Can you do a video on the Grand Sultan of the Efreet? His origin is in 2nd or ADND. I would love to know more about him. An amazing character and horrifyingly powerful.
Please do a playable Mantacore, giant, and oni please
I think I will buy it for the eye tyrant also for the spells, do you think my players could use the spells for aberrant mind?
If you make a Monster Classes PDF that includes Beasts and Oozes, you *WILL* get my money.
I would add in the physiology they would be found drinking mostly from ponds or stagnant water where Iron rich orange bacteria grows.
Fun Fact: Maticore comes from the Persian word Marti Khor, meaning man eater. In the ancient world some Greek people overheard the horrible tale of a vicious murderous creature that had devoured many in northern Iran. In reality the creature was a Caspian Tiger that had started hunting humans for some reason, and the people called it a maneater (because tigers dont usually feed on humans) and so the Greeks took the story to their homeland and a mythical creature was born!
Also fun fact, the real mythical manticore doesn't have wings. That's purely a D&D addition.
Watch out boy, she'll chew you up
Party pooper.
@@wakie231 Oh, here she comes
She's a man eater
Dnd teaches history
All I can imagine is this scene:
Mantacore lands, "What are you doing here fleshling?"
Party, "Hunting dragons."
Mantacore, "Down the road, on the left. Big smoking mountain. You can't miss it."
While the falsetto voice thing is both fun and creepy depending on the situation, I prefer the old myths about a voice that mixes human speech with sounds akin to trumpets and flutes. It just adds that extra level of grandeur onto the creature and makes it that bit more majestic.
I can already picture a manticore singing Staying Alive by the BeeGees
Flutes, you say?
@@derekstein6193 I heard that manticores have something called "locomotive breath" not sure what that means tho
Part man, part lion vocal chords producing a falsetto pitch with near immovable lips would be so absolutely terrifying to your ears, especially coming from the darkest corner of a deep cave.
I imagine it being shrill, but both raspy and growling, like aluminum scraps being drug across stone.
These critters are still one of my absolute favorites.
I like how the Manticor is presented in the Merlin series, a malicious creature capable of producing powerful healing unguents, but only when it's ego and vile appetite is sated
I imagine a bbeg cleric thats lover is dying of disease that their God's magic can't heal, feeling betrayed they turn to other means. They find a manticore, and begin giving it sacrifices and what not to attain these healing unguents.
@@travisstroman-spaniel6091 yeah, this is the kinda story hook I love
@@couchcommandoiv5528 feel free to steal it
As a DM and a falsetto, my players are going to be shocked next time they encounter a manticore 😂
😅
I instantly pictures Mike Tyson...
@@greggrady1283 A manticore with a high, falsetto voice and a lisp would be awesome!

I am imagining more of a Rob Halford deal.
Way back in olden ancient Greece
Lived a most ferocious beast
With eyes of flame and teeth of steel
On human flesh it feast
Standing over 10 feet tall
No man escaped its roar (Roar!)
Behold, my friends and foes alike
The dreadful Manticore!
Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore!
The Manticore feels happiness
Whenever you feel sad
Because you got kicked in the junk
The Manticore is glad
The Manticore invented death
And all things that are bad
He'll kill your sister just for fun
And make out with your dad
Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore!
He'll enroll you in the school of pain
And then teach the class
He'll kick your ass in with his feet
And then he'll kick your feet with his gigantic ass
Don't give him sass
He ate a whole guy with his face and didn't even chew
Turns out that guy was you
And yet you're there
There can only be one explanation
And that's that you're a zombie
Now I'm scared
It's not like there wasn't enough on my mind
With the Manticore
Manticore, where are you now?
Are you gone forever?
Oh no, wait -- there you are.
He'll steal your girlfriend in the night
And then he'll steal your soul
He'll have a threesome with them both
That's just how he rolls
You may want to cry out loud
"Manticore, you are wrong!"
Too bad he already killed your ass
In the first verse of this song.
Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore!
Manticore! Manticore! Manticore! Manticore!
Yeah, Mesopotamia. Literally means man eater
That song was way longer then I expected 😅
Nicely done (or copied/pasted)
@konnyboy9337 at first I was thinking mayb the "last unicorn " then I kept reading like nope definitely not
@@PadishahArminManticore are in Greek Mythology as well. Greeks were quite the merchants depending on city-state. Wasn't unheard of for the stories to intermingled.
Just look at the war against Typhon. The Olympians all ran to Egypt, save Zeus, if I remember correctly.

So happy to finally see a new upload! Glad youre still making content Mr. Rhexx!!
He's not evil, he has a Thorn in his paw.
Ranger: "So the manticore says it will let us pass if we give it a tribute of meat or metal to eat."
Artificer: "Oh, funnily enough I have these new rations that are meat wrapped in metal called SPAM."
Manticore: "I don't like SPAM!"
Another reason why it probobly has three rows of teeth is because well, the mythical manticore was said to have three rows of teeth.
Glad that you are back at making videos! They are a joy to watch ❤
I would appreciate a series on the major cities of Faerun....i.e Waterdeep, Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter and so on hitting the history, how they got started, demographics, import and exports, Historic leaders and battles.! Thanks
Yes!!
I think a great idea for a plot one shot is to have a Gorgon causing trouble in a region/village and u have to make a deal with a Manticore, as they're lawful they would keep their end of the deal.
If the party has some members chaotic or evil they could kill both monsters, get reagents and gold.
The falsetto voice is hilarious and instantly gives me character ideas.
The beholder with little hats and such for its stalks is so cute lol.
Happy to see a video, dude!
Rob Halford Manticore.
Mr. Rhexx, I believe this is the most interesting and informative DnD channel on YT. Thank you! 🧐🤓
Awesome!! One more epic addition to the library of videos!!! Much appreciated MrRhexx!!
As always, amazing content. Every time I watch your videos I have looots of ideas, entire quest lines etc etc.
Awesome to see a new video from Mr Rhexx. Love the art shown throughout the video . Shows how deadly and really quite freaky and off-putting a manticores' human face can be.
Also, the Mind Lord and Eye Tyrant from your new PDF look really cool! I will definitely have to check them out!
One of my all time favorite monsters. Thank you for covering it Me Rhexx!
maaan, i love manticores so much really excited to learn about them
Glad to see another video from you! Definitely a fun one. Not sure what you have planned for the near future, but I was hoping that before you wrapped up talk on Dragons completely you could at least touch on Tchazzar. I also would be really fascinated to hear you talk about Goblinoids.
I gotta say, i love being able to take the lore of all things dnd like this and regurgitating it onto my friends. Especially the ones i believe would know more than I. Keep up the good work, look forward to all the weird creatures to come
Soo good to see your posting these again
It's because of you and your videos that I started to want to run my own d&d game. However, because of the lack of information (and many more things I don't like about 5e), I've settled to play AD&D 2nd Ed! I'm ingesting all that you're throwing out there (particularly about dragons), and using that information for my game.
So thank you, MrRhexx, for these videos! People are losing SO much by playing 5e, so I'm glad you're here to fill those gaps!
LONG LIVE THAC0!
Great video and super excited to read the new monster class. Just ordered it.
I love the SCP universe. I'm excited to hear yalls take. I loved the editing and the way yall portrayed it. The Scarlet King has always been one of my favorites, and I'd love like an ongoing video where you update more information about him and his kin and how they interact as if the foundation is finding this stuff out.
Omg, my hands were shaking of deprivation for new "What they don't tell you about" episodes
This video came at the right time, I was about to make a drakewarden ranger and instead of a dragon choose a Manticore as an ally and after this video I had several roleplay and BG ideas thx man
I was just wondering earlier today if you were taking a break, it's good to see you back
We love your videos bro. Keep 'em coming and trust us to watch them 😎👍
It's about damn time!! We missed ya!
Just found you today. I actually came for the Manticore info, but your self promotion ad actually got me to subscribe. I was pulled into your new classes & love the idea. When get some bills off me, I will be hitting your store. Your refreshed character classes sound awesome. Anyway, on to the video. LOL 🤣
Okay, I HAD to edit this comment. Your info on these creatures has definitely changed my mind on how to play them. I have 2 in my current game that has allied with the PCs. Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this one, in the world I’m building Manticore are a huge issue to shipping lanes along the coast and one kingdom even reveres them as symbols of power. Thanks for the info, I can totally use this!
I love your channel, and manticores, so big thumbs up for this one!
He lives!!! Welcome back Rhexx.
I love your lore dives. I would LOVE to see you do ones about famous wizards like Elminster or Tasha
The content of the ad brings me great joy 🤣
thank you rhexx luv ur stuff
They also didn't mention that many female manticores suffer from iron deficiency when going through mantopause.
Incorporating iron supplements into their diet is recommended.
Awesome video bro
So, what I'm hearing is that I should make every manticore the party encounters sound like HIM from Powerpuff Girls?
Yaaay a monster upload 😀😀😀
This guy is living my best life.
I know it's only been a month since your last video, but I have missed you very much
MIss you bro, amazing video as always
Excellent thank you for the video have a good day 😊😊😊😊.
Hey have a great day Thanks for the awesome videos.
Love to see more videos about manticores.
I actually have plans on building a manticore character in my next game.
Tabaxi/ tiefling variant
Gladiator background
Kensai monk
Morningstar as primary weapon and darts (flavored as tail spikes) as the secondary weapon.
Yay more Lore from my favorite Lore Master
Nice Timing for this video. My players just found a Manticore Baby and one wants to keep it as a pet. Now i know how to handle it a bit better. Thanks for the awesome video!
May I request a video on the Formians please? These things cross my mind every now and then for the past two decades man.
Welcome back, BTW 👏
Thank you for the video.
Funny how they keep saying it has a lion's body, but keep drawing it with stripes so it mainly looks like a tiger's body lol.
Thanks for the lore! ^^
Thanks for the video. I was wondering where you were.
Please continue with "The Dragons of Dungeons and Dragons"
Fascinating creature truly, especially the 2nd edition DnD art speaks to me.
Bless MrRexx
There he is! Back with more lore Crack.
These, these are the best
Haven't even clicked "Play" yet but.... Yay!! Missed you, Rhexxy! Love your voice so much.
Wait till he says iron 20 times
@@FarseerRK lol Call me a simp, but the dude could read the dictionary to me :P
Now I know what to add in the mines. Thank you
This is an awesome video… I had no idea about the spikes being Iron… I thought it was bone or maybe even like quills… give me some great ideas for future D&D sessions 😁
mrrex seems creative AF
*kicks in door holding snacks*
"Finally another, what they don't tell you about!"
So a live Manticore is worth 1000 gold, but the hide of a dead one is 10000? Wanted dead or alive, but mostly dead.
Live manticores are incredibly dangerous and difficult to maintain. Only a handful could handle it and thus the amount available to collar one is low. But these things are a terrible threat wherever they go so any bounty for a dead one is no doubt through a king and thus can draw on the Royal treasury to pay out. The king represents the land itself so basically you would be played with taxes.
I love manticores thank you!!!
The taming section reminds me of people trying to take hippos
sweet, new video
Oooh nice :D
One of my players just received a baby manticore as a pet so this is perfect :D
take a shot every time he says "eye-rin" @~@'
Dude, those new monster classes are sweet!
9:50 he got those Deep Sea Snail spikes, that's really cool.
I really wish Rhexx would release these as podcast episodes, there's not really anything else like them in podcast format
Imagine a manticore with Myke Tyson's voice... stuff of nightmares
I'm now imagining a group of manticores singing Bee Gees songs.
Mr. Rhexx pronouncing “iron” as “eye-ron” instead of “eye-urn” caught me off guard.
I Ren.
As a non-native English speaker, I got a bit confused. Was asking myself if I was pronouncing it wrong the whole time. Google says no. Lol.
@@Solkard Stahp!
Hi, love your videos. Can you do a series on all the criminal organizations in the forgotten realms? would help in a long running campaign I'm running
The falsetto voice part got me XD
i remember seeing art of non-dnd manticores in an old book on folklore, and artists really don't fuck around when it comes to those rows of teeth- damn things smile worse than the cheshire cat
I'm imagining the Manticore sounding like the character "Him" from the Power Puff Girls. The red devil with lobster claws... That would be freaky as hell.
"mane of a lion" - image shows tiger fur 🙂
Love your videos dude!!
finally !!! wb ^^
The voice fact killed me lol
After listening to NSP's version of the mantacore that is now my head canon version of the beast
I think everyone RUclipsd "Falsetto man voice" and maybe got the Josh Peck looking man singing in Falsetto with the women to get a gist of what a manticore sounds like, and busted up laughing or made the infamous "KKKLTHHHH" throat laugh out of shock.. cause I SURE DID
I also highly recommend looking up lore from 4th edition D&D. There is a surprising amount of it in the monster manuals.
Its been to long
I enjoy lore of any kind!!
Love manticores, solid second place on my favorite monsters, losing only to giants. And I come with a tale of why I love how vague the Monster Manual is on 5th ed. I was playing a campaing and a manticore appeared as a random encounter, but it was just outside our fortress, to the point when it shot its spikes they hit the outer walls. Later on the campaing, our monk was running away from some bandits and he got to the outer walls of our fortress and used the spikes to climb the wall, since according to the DM they were made of bone and would still be there by that time. On another campaing, with another DM, she made sure we understood the spikes were made of metal, the manticore was alied to some hobgoblins and when they attacked the group there were metal spikes all over the floor during the fight (plus, huge thunderstorm going on, for theatrics I guess), our inspired blue dragonborn used his lightning breath on the spikes and created a eletrified field that got 3/4 of the enemies, getting us an easier win (he warned us, and we all got on top of whatever was available nearby). Two different DMs using the same monster in two different ways, both creative and fun.
5e thanks you for your hard work making them money.
I would love to see a video on korred next
Lets go! Back to monsters baby
Still waiting for Oni. Like, do they originate from Vaprak like trolls and ogres do?
1:36 this man is doing more to bring up the DnD canon then wizards of the coast ever did lol.
Man, I didn't know about the metal. That would have adjusted my encounter with this one and the material gathering afterwards lol. I thought it was just like a bone thing xD
I could see a manticore using it's smooth, high pitched voice to sing or lure people into an ambush.
aaaand a screaming falsetto manticore will never leave my brain, as the gnome barbarian holds their 2.5' "great" axe above their head about to end it. That's with me forever, now.
@MrRhexx are we ever gonna get those cool updates to the purchased PDFs you mentioned a long-ass time ago? Are they possibly coming in the kickstarter rewards? any info would be cool. I really want to build these in my Foundry game, but if there's balance issues i'd like your most updated ones! I love all the content i've got so far.
I think they will be updated after we get the Kickstarter rewards.
I am so excited for the physical book.
