Definitely more the case for Dota than in League where champs like Yasuo, Yone, and Sylas exist! But I do agree-as a midlaner, you’re the star up until your pos 1 carry can delete people in just 4 seconds. And if it gets to the point where he can do that, you’ve done your job!

I remember entering a phase of playing only KOTL in DOTA2, which tends to mean getting the mid almost every game. That was somehow the very first time I took interest in the whole skins and sets situation, especially since KOTL has a very simple but pretty iconic Gandalf-style wide-brim hat on offer in the available line of sets at the time. Didn't take long for me to NOT ONLY pick up the hat, but to also start mixing and matching skin pieces like we hitting fashion week. Can't really say it's the sole reason I manage to get experience playing KOTL, but it sure is cool seeing Gandalf vaporizing heroes with one quick Dagon shot
“If you don’t think you’re a bad bitch who else will??” - me, a mage main. As a midlaner main, I agree we have one of the biggest egos. It’s actually mandatory and necessary to have it to compete in mid lane tbh.
If we are talking about the average ranked lobby in league, the mid laner probably has the most skill just because it’s the most popular role, but jungle and support have more impact on the game. From my experience the roles with the most potential to be the deciding factor of winning or losing from greatest to least impact are jg, sup, mid, and then adc and top are kinda even (top does better in lower elo while adc does better in higher elo).
Junglers and Pos 4 in Dota are definitely X-factors, especially the former if they can secure/steal objectives reliably. I also think you meant to type Toplaner, which does feel like they have the least impact until they’re up 3-0 on their role opponent and start taking their snowball elsewhere.
Adc is above mid in agency atm in league, rest of your list is correct except jungle and support are tied for first imo. There is 0 agency in mid anymore tbh, jungle and support dictate all the moves you can make and it's just a question of who plays off these two better.
@@kwoltekublai3337 I don't actually have the patience for ranked these days lmao Though I last calibrated Ancient in Dota and Gold in League (just to get victorious skin lmao)
As a Support main, this is going to encourage me to target the enemy midlaner even harder than I already do to facilitate maximum mental boom. One good hook is all it takes to initiate the tilting phase. UwU
Not for a moba, but for shooters I have a warm up. I'll do 5-10 of an aim trainer, shoot at a wall in the game for x number of bullets in different positions to get comfortable w/ recoil control/movement/sensitivity/tracking a dummy target, and 1-2 rounds of a tdm to practice on live targets, and start playing. Even if I play bad after, my confidence would be high and it was a really easy source to maintain confidence resilience. Breaking the ritual would really hit my confidence, regardless of how well I played after, so I try not to even if my friends are condescending about it bc they might be forced to wait - if only to preserve good mental.
My pre-game ritual is usually exiting off the game or alt+tabbing to watch a funny video completely unrelated to the game I'm playing before going back a few minutes later to pick a random hero and trying it out in practice lobbies for a few seconds before queueing up lmao. The difference in my performance was Honestly shocking ever since I started doing it as I now average like 70%+ WR in about 200 matches(since I don't have all the time in the world to grind 🤣).
@@Acex2ron I honestly wouldn't recommend it if you're grinding since the pre-game stuff takes more time than the game itself sometimes but yeah, I think it's pretty effective in resetting my mind after a game(whether that's a win or a huge loss). Now, I feel like ranking up is just a breeze lmao. Note: The added benefit of being untilt-able in any match is honestly really great. After all, you carry out the good vibes and expel all the bad vibes you had last game.
Nah as the Legendary Jenkins said about offlane is "offlane are the biggest idiots in all of dota they want to be like a core but they themselves don't want to farm"
Love ur content u r the one that ACTUALLY plays and REALLY understands both games and I can feel that ur closely inside both of the communities . Pls do more.
I usually do this for a warmup in League. Load a practice game with a Lux bot (Medium diff) on the enemy team. Go botlane (that's where lux will go) and just try to farm perfectly without using spells to last hit. You can't back, you can't interact with Lux, just try to dodge her spells and keep the wave in a neutral state. It might seem easy but as soon as she gets a minion or HP advantage over you she becomes extremely agressive and zones you off of creeps, so there is little room for mistake. Do this until 4:30 minutes (4:30 wave is the last wave you're allowed to farm). Here you have some reference points to evaluate your performance: -Total number of creeps including the 4:30 wave is 44. So 44 cs would he a perfect score -40+ is great -35-39 is really good -30-35 is okay-ish -25-29 is not good enough -Less than 25 means that you really need to work on your last hitting since in a real game you will have to balance all of that while dealing with a real oponent and trying to harass them. You can make it easier by allowing spells to last hit or more difficult by not buying any starter items
Idk, i always had nothing on midlaners on dota. They are strong and they are important but i think that pos 5 and carry does way more. Of course winning mid could make or break the game but i feel that there are a lot of things that are more important like a well timed pos5 ult/gank or your carry being online and i think that midlane works more as a catalist of those things than really being a difference maker most of the time.
Yeah It's not really always the midlane anymore especially during the recent meta when the playstyle gives off more value on offlane even It always depends on more on the hero pick because no way a farming midlane hero is the one setting up the tempo
I’ve covered this topic partly in my first video! But my initial thoughts would be that the Dota team designed it so that team resource management would play a role in deciding the outcome of games!
@Acex2ron oh cool I will check it out. Also yeah that seems pretty appropriate. Also the whole way the creeps spawn is different though I don't know if that came before or after the league jungle role emerged
wow I didn't know that in the league you "can't" take your jungler camp, since dota uses a farming priority system, pos 3 (off lane) or 4 (soft sup) kinda automatically give their farm either for pos 2 or main carry, hell I even, as a mid lane would just find a new camp to farm if our carry is near
Junglers have priory all the time, it is acceptable for the adc to take a camp occasionally after 25+ mins (by occasionally I mean if ur split pushing top they can take krugs, which are far away and likely respawned) however mid laners taking camps is a no no, they already get loads more xp and gold way more than jg gets so it would be incredibly rude and greedy, (fuck that yone who full cleared my jungle after I stole drake)
Personally, it really depends on what Jungler you’re playing. If I’m on Yi or Hecarim, I’d prefer if my laners stay away from my camps. If I’m playing Rammus? By all means, take my Krugs and Raptors, I’m too busy camping their Yasuo to take it anyway
@@Antidote-hx7ifthey definitely don't get as much gold. If you're playing right as a jungle in soloQ and prioritizing yourself, you won't fall behind. It's just general common decency to not deny your own team farm.
This was SURPRISINGLY very interesting. I never thought about the ego thing until you said it. I have been binge watching your dota and LoL comparison videos.. and im ending on this one. AND BOY am I glad to end on this one.
I used to play a lot of Dota 2 in my late teens/early twenties and that last point about playing against an opponent who doesn't know what to expect of your gameplan rings extra true to me. I loved playing unlikely/weird mids with my absolute favourite being Oracle - on release nobody expected a hero considered as a hard support, to be playing mid/solo off and that's the only thing I did. I already knew how to play against most mids, while my opponents were usually dumbfounded at the aggressive playstyle and pretty much handed me kills for free by going out of position during my power spikes - if you don't know what the enemy is capable of and have no reference sheet for his scaling, you won't know how to prevent yourself getting annihilated in two seconds from an attack you should've seen coming. I don't really play Dota anymore but I revisit it occasionally and the difference between how people used to approach a support on mid back then and now is night and day. It's been years since Oracle's release, so most players understand his nuking potential and play it safe on the lane; while originally I would get dozens of opportunities for kills in an average match, later on that number steadily decreased down to about the usual for a nuker mid. I'm still sad they removed extra physical damage on Fate's Edict. That nerf singlehandedly killed his solo offlane potential, but at least he was still a viable (though risky) mid last I played.
this video is exactly what I've thought before, but then ive seen some dota coaches videos and many of them say that "mid is not the most important role/position/player on the team, the carry is. the main goal of mid is to create space for their carry." that's why mid heroes are usually strong early and mid, when carries are strong mid/late. was kinda eye opening for me, since mid players usually only think about themselves
Tbh these days mid can feel like just as much of a carry role, generally not in the same way the 1 role is, but it still is. Providing heavy amounts of control and a serious amount of damage compared to a fuckton of damage and maybe 1 good utility spell - like, both are important. Sometimes the mid even does a ridiculous amount of damage lategame too, like OD/TA 6 slotted refresher invoker is going to run over a team with the amount of control and utility he provides, puck has easy access to backline to prevent supports from actually playing the game along with serious damage to contend with as well. What you said reflects more traditional dota
@@1nhumanewastaken right I’m saying mid is at least as important as carry generally, the “carry is the most important role” is an older way of thinking
Invoker is what League champs aim for. Low skill floor. Cold snap, alacrity and forge spirits is a very low minimum skill required to be functional playstyle. Using invokers entire skill set while farming, ganking, keeping mid lane pressure, avoiding ganks and using 8 skill shot spells with unique interactions and 2 point and click spells. Invoker is the closest you can get to meepo levels of micro and skill ceiling whilst still being pick up and play.
You want some small Tips for Ori? Maybe I can help a little: When you are near the max range of your ball it might be better to just step over the line so it pops back to you instantly and moving it from your position instead of moving it all the way. You can max W first to get much better burst/short trades and Waveclear. The CD of your Q will be a bit higher but you will have quiet a lot more damage in your poke. Remember that your E deals damage when passing through something. So you wanna put your ball behind the enemy and recal it to deal a little more damage. Also comes in handy when clearing waves. The CD on your E is not that short. So remember that you can just use Q to move the ball on top of you if you wanna pick it up. That way you will still have the E to put it onto an ally. Oh and youir ball wont pop back to you while you are casting your are. So you can use R while for example Nocturne is flying out of range with his R and if you time it correctly the R will hit his target even if its to far away normaly. Just takes a while to get used to. (I didnt see you do it but if you ever consider getting Malignance dont. It procs on the first frame of Ori R so you will move the enemy out of the zone with your R)
I played some rakan mid back in the day, and let me tell you, you absolutely do some crazy shyt as a midlaner. Like you can basically do whatever you want if you're good enough.
the staying alive part of an adc is much more complex than it looks, as an adc main in a teamfight am like a paranoic scared guy calculating every angle enemy asasin could use to kill me in less than a second. and in late game it can mean most of the time winning or loseing the game, so yes is not so complex in general but a mistake in a teamfight can lose the game.
I hear you. I just dislike how the role is also heavily reliant on another player (your support) which is why I would say Mid needs a stronger ego, whereas ADC must have some of that ego while also being able to play around his team (when it should really be his teammate playing around him) to maximize his effectiveness.

To be fair, mid lane responsibilities in LoL are more closely attributed to the pos4/5's. They are the jungler, support, and mid lane but without the ego to match
hello mr ace I really love your content. i played both games for a while myself and one of my confusions when im pivoting to league from dota was the absence of TP scrolls. I think the biggest risk in diving the enemy tower on dota is the ever present threat of enemy counter initiation by just bringing sheer numbers in mere seconds compared to just being dead in 2 tower hits. i would like to see your opinion on your future videos. cheers
The 25% chance to miss uphill is balancing for Ranged vs Melee hero's. Ranged hero's can of course deny and last hit from a distance. Melee hero's have to be close to get the Cs. So since you can drag creeps hg you can nerf their harass damage by 25%. It's the same reason why Melee hero's have an inate chance to block a small portion of attack damage. To avoid Ranged hero's being so dominant
as a dota 2 player who played midlane for 6 years and recently change role to soft support (because i feel old and my reflexes are not that good anymore lol ) i find the hardest part of midlane is fight for last hit and denied.
Your videos have made me want to try and learn dota, I'm a mid lane assassin player, primarily katarina and talon, are there any champs in dota that you'd recommend? I don't mind putting time into a difficult champ.
Gladly! The assassin playstyle in this game is kind of limited to Carries instead of the Mid role. But if you like high mobility champions with huge outplay potential to be played in the midlane, I would recommend Queen of Pain or Puck. They’re more on the magical side but they play around weaving in and out of fights, and dealing big damage and just generally being a pest.
@@Acex2ron will look at all of these recommendations, do you suggest watching videos before i try jumping into the game, and if so any creators you recommend, or is it best to just go play and learn as i go?
In very early league you used to be able to deny minions like in dota 2, but it was (un)fortunately removed in alpha week 2 2009. Therefore dota 2 requires more skill than league
As far as prep goes i play Singed so i load up a 3 hour eurobeat mix called "eurobeat mix for winning at video games" and i win at video games (or meet some hard counter and feed my ass off and don't queue ranked for a week).
I am an Aurelion Main (I do play quite a few other champs, but the majority of my games is on ASol) and I recently reached Master for the first time (in flex, dont judge, I have friends). I could not play by myself though, I really need the moral support of playing with at least one friend. Even if we are both getting run over in a game, it feels much more bearable that way. Since I play a champ that scales well into the late game, my friends have accepted that them losing in the early minutes of a game is not a sign that the game itself is lost. They do joke that I often sell them out and abandon them, but it is all in jest, as they all follow the belief that I can and will find a way to claw my way up the killfeed. I take huge pride in the fact that my friends have enough trust in me to deal with being behind for like 30 minutes before we win on a regular basis. It is common fuel for jokes amongst us that the worse our usual top main starts into a game, the higher our chance to win is. Fun thing is, I dont have myself get camped by my premades, we just go for brawls and fights that feel right. Although one of us (not me) is the actual head of operations and calls most general shots, the more they try to force a "winning lane", the worse it usually goes for us, so we just stick to intuition and the occasional call. All in all, I wanna say that I am truly grateful for the faith my friends have in my abilites. I could not imagine keeping a fighting spirit up in such horrible looking games (my friends usually dont, but they play it out anyways). I think a truly good Mid Laner shines in their ability to search for opportunities to gain advantages and I would like to believe that I usually find a way to get fed, even in bad games. (my average kda on ASol is 9/3/9 lol). But there is so much more to it and I love the ways you can express your knowledge and general feel for the game. I absolutely despise all other roles (mostly because I simply perform worse there because my skill set is not suited to them), so I am glad to call mid my home. Thanks for listening to a crazed League player rambling.
Aurelion is the hardest champ to play on Solo Queue because you have to convince the four other apes on your team to NOT FF just because you're not snowballing early on

I go the "chess player" route of mid. Very safe, LRLR sort of shit, and that's encapsulated with Ryze. Simple, fundamentally sound, and does his fuckin' job. The slow game is an art often left unused, but its potency has never waned.
My midlane ritual is my friends forcing me mid because no one besides me plays mid as an offrole and getting my ass kicked by a tinker or arc warden who may or may not be having a helping hand from a script. In league I play mid when I want to have some fun but my fun gets stopped by yasuo's stupid windwall because it fucking stops everything now doesn't it? Or of course katarina or zed because isn't it fun to have a million dashes and a billion damage even when you lost your lane. Seriosuly fuck those heroes/champions.
As an anivia player in low elo. Having a sizable mastery pool is only good in aram. My midlane picks are my bread and butter, and because Anivia is a knowledge checker low elo one tricks have no shit on me. And that's right i remember you, that one Fizz player. You are decent but you only know fizz, who the fuck dives anivia with both spells on level 2? You do that for other champions for the firstblood lead but you can't do that for Anivia. So check mate I'm still better.
10:10 I actually prefer my enemies to underestimate me. I rarely use any skins and I don't even use DotA+ so my mastery level is never above 5. But then again, I'm not a midlaner.

I think you have the wrong impression of Mid in League. What you're describing with "nobody expects you to play for the team" is top lane in League. There's a reason we call it an island. Got a bad start on top? Chances are you're on your own for the next 20 minutes. Good luck getting any CS or EXP while you're zoned into fountain. Got a good start on top? Chances are you'll still just be going top to continue killing the enemy top laner for the next 20 minutes. Obviously this isn't the case indefinitely, but neither is it for any role. Mid is expected to roam, gank, teamfight and generally enable the other lanes & jungler much more so than top laners. They're closest to all objectives. They have the easiest time shoving lanes, thus the most free time. Diving top or bot towers with your Jungler is risky. Doing it with your Jungler + Mid is not. Even Bot would be a better fit for that description, as the ADC has to expect the team to play for them, not the other way around. "Supports can play the game on autopilot" Lol, no. Have you ever seen a support that starts roaming while the enemy ADC is freezing the wave? A Draven being allowed to proxy because the support just never comes to bot? Similarly, do you think warding in the very same spots for the 7th time while they have a Jungler that can gank from any angle will work? Do you think you'll be allowed to blind ward Baron 1 minute in advance if the enemy support warded 2 minutes ago so they can re-ward and deny vision safely later? Do you think pretending your ADC is a tank and permanently staying behind them on lane rather than helping with trades will win it for you? A bad support is a loss condition just as much as a good support is a win condition. If anything. ADC is the brain-off role in that regard, since the support is making the calls. - ADC Main

@@Acex2ron Im dumb, fixed it, thanks m8.
Adc is above mid in agency atm in league, rest of your list is correct except jungle and support are tied for first imo.
There is 0 agency in mid anymore tbh, jungle and support dictate all the moves you can make and it's just a question of who plays off these two better.

As a Support main, this is going to encourage me to target the enemy midlaner even harder than I already do to facilitate maximum mental boom. One good hook is all it takes to initiate the tilting phase. UwU
Yes by all means, gank my opposing laner 👏
supports like you is what we need
That sounds amazing! Maybe I should try this out to raise my rank 👀
@@Acex2ron I honestly wouldn't recommend it if you're grinding since the pre-game stuff takes more time than the game itself sometimes but yeah, I think it's pretty effective in resetting my mind after a game(whether that's a win or a huge loss). Takes my mind out of it so I don't really worry about what the next game's result is gonna be. Most of the time, that's really where I struggle, especially during rank up matches. Now, I feel like ranking up is just a breeze lmao.
Note: The added benefit of being untilt-able in any match is honestly really great. After all, you carry out the good vibes and expel all the bad vibes you had last game.
I hope this turns into a 5 video series. I personally belong in the off/top lane and wanna see this done for the utility pseudo-cores that live here
I’d be happy to provide if the demand is there!
Nah as the Legendary Jenkins said about offlane is "offlane are the biggest idiots in all of dota they want to be like a core but they themselves don't want to farm"
@@vo1ce147hey hey hey, glue eating is a perfectly valid hobby
Very nice video
happy i found ur channel it deserves way more attention
Hitting the play button is my pre-ranked ritual.
Here you have some reference points to evaluate your performance:
-Total number of creeps including the 4:30 wave is 44. So 44 cs would he a perfect score
-40+ is great
-35-39 is really good
-30-35 is okay-ish
-25-29 is not good enough
-Less than 25 means that you really need to work on your last hitting since in a real game you will have to balance all of that while dealing with a real oponent and trying to harass them.
Yeah
It's not really always the midlane anymore especially during the recent meta when the playstyle gives off more value on offlane even
It always depends on more on the hero pick because no way a farming midlane hero is the one setting up the tempo
I would loooove to see a video about the jungle role and why it doesn't exist in dota
My "pre game ritual" is just stabbing air with yasuo as soon as i spawn, and then ball with it
my pregame ritual is contemplating if i wanna play league or not
wow I didn't know that in the league you "can't" take your jungler camp, since dota uses a farming priority system, pos 3 (off lane) or 4 (soft sup) kinda automatically give their farm either for pos 2 or main carry, hell I even, as a mid lane would just find a new camp to farm if our carry is near
It's not a system, it's a strategy - but yeah that
Junglers have priory all the time, it is acceptable for the adc to take a camp occasionally after 25+ mins (by occasionally I mean if ur split pushing top they can take krugs, which are far away and likely respawned) however mid laners taking camps is a no no, they already get loads more xp and gold way more than jg gets so it would be incredibly rude and greedy, (fuck that yone who full cleared my jungle after I stole drake)
Personally, it really depends on what Jungler you’re playing. If I’m on Yi or Hecarim, I’d prefer if my laners stay away from my camps.
If I’m playing Rammus? By all means, take my Krugs and Raptors, I’m too busy camping their Yasuo to take it anyway
that's why the carry is actually more important than the midder
Always a fantastic day when Acex2ron posts !!!!!
Loving the support! Hope you liked the video 😊
14:50 i swear i could faintly hear an all too familiar voice end the sentence with a "and remember that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer"
Love to see this as a midlaner. Also, the random genshin ost in background is funny.
Idk, most of the champions I enjoy playing are coincidentally mid laners
the only warmup routine i do is going through stat websites and checking what build works this patch xD
this video is exactly what I've thought before, but then ive seen some dota coaches videos and many of them say that "mid is not the most important role/position/player on the team, the carry is. the main goal of mid is to create space for their carry." that's why mid heroes are usually strong early and mid, when carries are strong mid/late. was kinda eye opening for me, since mid players usually only think about themselves
Tbh these days mid can feel like just as much of a carry role, generally not in the same way the 1 role is, but it still is. Providing heavy amounts of control and a serious amount of damage compared to a fuckton of damage and maybe 1 good utility spell - like, both are important. Sometimes the mid even does a ridiculous amount of damage lategame too, like OD/TA
6 slotted refresher invoker is going to run over a team with the amount of control and utility he provides, puck has easy access to backline to prevent supports from actually playing the game along with serious damage to contend with as well.
What you said reflects more traditional dota
@@peterkirk8510 but ig this all applies to carry if they get space to get their momentum
@@1nhumanewastaken right I’m saying mid is at least as important as carry generally, the “carry is the most important role” is an older way of thinking
True, but this is definitely more true in Dota than in League where anyone can carry!
@@Acex2ron except for the carry 💀
Invoker is what League champs aim for. Low skill floor. Cold snap, alacrity and forge spirits is a very low minimum skill required to be functional playstyle. Using invokers entire skill set while farming, ganking, keeping mid lane pressure, avoiding ganks and using 8 skill shot spells with unique interactions and 2 point and click spells.
Invoker is the closest you can get to meepo levels of micro and skill ceiling whilst still being pick up and play.

You want some small Tips for Ori? Maybe I can help a little:
When you are near the max range of your ball it might be better to just step over the line so it pops back to you instantly and moving it from your position instead of moving it all the way.
That last tip is something I wish I knew when I was playing with a Lee! Thanks so much for these!

You may also want to try Ember Spirit and Void Spirit since they’re also high-mobility, high-skillcap heroes

I personally make sure all my friends are in the same party before doing things. Otherwise, It's pretty hard, especially mentally.
I eat something saucy as my pre game ritual. I am a pudge main.

Been playing League since s5 (2015) when I was highschool as a Mid main who plays Zed and Yasuo 😅. While I definitely fit the archetype in highschool but these days as a certified boomer when I do play I’m the opposite. Probably why I’m bronze 🤣🤣🤣
and then theres mobile legends. where the midlaner is expected to play like a support
"Supports can play the game on autopilot"
Lol, no.
