- Munnar, Kerala Hidden Gem! (we can't believe we found this)| Foreigners travel Kerela vlog 2024
Hi everyone!
Thanks for watching our Kerala travel vlog! This is our most favorite adventure to date in Kerela in Anakulum. Anakulum is an amazing and very small local village in the Idukki district, close to Munnar and very similar to Munnar vlog with the amazing views, wildlife, and tea plantations. Anakulum is known as the “land of wild elephants” and while staying there we got to see elephants every night and morning (early in the morning). Watch two foreigners travel Kerala!
After our chai in Anakulum, we adventured off in our motorbike and had some interesting experiences. We saw a tribal village but were unable to venture further as there were dangerous animals around and the safari tours told us to leave… We ended up starting the journey in Mankulum where we ate a traditional Kerala style breakfast, fish curry and porotta along with Chai (kerala foodie traveller heaven!). This was made by Lucy chechi. We made friends with her and others and a man named Joy then took us with him to see a waterfall (5 min walk away). It was more like a 40 min trek but it was amazing.
He took us to a stunning waterfall and Keenan was able to swim and I was able to rest. From there we went to the Munnar tea plantations and explored the beauty of the district. The greenery was stunning. We loved the trip 😉
We ended our day back in Aakkulum to see the elephants There was a massive tribe that night and we felt so lucky to see them. All in all, it was the best day yet and unbelievable to experience Kerala. We are loving it so far and hope that you are enjoying our trip too.
Being two (foreigners in Kerala) American in Kerala and English in Kerala, we are hoping our our Kerela travel vlog shows you some of the best tourist places in Kerala in English!
Lots of Love,
Mac & Keen

Thanks for watching guys! This was our favorite experience in Kerala to date! Would love to hear about other's village experiences in Kerala as well!
Thank you for visiting Kerala.
I have a suggestion
Your Camera is a bit shaky throughout the video.
Thank you! We are buying a gimbal to fix that we need it
Kerala is relatively unique (even coastal Karnataka and some parts of Tamil Nadu have this characteristic) in India for being the most urbanized state but doesn't have metropolises as such. The whole state is more or less like a long drawn out suburb as a result. Relatively less urban rural divide and villages are pretty accessible as a result. Villages in North India especially are very different from this and I would actually caution you if you intend to travel in those regions. Some rural areas in North India can be pretty unsafe for women. Like you can see here that people in Kerala's villages understand some rudimentary English and people like Joy are quite common. This is not the case in many other places in India. In places like UP, Bihar, Jharkhand etc you should not take up such offers. There is a possibility that you might get scammed.
Broadly speaking, the West Coast of India (Malabar and Konkan Coast) are much more developed and notably more cosmopolitan than rest of India. This low key true for North East India too.
This summer is hotter than any in recent times in Kerala. Now there is very little water in the rivers. Kerala's raining season starts in june and green season starts August. You can see real beauty of rever in july-august
You guys speaking Malayalam ( our local language ) ver well . Its impressive 👏👏
Wow thank you. The pronunciation is super difficult but we got a couple words in the bank! 😊
South India is OK.
But don't follow such unknown man in North India.
Follow as long as there are other people around. If any problem just shout, everyone else will come and help you.
We will definitely always be careful thank you for your concerns ❤
Best believe that because I personally know it because my father is from the north and I've been there many times for a family wedding and right after that weddings we came home back as soon as possible
Yes, its true. It will be a good practice not to go alone in unknown places. Its not just in India any where in the world. For security reasons.
I feel Mac & keen walking with joy on lungi, is the most a touristor can connect with inside Kerala and its people. Love watching ur vlogs guys. Cheers to Joy. Lots of love from Canada.
aw thank you so much for your kind comment. Cheers to Joy!
Among Kerala fishes I generally prefer Neymeen (King Fish). Kerala's state fish in Karimeen (Pearl Spot), which is great too but can be a tad bony.
I love the state fish, the bones are worth it😂❤
8:31 ഉള്ളിസുര മാസ്സ് എൻട്രി 🔥
Ur grasp on malayalam with that accent management awes me a lot😅, feels u had done much homework before u hit the launchpad 🎉
Wow thanks!! Keenan has the talent and loves to practice so I pick up what he says ❤
I get a craving for Indian food with nearly everyone of your vids! I also love how you engage with the locals, and visa-versa... what lovely, kind people you've encountered. And the Elephants!! Soooo Cool!!!
You’re the best Linda! Thanks for supporting us ❤❤
Say just "hello, hey" (instead "namaaskharam" always)🍒 in Kerala ❤ rocks could be slippery near water falls so be careful 💜 prefer tender coconut water, which is the best & purest 🍒
Love your mallu skills and exploration. Love to see this vlog away from home. Missed kerala so much.
Ayila fish is the Malayalam name for Mackerel 😊
It's so wholesome to see the village gather at the teashop to watch elephants drink water❤
Omg so wholesome❤❤❤ we loved it
"curry ayila" means, curry not ready yet.
It wasn't ayela (makarrel) fish curry.
It could be tuna 🐟.... 🐟... 🐟..
oooohh keenan could have been.... right?!?!?! WHAT!
Anakulum literally translates to Elephant Pond. In Malayalam Ana (A pronounced similarly to the A in Apple) means elephant and Kulam means pond.
Oooh cool thanks for this. Kulam is the end to a lot of cities we are noticing here
I also think about how they found these names lasting with kuam in it. It literally doesn't make sense. May be from the past.- keralite
When old people tell 5 minute walk, its Probably like 30-45 mins walk one way 😂😂 Loved the vlog
I have visited this place long back, the reason why these elephants come to this specific spot in the river to drink is, natural bubbles pop out from certain holes in this river, the water is little salty in taste. So the elephants love those salty water to drink.
Nobody knows why this bubbles pop out from water naturally?
Oh this is interesting! thanks for the comment, we were wondering why
Nice to watch our place from a foreigner perspective 🎉 . Gratitude for getting an opportunity to convey my excitement on Mack's creative 'lungi song' btw kaka (keenan 😛)is marvelous. Wish this channel could many more corners of world to us💛
Awww thanks so much for your message! Glad you like the lungi song. We love to get to know Kerala ❤ thank you so much for your kind words and support❤

yesss have been to Thodupuzha! cool place
Wow..rapid grip in Malayalam
Dawww thanks to Keenan!
11:39 U guys talking to the locals in malayalam is so nice to listen to. 20-30 min vlogs 👌.
More more vlogs to come. So eagerly waiting.
Awww thank you for your comment. Working on our next one for ya!
Many thanks to Mr. Joy for showing the beautiful place to the world. A surprise guide. Like Mr. Joy, the village people have to show the beautiful place to the visitors which is not in the Web site. Thanks to Mac and Keen for exploring the villages too..
Regards,
Always be careful where ever you go.
Love you guys 😘❤❤❤

Keep exploring guys have fun.😍
thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
Due to the current intense heat, it is natural for wild animals to come out of the forest in search of water. So the journey to the forest area is not very safe for these two or three months. Animals like tigers, elephants and wild buffaloes are also likely to show aggressive behavior due to this heat. People living in Kerala can handle the situation properly, foreigners beware. You can properly enjoy kerala beauty from July month.
ya Im a bit nervous for this... we are later going to the villages of wayanad..... where animals are about
I'm not sure if it was you we spoke to, but it certainly felt like it was both of you. My family and I spoke to you last month when we were in Anakulam at night. You both fed a stray dog, and then we had a brief chat. I'm not sure if you remember.I saw your video today, and that day immediately came to mind. There were a total of six of us-two children and two couples. We mentioned that we were from Kochi.
Yess that was us and we remember your family, at nighttime right?
@@Unstuk Yes☺️, my husband, I, and our cousins with their children. So happy that you remember us🥰.
@@Unstuk Macnkee, have you watched the movie 'Manjummel Boys'? That's where we are from(Kerala--> Ernakulam-->Manjummel). For your ease of identification, I mentioned Kochi (which is also in Ernakulam). Hope you don't mind☺️. Manjummel is our place, and the movie 'Manjummel Boys' is based on a real incident. You should come to visit our small place, Manjummel, one day. We don't have much to show, it's just a small place, but I hope you will enjoy it.
I subscribed your channel much love❣️ from Kerala❣️
Your all videos very interesting, thank you for visited my region kerala, and you come again 👍😄😄😄🙏🙏🙏
love from kerala❤
❤thank you 🫶🏼🙏🏼
Damn, you guys have picked up a fair bit of Malayalam already. Malayalam is generally considered as the hardest Indian language to master.
It's easy to pick up Tamil once you've learned Malayalam.
Wow that’s cool to know! We know some phrases that at least get us by and break the ice but man the pronunciation is difficult
Really happy to see your videos....❤❤❤❤ keep going.... ☺️
❤🎉aw thank you!!!
Hey guys! Just to clarify, the "aayilla" she said @10:33 does not mean the fish "ayila" (Mackerel). She meant the curry wasn't ready yet. It's a subtle difference, but the "aa" is longer and the "lla" is stronger. "Aayilla" roughly translates to "not yet". In this situation it meant "not done yet".
Aayo? is the question (Done?).
Aayi is the answer for yes (Done).
Aayilla (Aayi-illa) is the answer for no (Not done).
Also, 🤣The local on the top left (@8:30) is the current prime minister of India.
Hahahah amazing thanks for explaining to us!! Really helpful!
@@Unstuk glad I could help 😁👍
Ammachi: Kari ayilla.
Sayipp: oh curry aila🐟. Ok take it👍
😂😂 ❤️🫶
Nice to see both of you super Happy 🎉😂 must be very hot in Kerala now. Thanks to climate 🙄 change. Thanks for being a Roman in Kerala like when in Rome 🎉.

Curry ayeela (curry not ready)
Ayila Curry (Mackrel curry)
Aayilla means Not Done/Not Yet, here the A is longer and the L is stressed more. while Ayila means Mackerel Fish. So when you said Fish to her she thought yall wanted Fish and served the FIsh curry and normally fish isnt had with Porotta haha
Ahhh lol some massive miscommunication but ended up working out. Thanks for the message and insight!

I thought it was fish??
@@Unstuk'Eye-la' is Mackarel fish. 'Ah-yi-luh' means not done/not ready
Curry ayila was actually funny😂😂
❤❤❤
❤❤
Fish Ayala is Mackerel.
She was saying the curry isn't ready yet
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Really enjoying ur malayalam, but atleast u give a good try. Let me explain a bit the way u guys pronounced, the first word aayilla means, what she meant was the dish was not ready, actually its (ayila means name of a fish) the second one konnathil santhosham means , very much happy you killed me. actually its kandathil santhosham, happy to see you. anyway keep going and enjoy the trip.
aw thank you very much for your help and support
Guys, don't miss Thrissur Pooram on April 19th. Do mind the large crowds though.
We will try our best to be there 🎉 super excited
@@Unstuk I recommend you watch some videos of Thrissur Pooram to avoid the culture shock. I would also suggest you book hotels close to the Pooram grounds in advance since rooms get reserved away the closer you get to the event.
Pooram can be a great experience in the right setting but it can be overwhelming too if you're not prepared.
😍
❤️
She said aayilla... which means not ready...you guys mistook it to be ayila fish😂😂😂😂 that was funny as in films
Lmaoooo glad it was funny for you!!
❤
❤️❤️
14:00 is she alright? 😂
cool song tho⚡
'Ana' means 'Elephant'
'Kulam' means 'pool'
What about Mankulam??
@@Unstuk 'maan' means 'deer'
Ok so deer pond thanks
@@gsg9481 'Maavu'(mango tree) + 'kulam' is also 'Mankulam' 😜
Hay gay's 😊 good news India's biggest Holi festival is coming soon 26 march gay's so don't miss Holi ❤ enjoy your trip

22:05 white, green or the normal tea that we drink all are made from the same tea plant.
Bud is used to make white tea, the leaves just below( there will be two leaves) is used to make green tea. Normal tea will be the balance or all mixed together. White and green are hand picked one by one......
Mackerel fish curry is Ayala curry 😂 village old peoples they literals but not speaking English properly you find some youngsters 😂❤
Ayala is Mackerel

I'd generally endorse this advice in India but water in Kerala tends to be safe since it's well water most of the time. Kerala is blessed with natural water sources.
8:31 LMAO.. guys you may get banned for that🤣🤣.
