduce that, so they had to mono some of it in the mastering stage. There was a later remastered version released on cd that was taken from the mix tapes. A lot of experimentation going on sometimes for better or worse from a fidelity perspective. It was very interesting and of it's time though. You certainly hear the human energy on this stuff in ways you don't hear very often in the age of "perfection" via auto-tune and quantization through digital editing.
