I do carry a pry bar, two in fact but I don't use them for heavy duty prying but moreso something akin to convincing a thing apart. The first pry bar is actually featured in this video, that being the victorinox pioneer x. I don't only use the flat head but also the can opener. This is because the thin edge it has makes it quite capable at getting into tight fitting pieces of material and sepperating them. The pioneer x already fits nicely into my edc because of the awl which I use very frequently and the scissors which are quite good quality. The other pry bar I carry is for tasks where I don't want to mar the metal (usually steel) of what I'm prying thus I've opted for a titanium pry bar of rather small size (so I don't accidentally apply too much pressure through leverage). The one I use is the civivi ti bar c21030 because it meets the criteria above and also fits very cleanly on my keys. My work isn't blue collar so I've never felt the need for a more heavy duty pry bar on my person. I own pry bars of that type but I keep them in my shop. I only do medium duty prying with my work and hobbies so I think my current set up works quite nicely
Agree 100%. Recently bought the Victorinox Pioneer X and I find that its can opener is pretty much the perfect pry bar for everything that I do. But because it has other things it can do it's easily a mainstay in my toolkit.
As a stocker , that desco pry bar is must have lol, it's pretty pocket friendly if you have the crook sticking out the top of the pocket , the flat disappears pretty easily
Pry on things with a Swiss Army knife? Absolutely yes, I carry one and use it all the time, for prying, cutting, reaming, screwdriving, opening boxes etc etc. Buy a $200 EDC titanium pry bar? Absolutely no, that's insane.
For aviation work, a small prytool is useful to gently assist opening of access panels, etc. Kershaw PT2, because it can turn a valve, it can handle a quarter inch bit. Another good one is the Nitize ratcheting prytool, comes with bits. Griffin prytool is okay, but they bend after repeated use. You can paracord wrap the TSA compliant Gerber Shard & gift em out. Prytools keep your other tools from becoming damaged. Enjoyed the video.
I can tell you actually do use the prybars in your line of work so for sure it makes 100% sense for you. I think for me, I'm just a guy sitting on a desk and typing on a computer :P so for me it wasn't as useful. :P
Agree 100% Sometime after I made this video I discovered the Alox Pioneer X and it basically has an amazing prybar inside of it. Took me a while to realize that the Alox variants aren't just the shell but the actual tools are much thicker and more robust.
I don't carry a pry bar, since I don't need it in my every day life. But I have a Leatherman Piranha in my extended EDC pouch. It is a pretty useful tool by its own, but it gets even better when you use it in conjunction with Leatherman bits set+ bits extension. It gives an angle for such a setup so I don't need any screwdrivers at all. Thanks for the analysis! Your physics is the best!)
Sure thing Hamilkar!! That's a good point about screwdrivers. The Crock was made from the same family as Piranha and has those screwdriver ends. That's a great point!
Depends on the use definitely. I carry my lisle pry everyday on the job as a technician to pry open small devices and even some larger units. They work great for the stupid button batteries, as I don’t carry a traditional pocket knife but instead a fast back utility knife.
Depends on what you do and what you need. Everyone’s needs are different, but most people aren’t using these to pull nails or go heavy leverage prying.
yip! I'm beginning to think for the vast majority of RUclipsrs it's basically jewelry. Here's my prybar! (super duper shiny and purty, never used :D) And for the people who 'do' use prybars daily they ain't using the fancy ones.
@@DracomiesInteresting! Great review just subbed, I guess I just haven't come across any RUclipsrs that don't make good use of their EDC small pry bars. For me I work at Tractor Supply Co. and use a keyport moca tool on my orbit key prying apart boxes with glue and from time to time opening them because I keep a slice tool in my work pouch. I'm also a very project based person for electronics and jobs around the house. In essence the end of something like the doohickey works in the same fashion (although since it's on the orbit key it swivels out so I get to use more leverage). Saves your knife for another task if you carry one. Also I just ordered a SOG power pint it's on the way tomorrow I already have a Victorianox Classic SD to make up for the knife and scissors the rest should be ok but I'm excited for the V cutter, the pliers, and the bit diver! 🔥🔥
Great video. The Gerber Shard is crap BTW. They break. Lever Gear Edge XT is a true multitool pry bar with a retractable blade. It does everything the Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1 does and more and it only weighs 1 ounce. It could conceivably replace your swiss army knife, especially if you carry a SwissCard in the wallet for scissors and nail file. At 2.75" it doesn't provide the greatest leverage, but there's not a lot of "holes" in it for wrenches so it's pretty strong. In addition, Niche Industries is about to release their GT-1 on Kickstarter in June. It's bladeless so TSA approved. Very interesting with lots of features.
Have you reviewed the Mighty Bar Mini? As far as EDC it looks like it would be barely noticeable on a keychain. I’m kind of going with your theories that it’s probably not really necessary, especially if you have something like a keychain SAK.
I reviewed it but I deleted the video because it had low views. But I basically hated it. It's too useless to be of any use for anything. It's very very small, so small to be of any real use.
lol…. Anti review… I had to leave earlier… came back to finish the vid. I liked it… I found it interesting… I have the thin metal county com pry bar, along with its plastic cousins. They work well on computers .. especially laptops. Looking for another slightly larger one. EDC for me doesn’t necessarily mean in my pocket, just with me. I also have the larger blue style like yours… and bigger… they stay in my tool box… just remember right tool for the job, and you can understand why the “pocket” type have a place…. Carry on 😂

As someone who has weak fingernails, I keep a Nite Ize Doohickey of some sort on every key chain. And I use them daily.

I bought a knock off mighty bar for 8 bucks on Temu, works great!

The pioner knife is my only EDC and have had it for around 5 years. I carry it with a clip. Love it, also the pry bar.

Kershaw 8800 for me. Mostly for opening packaging and tin lids. Yes, you can use a latch key, but you know you should nt be.😄

I don't carry a so called EDC tool kit with me every were I travel, but I do carry a Swiss Army Knife, Huntsman in my lunch/cooler Box
Huntsman is a classic! It's got a lot of great tools in it.
So with the really small one have you considered combining that with a cheater bar?
If it's with a cheater bar it definitely wouldn't be portable :P
Guy has no chill.
Daddy chill
I was wondering what your comment meant, i do understand now.....
