This Xterra is undergoing a head gasket replacement so there are a number of issues that will crop up. No, we didn't video the head gasket procedure itself (sorry).
That was a very helpful video mine is same vec with 149000 miles put in a new nappa stater son did great job he will clean the old one for a spare thank you🏆
Thank you man! My 04 Xterra stopped cranking at the gas station up the street, lucky enough there was a Orielly's right there, I was able to watch this video and replace it on the spot! Any other videos do very poorly at actually showing the Starter.
You are most welcome. We don't own that vehicle anymore, but when I run into something that isn't easy or on the net, I'll post it (if I figure it out).
Thanks much for the share. My starter wouldn't even click and no crank. Got underneath the X and checked for power to battery terminal and there was. So got the starter out and tested it. It was working fine :-(............. . Now I'm thinking what's the problem and guess it might be similar to yours. Where was the ground problem located and how did you diagnose it? Can you please help?
Good job here, Darren. How many miles on the Xterra? Amazon has brand new starters for $50 delivered. Was it run overheated to cause the head gasket failure?
Thanks Mel. I would have gone after a rebuilt starter, but daughter wanted to understand what was going on inside. Yes, she overheated it and kept driving after the coolant was nearly gone.
@@Videona Disconnected the positive cable from the starter. Cleaned it up with some brake clean and put back together. So far no more issues. But now I've noticed I'm getting an exhaust smell in the vehicle when the windows are up. Unrelated to the starter issue of course just working out the bugs of a 16yr old vehicle
@@paulpaz4546 - Nice. I removed my motor and tested and it seemed to run (both the bendix and rotation). I was like, what the hell. But then luckily I looked at this video (ruclips.net/video/qxcsSEVZcas/видео.html) and my motor sounded exactly a lazy motor before it totally failed. Went and replaced with a new OEM Mitsubishi motor and now runs like a top. Right now trying to test if I have a blocked catalytic converter. Will have to get this done at a mechanic as this will be a pressure test on the exhaust by reading from the place where the upstream O2 sensor is located. Anything above 3 Hg and will have to gut the cats...

Same thing, parked for a while now it won't start.
Thank you, your time and effort is appreciated!

Awesome! That is best that I have ever seen. Thanks!

Thank you. We do what we can.
Do tell me you help your starter with not failing on you later than it would had you not cleaned it. Great find and great filming.
Thank you!
Yes, it worked well until my daughter got rid of it. Thanks for the comment.

Mahalo (Thank you dearly.)

Paul - Any way you resolved that?
