When you look at the quality of players Scotland had at this time it is no real surprise they could beat Eng at Wembley. Law, Baxter, Greig, Bremner and Lennox etc were all top class.
I was at this amazing match and must say that Scotland thoroughly deserved their victory. Denis Law was everywhere but Jim Baxter was by far the best player on the pitch and probably gave England the complete and utter run around!!
Was thinking the same. What a save from the great Gordon Banks from a sublime chip by Denis Law. Both world class players and humble gents of the game.
Aye, one of my late fathers great memories, oft brought up when England and 1966 were mentioned. I was fortunate to meet and have a wee dram back at the “Keepers house” with Jackie Charlton when he was up in NE Scotland on a fishing holiday, I mentioned this game, he just looked at the floor and smiled, “ buggers man, we could do nowt aboot it”.....great man and great game.
I was at the game...a great win forever important in my life. Still have the match ticket. 10 years later we won again and I was on the pitch with my Malaysian wife..2 months after our wedding. Hugh McCaw was also at the game. .
For three years, till1970 when Brasil took the Cup back, the Scots claimed that by winning this game they had become the World Champions. England beat the Scots 4-1 in 1969, but the Scots said that that was just a local tournament, practically a "friendly" they said.
The 1967 World Cup was the best. It doesn't get anyway near as much coverage as the one the year before. Tofiq Bahramov was a very wealthy man that year
A magnificent film material... What a names Charlton Banks Ufff 😮 It's the same film house 🎥 of Shaun the lamb, Wallace & Gromit ? Saludos desde México 🇲🇽
Playing England is a world cup final for the home nations Denis Law was happy to earn his money at Man U but hated England, he had to go out for a walk when England were winning in the final !!!
Hate to say it but going on this evidence the Scots looked like they were worthy winners. Of course the fact that England were world champions really gave Scotland that extra incentive to get one over on England. They were the first team to beat England since they won the world cup and they must have really relished that win.
What’s forgotten is that from early in the first half England were virtually playing with 10 men Jackie Charlton sustained a broken toe and was a virtual passenger on the left wing for the rest of the game, and there were no subs then. It still didn’t stop England scoring the goal of the game ironically through Charlton after a move going the length of the field straight after Baxter’s arrogant keepy ups went wrong. All conveniently forgotten though.
very fair point, however, Jackie still managed to cross into the box once or twice, so not TOTALLY 10 men, but I see what you mean, however, for Scotland to beat the reigning world champions at that time is still impressive.

Aye and the buggers only won the WC with dumb luck. If you want to see a TRUE British victory against foreigners, check Celtics' win over Inter in the European Cup Final.
If they'd been more humble and prepared they could have beaten Feyenoord. I get depressed at that one. They beat Leeds, the English champions. A lot of Scots in the Leeds side too. All gone downhill now.
@@infrasleep Calm deeen wee Jocko. England beat some good teams in 66. Eusebio, Beckenbauer and co. Celtics 67 magnificent win with local lads will never be repeated sadly by any club. England weren't really fielding their best side to be honest as they played the same team from the World Cup,players that were probably out of form and carrying injuries
@@alasdairduncan3796 Facts and excuses are two different things. Ramsey was fielding a team that had their 15 minutes of fame a year before. If Ramsey had left straight after the World Cup a different manager would have probably fielded 1967s best side and not 1966s.
As great as this Scotland team was, if the Scotland manager ( Bobby Brown ) had fielded the Eurpean Cup winners ( Celtic ) the final score would have been a lot higher . And I am not a Celtic fan .. ( Gers ).⁶

Scotland is back again and will beat england

banks's save from Denis Law was every bit as good as his save from Pele in 1970 in my opinion
Absolutely correct if Banks had not saved that game was over. Toss up between Banks n Shilton who was the best keeper
Was thinking the same. What a save from the great Gordon Banks from a sublime chip by Denis Law. Both world class players and humble gents of the game.
It was an outstanding save
possibly better

God bless
Alan Ball of England and Everton showed his great dribbling skills in this match clip.
He's England's number 7.
Incredible to think they could make a video like this and not show/mention the "managers" even once. What a time to be alive.
I was at the game...a great win forever important in my life.

Third age fans really enjoyed that result. I like it. Surely waited for long to beat their rivals. Great video
Huh?? Scotland had won the corresponding fixture in 1962, 1963 & 1964.
Hard to believe now but in 1967 neither Germany or Italy had ever beaten England in 16 attempts between them.
You mean west Germany
This was the game that made Scotland world champions!!😂😂
Grande Law que jugador
Quality and legends in both teams.
Proper football with world class players on both sides.

This doesn't show the Scots showboating and doing keepy uppies down the wing in the second halve. Must be the English edit.
Quite a sharp picture for '67 compared to thers
Because it's transferred from the original film and not film as seen through TV
So did that mean that were world champions after that game 😁who could forget the keepy up and Baxter and Law running the show 🏴👍
@X yeah I know, there wasn't much of a challenge that day 😁🏴👍
Poor Scotland it is there only big moment in history and that was just a hiccup for England.
Law scored with an impossible header at Hampden in ' 66 when we got beat 3-4.
I was there, Jimmy Johnstone scored twice, (2 for the numpties).
My Dad was there. Every time i mention an important game in Scotland : "Ah was at that game". Rangers and Fiorentina, Celtic and Leeds.
wow...great quality. Thanks...though a different result would have been nice :)
That game made us the unofficial world champions 💪🏴

Scotland 🏴 had a seriously good team i think they might of beaten lots of international teams 👍
Criminal not to show Baxter's keepy-uppies for the third goal.

1st defeat in 20 internationals for England.
Baxters Wembley 😍

10 years after they've invaded the pitch, its always funny to see england lose in football.
Scots goalkeeper not a total liability for a change. Naughty of the Scots not to field a Kennedy or Roughie for a game against England.
Certainly not when you consider he picked up a European cup winners medal a few weeks later.
We played Frank Haffey celtic keeper and lost 9 -3 😡
What would be your historical ideal 11 in the history of Scottish football?

Every now again the Scots have there bannockburn. Probaly raised there game by 200 per cent
