Miller nailed it when he said the hardest shot in golf is the next one after a shank
I miss his commentary so much
No, the hardest shot in golf is a 2 footer for birdie
Johnny Miller pulled NO punches and gave ZERO f**ks who the player was. If they made a poor choice or a bad swing that ended up costing them he would critique them the same as he would anyone else including himself. That sort of raw honesty rubbed some viewers the wrong way at times but I tend to think it made him just about the best play by play analyst ever in televised professional golf. I genuinely miss Johnny Miller. If I’m being honest I also miss Nick Faldo on CBS, and Paul Azinger on NBC (took over for Miller and got hung out to dry by the network over money). Jim Nantzypants is too much of a dill hole to ever really respect or enjoy.
That shank would have shot his confidence to bits.
That applause at the end atleast made him smile. He also handled that like a gentleman and a pro. He didn't blame his caddy. He didnt break his club. 2 of those shots were EXCELLENT. Literally missed edge by a few inches. I think he handled himself very well and I hope he atleast realizes that in hindsight. Well done sir.😃👍
Finally a professional golf video I can relate to.
Golf is hard.
+Ryan Hall they clearly don't shoot under par every single time they play all year long. Jason Day shot one over par 73 on Saturday and he won the tournament.
It is difficult. Golf is actually soft, really soft.
Golf is now, has always been, and always will be a four letter word in every sense.
Peter T 😂
Golf is a bad four letter word
Russell Knox is my new favorite golfer, just because of that fist pump at the end.
Literally my daily golf game.
If you don’t feel for this guy, you have no heart!!
Did he lost both legs in a car crash?
And yet I feel nothing 😕
@@macbrowning And yet you might be a sociopath.
Loved his smile from the crowd's applause at the end!
Well on the bright side, it made for a good youtube video.
Mca0824 😂
The mental game on this hole is terrifying
The absolute worst part of it was that he had to keep on staring at his partner's ball
Golf is the devils game! I can play so well at times, makes me believe I,m good lol. Then you collapse and start cussing!
so true lol
With you there. shot -2 the other day then 85, shited every thing. I usually blame my clubs.
amen
Just happened to me a few days ago, I had been playing my best golf shooting consistently in the 70s then one day my swing and feel just disappeared like I hadn’t played in 3 months.. crazy game
I was +4 after 15 today and was looking to shoot mid 70s. Doubled the last 3 holes to shoot an 82
That’s the attitude n spirit of a good sportsman !!
All of that hard work to get to 8 under and that one hole sets back all of your progress…golf is tough
My first thought was Who's ball is inches from the Cup?
who was it?
Mine
No...Who was on the 16th green,
Literally my daily golf game.
Saucy club twirl after the shank
Knox it into the water that many times!... had to Russel up some strength for the shot from the drop zone.
Wow...
Awful... just awful 😂🤦🏼♂️
Knocked it
That was expensive
The 17th at Sawgrass is one of the most devilish holes in all of golf. Much like the 8th at Royal Troon, there is extremely little room for error.
I like him more after watching this. He took it well.
My respect to the crowd!!!
One good thing, he got as much applause as if he’d won.
Can’t help but smile after that.
That’s golf. Happens to the best and worst of us. 💯💯💯💯💯
He handled that really well. I love the club twirl after the shank. And he earned a lot of applause and good will after finally hitting the green. :)
I played the Stadium course on a Monday after the Tourney in I believe 1995, the rough was up and the greens were like pool tables but I had a pretty good day hitting fairways and I had a pretty good short game so I ended up shooting 81 (had a 79 in sight but bogeyed 16 and 18)...I bogeyed 16 so was steamed and wasn't looking at 17, but when the carts came around the bend when I saw the island the first thing I thought was Wow, that looks big. They had us at the pro tee box and our yardage was 138, which was a perfect 9 iron for me and the 9 was my favorite club so I felt really happy on the tee box. I really flushed it and ended up way on the top of the hill and had a very long two putt but I made par. I was the only one in my foursome to hit the green so when everyone else hit a 2nd shot, so did I. My second shot I hit a full pitch and smoked it, hit near the pin on the slope but spun back off and went in the water....lesson learned...it is a tricky hole but the target is damn big. I honestly don't remember there being much wind on my shots so perhaps that made it easier.
Russell is now a proud graduate of the School of Hard Knox.
Underrated comment
my kind of humor well done sir.
Buh-dmm-tssss
I see what you did here. Great comment.
Golf Digest did an interview with Pete Dye a couple of years after the TPC opened and he said exactly what Gary said. The green is larger than average and it's a shot of 132 yards and if it was grass from tee to green these guys would never miss the green. I remember when I played the Old Course in St. Andrews you are always thinking about the Road Hole for the first 16 holes. Playing the TPC would have to be similar.
I'm reading a book about golf psychology and this incident actually comes up. Russell is so good at hitting greens in regulation, and it's only playing 126 yards here. He thought he stiffed his first. As soon as his first ball went in the water he said it felt like the green shrank to the size of a quarter.
He realized in retrospect he got psyched out. And rebounded to have a good 4th round.
Golf is so much about managing the mental aspect.
I got to play the stadium course on a Monday after the tournament (1995 I believe)...and yes the rough was brutal and the greens were like pool tables, but luckily I was on my game and ended up shooting 82 from the blues, but I butchered 16 and got a double (so there went my chance at shooting in the 70's) so I was so pissed when we rounded the corner I wasn't even thinking about the Island green and when I saw it the first thing I thought was "Jesus, what a big target", it was playing 141 which my 9i being a nice 148 club with a full swing, I just hit a nice easy 9, right in the middle of the green...the other guys in my foursome all got wet (multiple times...my best friend kept trying and finally we joked, Tom, the lake is rising you've hit so many balls in it). Then just for grins I hit a mulligan and stood on a pitch wedge and flushed it and it hit the back bank and spun back within about 15 feet of the cup...I ran it by 3 feet and missed it coming back for a bogie. Anyway it really is a huge target, but hazards never have bothered me....I just hit to a yardage.
Love your vids, keep it up
His shank nearly landed on the little garden island. Could you swim over and play it from there? Is it GUR?
I'm guessing that it's part of the hazard. Also before this year you couldn't ground your club in a hazard so that would take swimming over there out of the picture. Maybe a boat?
You can swim over, but they won’t let u take a boat out of anything like that, u just have to swim
0:43 when the crowd gasped 🤣🤣 they all saw he shanked it but everyone was just hoping the ball stay dry lol
Props to him for all his recent success. But how is he #3 in the FedEx cup and yet the first highlight I see of him is him imploding on the 17th. Some guys just get no coverage..
Hes #3 in the FedEx cup in GIR
At least he club twirled his shank 😂
Well that's why I'm addicted to golf somewhat... it's the good shots that keep bringing me back😅
Just watching this made my jaw drop. 😮
As a kid after me putting two in the water - My Dad: "Okay that's enough. Just walk it up to the green. You're losing too many balls." 🤣
Knox committed another mistake in the drop zone , he drop his ball from shoulder height which is no longer allowed he should be penalize for another stroke. Present rules require you to drop from knee height
Makes me feel good knowing I hit the green and three putted.
Pete and Alice Dye knew what they were doing with this hole 😭⛳️ it’s terrifying
One of us. One of us.
The crowd was great!
Pretty sure he made a six over par nine. Not a nine over par.
*shots fired*
Love the club twirl after the shank.
Hindsight is a great thing! Wonder if he'd wished he had gone to the drop zone straight away?
Golf is relaxing😊
I remember seeing this on TV. I was funny, yet kind of sad.
Man, that sucks. Some days, golf is just hard. Even when you've shot 8 under on the sixteen holes beforehand...
what would he had to do if he shanked the ball on to the island to the right??? LOL
I do this all the time, I should be on the pga tour.
Club up!!
gosh I feel for him
One of us.
Just like Sergio at the Master!
Or Sergio at the Players!
1:38 "not even close" as the ripples are right at the base board of the island...
He was being like greg norman ,who routinely fizzled on and off the course - the toothless shark..hahajaja
He is resupplying the water with balls
I have one of those holes every round.
I can finally play like a pro!!
If a player runs out of balls in their bag does that end their round or can they borrow one or ask somebody to get some more from their locker? Can they use some lost ball they happen to find?
Eh, just a normal way I'd play this hole!
Someone has to ask that announcer what he meant by "Eventually someone has to stand up and "take it"."
+Aaron Hill take it like a man...or if you want to interpret it the other way.....
I feel his pain.
a good guy
He made tin cup proud
He was doing pretty good too
Shot tracer looked like old missle command video game
It’s a hard knox life for us
I do this every time i play👍
5 mph wind to the right yet the flag blowing slightly to the left @ 1 mph tops lol... interesting
That would have been a good day for me!
Did he make the putt?
that was painful to watch for my self and for him
Six over par. You'd expect the PGA Tour to get the scorecard correct.
How come he goes to the drop zone for 7th shot?
Club twirl on a shank lol
哈哈哈,观众都开心死了!这才是群众喜闻乐见的高尔夫运动!
Saw a video of a guy taking a 66 on this hole. Really.
I'm guessing he got a 9, not a 9 over par 12? On the green in 7?
Rough day for russel
issa shank
I played the stadium course on the Monday after the '92 tourney...the rough had not been cut and the greens were still rolling at twelves. If you got in the rough you were dead but if you found the fairway you had the best lie of your life, the ball sat up perfectly. I had a very good round going and had I parred in from 16 I could have shot 79 so was super psyched for the last three holes, but I duck hooked one into the woods on 16 and ended up making an a triple bogie 8 and was so hot I completely forgot about the next hole being the island green. As we rounded the bend in the carts and I got my first look, my first thought was Wow that is a big target, I was really surprised me how big the green looked. They had the blues at the pro tee box that day and the yardage was 134. My pitch wedge if I really stood on it was a 135 yd club but I decided to hit a smooth 9 iron. The pin was in the same position as this video...not much wind, perhaps helping/hindering left to right at 5 mph. I flushed the 9 iron and ended up at the back of the green and had a LONG putt. I was the only one in my foursome to hit the green on their first swing and everyone kept hitting balls...no one wanted to use the drop area. During the mayhem I decided to hit a pitch and again completely flushed it...hit right below the pin took one hop then spun back and went in the water. I ended up three putting for a bogey and missed my par putt on 18 for a five and shot 84 for the day....I was a bit disappointed in blowing up on 16 but overall ecstatic with my round, I hit a lot of good drives and my short game was very sharp all day...I even hit one amazing flop shot on I believe 8 out of trouble to allow a one putt par that a Ranger saw that made him drive over and comment what a great shot that was.
I shot even par a couple of days ago, but Lord knows I've had a few 90+ rounds before. Golf is hard.
If Sergio did this it would be epic
The other two players almost holed out
why did you tee it up again
why he changed to tee box after 3 balls in water? can anyone tell me the rule?
The players have the option to hit from the drop area after hitting into the hazard. A lot of players choose not to hit from it though because it's placed at an awkward yardage
Spordan Jieth as a junior that’s the yardage I can spin it from that’s the best yardage to get. But the awkward yardage for me is 40-60
That's a shank!
A nonuple bogey.
I wish I could get out of my head and pull the trigger to shell out close to $700 to play the course... but I would probably shoot a 20 on that hole. Hahaha
$700 to park your car maybe
We've all been there
I can’t imagine how horrible it would feel infront of all those people
From the camera angle I thought he hit the first one to a foot
Sometimes you just get in a bad groove --like hiccups that won't stop ...That's why it's so much fun !! )))
Club twirling shanks. He plays just like me.
Thank god Jonny Miller is off the air
We cheer because we play.
I would have done the moon walk after the fourth shot.
Unfortunately it's easy to relate too...
he should go and drop un thé drop zone on hid third shot after his shank
I felt so bad for Russell.
