@@jacob_90s He was initially very fond of it. Then Toei brought out the legal guns and Sean's comments essentially amounted to "no comment" and "it's probably not legal" thereafter.
Chris is in a high enough position at Funimation to have the privilege of not giving a shit what Toei thinks hence this scene here. He's in charge of casting for many Funimation dubs, Toei can't tell him who to cast but they can pull scenes from broadcasting. He even cast them under aliases in the hopes of getting it onto TV before they realized but somebody at Funimation snitched and the scene was pulled.
Sabat got the last laugh though. Lanipator's Krillin voice saying to buy their merch got past the Toei censors.

In an alternate timeline, TeamFourStar did this scene and they actually got the real Funimation voice actors of their characters to play the actors hilariously misquoting lines from the series

matt0044 I'm not too sure but I know that Toei has some serious beef with TFS.
They had minor roles and didn't apprise any of their known roles in DBZA. Toei hates them purely because they use their animation even though it's protected under parody laws in the US and a fuckload of editing goes into them, even correcting mistakes in the original animation.
Now tfs has to get the funimation guys to do this scene when they get to it.
Stephen Marco Funimation voice actors can't, they have contracts with Toei/Funimation that prevent them from doing so.

They can as long as they use a pseudonym and don't do the voice they play in the main series. Chris Sabat has done a few TFS roles under the table like that since it can't be legally proven when his name isn't on there and he's not doing something recognizable like his Vegeta.

It is doable as long as voice actors do not use the same voices as they are contracted with funimation to use. For example Chris Sabat would not be able to do Vegeta voice for TFS .... but he could still do something close to it.
The amount of meta jokes that they fit into this 2-minute scene is very impressive.

They actually left the last part with Krillin in the final scene
Was probably a technicality-- since he's not playing Krillin in any way, it's fine. Kaiser Cell probably would have been okay, Nappa Satan is an edge case, but Masako Goku and Lani Vegeta/Piccolo were right out.

its a japanece thing, they hate when others use their stuff without their permition, its one of the same reasons why nintendo is soo hostile against fan games, in japanece culture stealing is a huge no no no matter the reason and they consider things like parodies and the like like a huge disrespect

Rewriting the entire script, redesigning new character arcs, adding new lore, and only using select scenes from the original (60 10-20 minute episodes for DBZA vs DBZ’s 194 20 minute episodes for the sagas they covered) is far from what I’d consider stealing.
And, as literally every single episode of DBZA says at the beginning, their work of PARODY falls under the US’s fair use copyright law.

The thing is DBZ wasn't that mature in the first place (which isn't a bad thing when you consider the intended audience) but with the Abridged version, nostalgic viewers of the original can experience the show all over again without it being overly redundant.

According to one of the voice actors at Funimation whom I spoke with at a local con (I won't identify out of respect), Apparently Toei got word of this before it aired and they got pissed at the studio and said that if they aired it, they would pull out from letting Funimation distribute all their content. That's how much they hate TeamFourStar.
Ironic considering that the TFS has had some pretty obvious influences on DBS. That one Popo scene was practically lifted from abridged.

I love that they "accidentally" aired this version before replacing it with a more official version. Of course they knew that Toei wouldn't go for this, but once it reached the internet, there'd be no taking it back.
In a way, it's Funi's way of saying "Fine, we'll play ball. We'll honor your wishes and-oops! We accidentally aired the TFS version. Don't worry, we'll replace it with the remastered version we made earlier and this dumb idea will be lost forever..." ;)

krillinmesoftly I don’t recall when he said it or if he outright dislikes them, but he at least likes them less than Sabat. It’s the same kind of situation where Dan Green likes Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series but Kaiba’s voice actor doesn’t.
Best part is the whole world knows both about the saiyans and Piccolo, they literally committed numerous public atrocities and King Piccolo literally overthrew the world government just a couple of decades prior.
