I just want to say that Triathletes are AMAZING athletes, you cant just be a "RUNNER" or a "SWIMMER" or a good "CYCLIST", you have to be EVERYTHING. I in no way am trying to take away from how hard they train. I just LOVE to compete, it doesnt matter what its in or how prepared I am. I just want to race. Hope you enjoy watching me get my teeth kicked in by some AMAZING athletes, but I did rep my cycling fitness pretty hard!
Dude! Like 50 min for a 10k run is nit a bad time at all, especially after swim and bike. Just check out Triathlon Tarens channel, get some swimming technique and do a couple runs befor and youd be smashing! Love this vids ❤️
Well done, much better then last year! Just one bit of help for the swim, don’t train it for next year but just swim a couple of times in the week before the race! As you said this time, the second half of the swim you felt much better and was getting in to it.. Imagine having that feeling from the start, you might do 5 minutes better and mostly you’ll enjoy the swim more for minimal extra effort
but then there's the "I hate running; I hate running so much" hahhaha former cyclist relegated to running for now; can kinda relate. Cycling generally always nice; running varies tons- good-bad days
I like triathlon for that reason, I swim slow so the bike part is just passing people, feels good. I never see the actually good triathletes after the start tho.
@@Ouarzazate123 that, my friend, is - to put it mildly - not true!! Guess why Kipchoge had like 10 pacers to draft from. Much like in cycling it depends very much on the speed as well as the amount of headwind.
It’s true tho like I used to be a really competitive swimmer before I changed to triathalon and like if your really good at 1 it means your overall fitness is really high so like it really helps with the other 2 especially the run cause everyone knows how to do it
Dud, swim twice a week for a month or two and get into a 1/2 Ironman. Strong cyclists certainly are in a good spot for the tri, if you tighten your swim weakness a bit you will crush it.
Yep exactly. Twice a week for running too. Swim and run 2x that's all and just do a little. You will be worlds ahead of the bike only training situation next year. Promise!!
You're good man. You make the common man or the common road cyclist want to try triathlon and move their body in a different way. Which is awesome cause it's healthy! Everyone has their opinions but we always have the choice to look at something positively or negatively. But dude what impresses me the most and i can relate to this. Is that you do hard workouts and races while vlogging. Until someone trys to create a quality VLOG out of a hard bike effort, they don't how much pressure and mental strength it takes. Like to think how you are gonna film the VLOG, to keep your composure knowing that you are going full gas and then not let anyone down is so so challenging! So kudos to you for being one hardest working cyclist on RUclips! Cheers Tyler!
Bro, you know the struggle of vloging. It's so difficult to keep filming when your tiered and just want to lay down or you didn't do well so you just wanna disappear, but you gotta keep filming. I always trying to think of the end result of the video and how I am always very happy that I kept filming and got finished product out of the whole effort. When you going to make the trip over here and ride with me?
Love it! Honesty just swim a couple times a week for 6 weeks before next year. Use RUclips for instruction. It’s not like cycling or running, in swimming form is everything. You can be extremely fit and just be wasting energy in the water. For the run just do a long easy run once a week and some race pace intervals once a week. Oh and just so you know, a “full” triathlon is usually referring to a full Ironman distance. I’m sure that will confuse some people. I look forward to your triathlon themed videos so keep em coming!!!
Nick Goldston with front crawl you gotta stretch yourself out in the water and make yourself as streamlined as possible. You also gotta remember to keep your head up
I think it's great that you give it a go. I do triathlon (but love the bike) and I think I discovered your channel because of your last triathlon video. Nothing but respect, keep up the good work!
Great video...a work of art. I used to run, then gotta road a road bike and I was hooked. I'm 76 and thankful to still be upright on my road bike. Yup...you've got to enjoy effort, the push, the feeling of being really alive.
I’m a Tri guy and am glad you dipped your toe in it twice. Two things about moving up in distance. One, the swim distance in a Full is so long that you need to be doing freestyle the whole way or you will be an hour behind, at least, before getting out of the water. You’ve got a lake right there! Great place to practice. Watch other people’s RUclips videos on swim technique; everything you need to know is there. Second, over-relying on your bike ride for a Half or Full will kill your run. You will want to make up time biking cuz it’s your strength, but you need to pace yourself 70-75% FTP for a Full, 75-80% for a half. It’s a dilemma for everyone, but especially bike specialists. I’ll be doing the Full Ironman in Santa Rosa 2019, hope to see you there!!
As a triathlete myself I think you are an inspiration man. Your first bass lake tri was the first video I ever watch and I was super impressed by your work and fitness that I subscribes and now you have helped me take my bike to a whole new level. keep on keeping on!!!
I'm a cyclist like you, not as strong tho, about 4.5w/kg (race weight dependant) and you've inspired me to start racing tris. keep up the good work bruh
Tyler, I don't know your current training volume, but a lot of the comments below are spot on for getting faster (swimming is all about technique, biking and running is all about pushing harder). First, I would follow Triathlon Taren (youTube) and go through his free swim drill program. If you did 2-3 swims/week (1 drill-based, 1 long sets, 1 full of 50-100 sprints) for six months, mostly focusing on technique, you'd be 8-10 minutes faster in the water. Bike 3-4x/week. Then run 1-2x/week. You could do a 20 minute run immediately following a ride (a bike + run workout is called a "brick"), or do a longer run on it's own. I'd try to get your run to sub 45 minutes for a 10k. The TT bike would also help save your legs a bit for the run; something about angles and muscles. Yeah, and take that last mile of the ride easy.
I gotta admit that I dropped the subscription like 3 months back because I found your content to be somewhat unappealing but the last two videos you did are amazing. Production is sooo on point. I fixed my mistake and resubscribed ;) Kudos to you and your wife!
really interesting video, loved it, reall;y well put together and presented. As a roadie I have always wondered how I would in a tri ..... thanks for giving us some insight.
Freaking awesome awesome video. That entrance tho. The drone following. Like a boss. Love the music, the video, the spirit. The inspiration. All great VC
Nice work Tyler! Tri community is one of the best you will find, you may find it does wonders for your cycling fitness to mix it in more. And hey more toys!
Yes drone shots are sick 👍 I agree triathletes are amazing, super motivated and put lots of training into swimming and running as well as the bike. My mate just ran a sub three hour marathon AND he’s a super strong rider too 🤯 just incredible.
Music at, all of it, VC? And, love all of the video’s. You should put together a playlist, as all of your music is dope....ALL OF THE TIME! Make we wanna just go out and ride, along with all the great advice that you share with all of us!!!
Quick explanation. Velocity: The Rate at which an object Changes its position Speed = distance / delta time And what you meant was accleration at 15:20. Which is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time. You cannot feel either your speed or your velocity by itself, you can only feel acceleration, this is how the saying you mentioned makes sense. Quick clarification for speed and velocity. Think of 2 people running towards each other with the same speed (lets say 10km/h), they would have the same speed (10km/hour) but their velocity would be different, because they run in different directions. Velocity cares about direction, speed does not.
Late to the party, but I really enjoyed this video. In addition to tell a good story, it also tells a story of being well respected and liked in ones local community, and that is always satisfying to watch. Furthermore, the segment of the bike riding, was kick ass. I think I'll rewind and watch it again. :)
Great video of an epic day! Gotta say bro...you got a lot of courage to show up under-trained in 2/3rds of the disciplines, but kudos to you and your awesome family for just getting in there and showing that it shouldn't be so damn serious! Most Triathletes take themselves too seriously...and I used to be one of them:( Your attitude makes me laugh...in a good way:) BTW...the drone is da bomb!!
Thanks bro! I just always hear people tell me that they will enter an event when they are much more fit or much more trained or whatever. But I want to try to show that you can still have an amazing experience no matter your level of training, just get out there and do it. Oh and that drone is nextlevelshit
10:00 "I hate running, I hate running so much." Bruh, I say the same thing when I go for runs. I keep thinking, "Isn't this why we invented wheels in the first place?" Been watching for a few years, love your content VC!
Having an 20% improvement in swimming would be so easy. You´d only have to train two times a week for half an hour, focusing on tecnic and maybe five minutes strength. Two month before your next event and youll be fine. Oh and mount a tri bar on your road bike, super ugly but super fast. You VC thing really inspires me! Keep it up!
I LOVE watching your tri experiences! Always amazed how well your bike fitness carries over & saves the day! You're a super busy guy but if you found a few swim & run techniques during the year you could cruise through those.
I loved this video. I loved the Vegan Cyclist shout out during the swim/bike transition. I loved the ego shot on the bike of him slamming past everybody. I loved the attitude in general of "dude, I hate running." Great video and so funny to watch!
You did great! I am just getting back into triathlon, and have been running/cycling mostly. Starting to swim again. But that’s always the hardest leg-swimming is ALL technique and you have to have access to a pool. BTW- not surprised the guy helped you with your wetsuit. People are so nice and helpful at these types of events. I tell all my single girlfriends to start riding. You meet the most awesome dudes.
I mean sure the man didn’t have the technique or muscles for running and swimming and that’s gonna set him back versus someone that trains as Intensely for a triathlon. But overall the most critical factor in the sport is cardio and endurance ... and you can’t deny he puts in that work for it. So he’s expected to do decently still even if he’s not training specifically all three with his endurance alone, it’s in no way a insult to the sport. It’s not as if this is a sprinter or a lacrosse player or something saying they can pull it off easily... this is a direct move from a endurance sport to another endurance sport, and even without training you can expect to do better then the average with such high endurance but of course not as well as those with equal endurance combined with the technique and muscle for running and swimming.
I hope you would do a triathlon again some time! I love watching your videos! You should train run and swim too, at least just a little bit. It would be fun to see how much you would improve overall!
Love your carboloading dinner! :) beast of a cycling machine! Would love to see you tapling around little more around the three dicaplines.. like one month block for triathlon prior to half-distance race :)
If you really want to get into tri’s I’d recommend starting with sprint distance races and sticking with them for a while before moving up to Olympic. You’d crush it with a bit of run and swim training. Good job man
I might be nit-picking, but a full distance is usually referred to as the Iron distance, the 3,8-180-42,2 instead of the OD (Olympic Distance). Also, the OD-name is going to change (I guess?) since, the triathlon at Tokyo will be a sprint distance.
Thanks for this video bro. I will be doing my first triathlon on the 24th of June and I am also a pure cyclist. I have fears about the swim and the run since I also don't run or swim but this video is helping me think I can finish this triathlon. Thanks
In reference to those who incorrectly criticize you for doing well at a triathelon...YOU'RE IN SHAPE!! Obviously these people are not aware of your status as a cyclist. I think, your performance in these tri events, speaks very well of your fitness as a cyclist. Proud of you young man!!
Great race, 10th overall with minimal swimming and running prior is awesome. By the way, you want to feel the acceleration, velocity and speed are pretty much the same thing.
Good video! Your last video made me wanna teain more running and swimming. This one also, but it made me realise that i havent runned or swimmed in a year :/ Keep up the good work!
Fantastic. If possible pre ride the course. It'll make a massive difference to your confidence on race day. Knowing the course is as important as your fitness. I get the feeling XC MTB is something you'd really do well at if you built it into your training year round. I do both road and MTB racing. I wish I'd done both from the beginning. There's significant skill and fitness crossover gains in both directions. I'm sure one of the large MTB events would cover your costs to have you enter and shoot your racing experience. The Trainer Road guys are doing a fantastic job of mixing up the cycling events they enter for their podcast. I'd say you offer even more value to any event. Globally, not just in the US.
This video was awesome! Also watching you just smash the bike portion was truly a beautiful thing, great music choice as well. You could seriously do a full course ironman brah.
There are some REALLY bike focused tris where the swim and run are less of a deal. The Alpe d'Huez tri has got your name on it 😀. You're racing great! Yeah wetsuits level things out a bit if you're not a strong swimmer. I rely on mine.
Oh no... here we go again... [21 minuttes later]. Wow. Love your videos; the production value is so high, the drone footage is cool and you comments is fun :-)
I rode my road bike in this event last year too :-) I actually have the same TT bike as you. I hate climbing on that thing. Glad to say I beat you by about 10 minutes on the swim. You crushed my bike time by 20 minutes though... ridiculous. Side Note: I KNEW that was Vilen Rodeski with the beautiful TT bike at the beginning :-)
I just want to say that Triathletes are AMAZING athletes, you cant just be a "RUNNER" or a "SWIMMER" or a good "CYCLIST", you have to be EVERYTHING. You could get that run time down without too much work, but if you're only doing 1 triathlon a year who cares?
Wow VC this is really fun to watch

For some reason, the cycle part where you overtake other triathletes is truly satisfying to watch
small satisfaction is still satisfaction

Ha!
Me at every race I’ve been to.
Dude, totally made me spit my coffee out of my mouth with, "Can I draft...is drafting a thing in running." LMBO!
I also laughed soooo hard on this one :DD
drafting has a small impact in running actually

Love your carboloading dinner! :) beast of a cycling machine! Would love to see you tapling around little more around the three dicaplines.. like one month block for triathlon prior to half-distance race :)
If you really want to get into tri’s I’d recommend starting with sprint distance races and sticking with them for a while before moving up to Olympic.
You’d crush it with a bit of run and swim training.
Good job man
This triathlete in my area crushes strava segments and has many KOMs. Dude is a different breed
The drone is way Awesome! Nice job with those shots.
I might be nit-picking, but a full distance is usually referred to as the Iron distance, the 3,8-180-42,2 instead of the OD (Olympic Distance). Also, the OD-name is going to change (I guess?) since, the triathlon at Tokyo will be a sprint distance.
Great clip bro. I think triathlon is a natural progression from cycling, for me it was anyways. Again fantastic video, keep doing more like this.
I really love your videos Tyler! The drone footage was awesome!
Sick footage with the drone!!👍👍
Good video! Your last video made me wanna teain more running and swimming. This one also, but it made me realise that i havent runned or swimmed in a year :/
Keep up the good work!
Yo VC, please enter some XC MTB races. It would make for some great content with your current fitness.
I ushally do 2 or 3 in the year but missed the big Sandy in April, so Springville is a for sure go this year and maybe one other.
This!
Bloody hell triathletes are FIT
Awesome job man! Love the perceptive you offer on the race Vlogs
This video was awesome! Also watching you just smash the bike portion was truly a beautiful thing, great music choice as well. You could seriously do a full course ironman brah.
Great video. Looking forwards to a shocker next year when you are trained to swimming like a fish and run like terror in on your heals
Dope video! Makes me want to try out a triathalon. Also dig your music!
Hey Tyler, love the drone footage! It's awesome and can't wait to see the use from it in the future!
There are some REALLY bike focused tris where the swim and run are less of a deal. The Alpe d'Huez tri has got your name on it 😀. You're racing great! Yeah wetsuits level things out a bit if you're not a strong swimmer. I rely on mine.
Love the drone shots, that’s a good sw
Oh no... here we go again...
Great effort VC! Really inspiring!
