    Terrific review. I’ve played, and owned several e-kits over the years. Never experienced the dynamic sensitivity demonstrated with this ride and snare.

    Great review! I’m a fan of this kit, especially with the upgrades for the snare and ride cymbal.

    I disagree with you regarding your comment that the price of the kit is based on Roland's research and development. If they charged 3000 for this kit they still would make money. You also commented that the features of this flagship kit will trickle down to the lower priced models. I disagree. The lower priced kits are significantly lacking in several key areas and the company does this on purpose. They might add a couple features to the module here and there; but they don't change the important features on the lower cost kits.

      Totally AGREE that if they sold it for even $5000, they would make so much more money on this kit. As far as the snare goes, it's definitely a huge step forward, but I don't think the samples are quite there yet. I guess if you used SD3 as a sample engine, but really, for nearly $7500, you should not have to trigger better samples.

      We all want cheaper things but this is their flagship meant for professional drummers who would write this kit off as a business expense. While e drums tend to be expensive I always look at it as I'm getting hundred of kits for my money with all the samples and mods you can make.

    You mentioned the tom's still have machine gunning and in time they will improve this problem but if you said these are actual drum sounds not processed then why would these tom's sound like that. The pearl mimic pro, atv and even the alesis pro tom's sound really good.

    • @adamnollygetgood5545
      @adamnollygetgood5545 6 лет назад +2

      I think the machine-gun effect is more to do with the number of velocity layers and round-robin samples in play rather than the sounds themselves.

      If you're spending 7k on this kit, you're spending a couple of hundred bucks on superior drummer 3.

    Still no snare throw, why hasn't this been implemented as of yet?

    • @WhateverNullPointer

      Well, you can easily copy your kit and change the snare sound and then just switch kits

    Good review, cheers. That price though!!! :( And electronics do not do well in the long-term when it comes to resale. £7000 today. How much will it be worth in a couple of years? I wouldn't even consider it. Could buy a huge pile of amazing acoustic gear for that, and still have enough left over for a cheaper electric kit for those times when you might need it. It's just some plastic and some chips - seriously overpriced.

      Electronic drum kits tend to keep their value forever, even a used Td20x can still fetch £3k and it's 11 years old at this point. A used Td50kv from 2016 will set you back £5.5k on the used market. Not bad.

      You'd be shocked at how much money used Roland V-drum stuff goes for on e-bay... it seems to hold its value extremely well. Their stuff *does* hold up. I have a PD-120 in my kit that I originally got almost *20 years ago*, and it still sounds and triggers fine!

    • @thetruth156real3
      @thetruth156real3 3 года назад

      They hold their price very well and are not a substitute for an acoustic kit, just another tool. I hadn’t drummed for years and was asked to join a Led Zep tribute band,, I bought one of these some headphones and a Led Zep back catalogue. Two months later I was earning a minimum of 300 quid a gig, playing an acoustic kit.

    I want a good sounding electronic kit for practicing and recording. But this price has me rethinking. It would be less money to build a sound proof room and buy a really nice acoustic kit.

    The stock sample library is abysmally shoddy and sparse. Blatantly lying about that is really weird and makes me wonder about the reason why. This is also not new for Roland, but in a kit that costs 8 grand to not find a single snare that doesn't sound like cardboard is almost comical at this point. With all the artists Roland hired to shill their stuff there doesn't seem to be a single one with functioning ears working at Roland.

    Your all hearing the stock sounds. The stock sounds are lame. Where this module shines is with creating custom kits. The triggering is superb. The snare and ride are the next step in edrums.

    Over £7500K & you don't even get the high hat/snare stand or the kick drum pedal...
    Whatever Roland are snorting they need to cut back & get a grip...
    Nearly £8 grand & they still won't cough up on those 3 extras that should be standard...
    Even the Roland TD17KVX at £1500k suffers from these same exclusions & in this day & age that's a disgrace...
    This technology isn't new & it's not the 80s so why the over inflated prices on every Roland V Drum Kit I've looked at...
    It's the same with Fender & Gibson when buying one of their lead or bass guitars yet they haven't improved on those products & before someone says " If it ain't broke, Don't fix it " I disagree...
    So many of Fenders top level bass guitars still have the old fashioned bridges instead of coming with the new & improved high mass bass bridge as standard & guess what if you want that particular bridge it's going to cost the buyer more & it's the same with Roland and any musical instrument...
    Regarding these omitted kick Dr pedal et al, I've heard many drummer's say it's better that way so that you can buy your preferred high hat/snare stand & kick drum pedal & I'm not disagreeing with that point but at certain price points certain things should be part of the overall bundle...
    To be honest this kit doesn't sound much better than the 3 various TD-KV models & at £7500 that's just a non starter...
    For the price that Roland are asking for at nearly £8k you could buy a fairly newish car or better still buy a top end acoustic drum kit & still have money left over to buy one of the TD-17 series of electronic drum kits...
    This is just typical of Brand merchandiser's cashing in on their name & you'd need to be seriously in the money to buy this kit without worrying about other more important things like paying for your bills...
    Usually with certain product brands I can see the justification & would maybe purchase a product at a price that many wouldn't, but this kit I would never pay for even if I won the lottery as this is just sheer greed & a company using its name to put weight behind its asking price...
    And what gets me most is that Roland haven't really pushed the envelope in recent years & are happy to put out recycle electronic drum kits with very little in the way of any great improvements...
    .....

      Hi hat stand, snare stand and kick petal are not and never should be included as they are drummers preference. Especially someone who is serious enough to buy this kit will want that choice. This is not supposed to be a beginners bundle

    • @xXawesomedogXx
      @xXawesomedogXx 5 лет назад +1

      Also the 7500 models are the same kit with pad size downgrades with exact module. So of course it will sound the same. Do your research before you go on a pointless rant

    What a dreadful value. Still sounds as garbage as any other electric kit but costs more than 4x a good acoustic kit. Can these companies get their sounds to catch up to Sd3 and Ggd ;) even ssd5 is better and even my cheap 2003 Roland playing midi Sd3 feels great and realistic.
