BTW Makoto stealing info from her sis's laptop was EXTREMELY RISKY, the maximum sentence for stealing documents from a lawyer in Japan is 20 years for an adult, and Makoto is 18. If she got caught and her sister turned her in Makoto it would had her life completely ruined.

Considering the year this game came out the age of an adulthood in Japan was 20, she would have been tried as a minor if she was caught. They only recently changed the adulthood age to 18. Its pretty crazy when you think that its been 20 for over 140 years.
@wisefelipe That's what it is *now,* but before 2022, it was age 20 for everything. P5 (and it's spin-offs as of Tactica) takes place roughly in 2016-2017. So Makoto (and even Akechi too, now that JC's gotten that far) would've been tried as a minor since the "age of adulthood" hadn't been lowered yet.
I just realized this detail. Here at 59:13 you can see Ryuji was the first one running in response to Morgana's voice, despite them having an argument a moment ago. Deep down He cared for Morgana
It was toned down a _little_ in Royal, but Morgana and Ryuji were constantly sniping at each other. Calling each other a stupid cat/monkey, all kinds of stuff. But once Futaba joins, *_more than half the team_* calls Morgana useless (Ryuji, Ann, Makoto, and Yusuke), and while Makoto and Yusuke do it by damning Mona with faint praise (they compliment Futaba in such a way that Morgana takes it as an insult), Ann is just teasing (which doesn't work since Morgana's crush on her makes him take it seriously), and Ryuji's just continuing with their normally scheduled arguments. To TLDR, while Ryuji is expecting this to just be another part of their Vitriolic Best Buds banter, the others not standing up for Morgana makes it actually hurt, especially since he was already worried that he *_was_* useless. And yet everyone acts like Ryuji is the only one at fault. This is my least favorite part of the game, for that reason alone.
@@SuperiorPosterior thank you! Everyone talks about how it's all Ryuji's fault but fail to see everyone is at fault for how Morgana feels. Morgana tried to reach out to the others to talk about his feelings, but everyone ultimately ignores him. Did everyone forget one of Joker's dialogue choices when they were about to split was "what's gotten into you Morgana"? Even when Ryuji blatantly calls him useless at the beach, no one said anything about it. Everyone had a part in the split.
Haru's costume is based on being a traitor, betraying expectations. You'd think she's a nice girl with flowery florish or whatever, but she's Heavy Weapons Guy. And is the strongest gun user.
@@JCbackfire Fun fact, the Haru bot, and by extension that repetitive line and extra phase fighting her at the end, were added in the Royal version of the game. They made a conscious choice to make the Okumura boss fight more annoying. And players already tended to complain about it in vanilla P5. Atlus was trolling us for certain here. ...Which, I can kinda respect in a twisted way. Still at the very least stupid the countdown moves during dialogue, though, with how much there is.
57:05 From what I think, it seems that Ryuji genuinely doesn’t care what Morgana ends up being, in the sense that he accepts him just as who he is, whether that’s a cat, a human, or some other third thing, since they’re friends and teammates. It’s just that Ryuji doesn’t know how to word that properly with Morgana, either because it’s Ryuji being Ryuji moment or because it’s difficult being sincere with someone he tends to bicker with.
Quite a few characters in this game are neurodivergent coded, and Ryuji is one of them. Definitely ADHD at the very least, and one symptom of ADHD is saying insensitive things because you didn’t think your words through before you spoke.

The full okumura experience. Yes, the boss reworks for royal made this the toughest boss in the game for the point you fight them. Now here's the catch: the change has an unintended consequence. Merciless, the "hardest" difficulty is often debated to be easier than hard because of okumura specifically. Merciless generally cranks up the difficulty, but they add one double-edged sword to complicate matters, and okumura falls to the side of it that benefits the player.
At least, for the waves of bots you need to kill simultaneously. The single target enemies at the end don't have weaknesses to exploit, so they're just tougher, especially if you've never had a chance to figure out the actual mechanics behind how Big Band Challenge works. Still probably technically worthwhile for the net time saved on those early waves, though.
@@Shalakor like i said, "debatable". Even then, i meant it more as okumura being a microcosm of what merciless does to the game and less about okumura himself. In merciless, by the time you reach okumura, you have access to every mechanic that can remove weaknesses from your characters, joker even more so than the rest, so the double edged sword's edge that can fall on the player has been dulled to oblivion. From there, taking out the waves quickly gives you more time for the real boss, and unlocking network fusions within the place itself means you likely have a persona overpowered enough to make it a joke, weaknesses or no. Also worth noting is that the game cant take technicals away from you outside of making enemies and bosses immune to certain statuses., and the game always leaves at least one you can exploit. It is not impossible to have guarenteed tech knockdowns by that point, and only becomes ever more likely when you know what you are doing or are in ng+ to skip 90% of the grind to unlock it (only needing to wait for the location and time blocks needed to get there instead of the skill checks that act as the primary gate.).
@@cullenlatham2366 Yeah. Merciless is in my opinion easier because of the double edge. I have been playing with a mod so the enemies have more HP and overall you never realise how much more damage you take overall because most fights can end in 1-2 turns because of you able to hit weakness, if you don't the fights actually get start getting hard. Not mentioning that in merciless difficulty you gain 20% more exp, so if you are like me by the point you get to okumura you may actually even have heavy elemental damage or at least (element) boost, which is a 25% damage increase. The reason why Okumura ends up being difficult is because the last 2 rows are weak to an element and bless or curse, which by that point you don't have a party member with those skills. So in the first waves you have 3 party members that can hit weakness if you count joker, while in the last ones you only have two counting joker. Now, how I think the boss fight is SUPPOSED to be done is by using items and baton pass? During the palace when stealing mini treasures/search objects you get elemental items and you can use the shady commodities to buy elemental magatamas, so what I think you are supposed to do in the fight is use those to crank up the baton pass with the party members who can't hit weakness and then pass the baton to the ones who are specialized in those elementels and joker. However never in the game are you really incentiviced? Like, in P4 you are showed by basically make you require to use them in the tutorial fights to survive. In P5 you are never showed that these items exist in the first place???
@@masterblaster38 well, royal adds accessories with offensive skills, and they are consistent to obtain once you understand the electric chair and fusion alarms, so that is an alternative to consumables to get more elements to work with in knockdowns (if you dont mind leaving your own weaknesses open), but generally speaking, yes, that is the intended out. More specifically, stick to single targets for the weakness hits to build up baton passes, then hit them all with a powerful multi-target weak element (or a powerful phys skill. Almighty can fall short and i know that from experience with an almighty boost/amp [cant remember which] seth from my first playthrough.) Items fill the same role with much weaker damage output, and they are quite easy to stockpile especially with mementos grind, but it isnt the only option. If anything, the bigger problem is that players eventually have to make a choice between what skills their party members will keep, and that can be the "wrong" choice of dropping single target while keeping coverage with multitarget; a "mistake" i made in my first playthrough without keeping the break skills to compliment them, leaving me constantly punished by reflect until confidant rank 10 with the characters in question, and something that made okumura that much harder to do blind. XD As for never being taught about the items, well, that is more an issue with video game literacy and different habits. Let's not forget P5 and P5R are rated M for Mature (mostly earned through kamoshida, admittedly) by the ESRB, and with that rating comes some expected level of video game literacy and competency, so they dont really need to explain the concept of consumable items. The other factor is much harder to account for, and gets into the psychology of playing a game. Even in my own experience, i had to teach myself to be willing to part with items instead of hoarding them for that oh so common "but what if i need them for the final boss, superbosses, postgame, or in some rarer cases crafting/forging/upgrading (epic battle fantasy series)?" excuse. That latter factor has been explored before, even here on youtube. Just as examples, ive watched both razbuten and design doc both cover the topic.
@@cullenlatham2366 Oh yeah. That's what I meant for items, use a 1 hit item for the weakness then baton pass to Joker/party member with weakness. Even if they have lower damage, they are more than enough. You can use accesories, however I never actually used them until my NG+ and I can see most players that aren't people who max out everything ignoring that idea, but I can easily see how you can make a team able to hit weaknesses. But like I said the main problem is the last waves, specially because they have even higher health values than the ones you fight through the Palace for some reason. (Also fun fact: in the translation to spanish, some of the items say that they hit every enemy when they actually only hit one. Learned It after a while.) Also, the consumable items problem was also one that I had, but in NG+ I actually realised how expendable items actually are simply because of Takemi being able to give you basically 200 heal to everyone and full hp revive items. In fact after learning about items and actually using them I made Morgana, Makoto and Haru forget their skills of healing status ailments and revival skills and Haru forget shield because It is pretty easy in Royal to get items that do the same things with anybody's turn. Then again like I said, if you play on merciless difficulty you probably have a very high level and the fight should be easy. There is also another stupid way to cheese the fight, and is that I am pretty sure that you are able to put the robots to sleep and other ailments (and in fact the last robot of all is able to be Frozen) so I am pretty sure that an Ann + Sleep boost from the shop can probably build a very high baton pass by using lullaby instead of having to use weakness. Where the fight sucks is if your main team IS about physicall attacks like your main joker persona being that, because they resist It (But Yusuke with freeze boost can also work just as Ann's lullaby).

really they could at least stop the timer for the dialogue and some animations... but NO! is the only fight I fell needs some rebalance, not because is hard, but because is pure pain for a first time player, if you know exactly what you are doing and the mechanics the boss is not hard, but still so repetitive...
sooooo. for plot purposes the game assumes that you did every palace on the last possible day to do it. so its not as delayed as you think. its just a thing the plot has to assume in the background foro things to make sense. honestly its a weakness of letting you do the boss fight whenever.
Yeah, kinda feels like the Calling Card should be forced to happen at the last day possible in every arc, using the same cognition excuse as the one used for needing a Calling Card in the first place. At least, in Royal version where you're no longer locked out of doing a bunch of social stuff until you finish the Palace like you were in vanilla P5.

@@michaelzoller5303 Something funny is that in P5 and P5R they made so that if the deadline is in 7 days or lower, party members confidants won't be able to be done as they will all be worring about it. However if you have the treasure route already done, you can do the confidants (You just need to remember to actually send the calling card before the deadline actually expires to not get a game over) If anyone says that it is annoying, in P4 and P4G you couldn't do ANYTHING party member confidant related until you completed the "palace" of that moment, which was sometimes annoying. In P5 and P5R there is only like 3 things you are not able to do until you clean the palace which one of them is going to the cinema until you have steal the treasure of Kamosida's palace.
OMG I LITERALLY REWATCHED ARC 4 YESTERDAY TO REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED! That aside, JC has THE MOST entraining P5 Playthrough I've ever watched, and I eagerly await these, especially now that he's in the latter half of the game, so in short, JC and Satchel are awesome, keep it up!❤

P5 spoilers that happened *IN The VIDEO* (aka spoilers for this video, not the game) Also, this comment is long (and I mean really long. it's an essay, sorry about that LOL) and details personal thoughts. I just got to the "secret palace" and the way I just started grinning like an absolute madman. Let me tell you about how much I love Kasumi, she's literally my favorite character, and I'm glad you've been like "oh my god kasumi's really cool I love her what the heck is going on" instead of this one streamer I've seen sometimes who absolutely loathes her and dies inside whenever she's on-screen. Won't mention his name. Btw her awakening was one giant sailor moon reference. That being said, this entire section of the game is her perfect introduction to being a phantom thief. Edit: I'll say it again. I have 800+ hours in this game, I've replayed it multiple times, but watching you play this is like experiencing the game for the first time and I've been loving every moment so far. Genuinely, you are becoming my favorite RUclipsr. Screw it, idk if you'll read this reply, but I'm definitely gonna start checking your streams out on twitch or whatever you play on. Keep it absolutely real. Edit 2: SAE ARC LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! CAN'T WAIT!! DUUUUUDE! Edit 3: I'll honest though, Morgana's exit felt extremely forced and written to be out of character. Like, the game needed a reason to have Morgana leave, get beaten up, meet haru and then haru joins, but they couldn't figure out a way to write that, so they just had Morgana take personal offence to ryuji's comments when he got annoyed at best in previous arcs. But that's just my take and whether or not that's an agreeable take is to be debated, obviously. Edit 4: Yeah, the boss is my least favorite, but not because it's poorly-designed, but because it suddenly relies on a mechanic that maybe a majority of the playerbase doesn't use as often. It's an arbitrary wall that players find out while fucking around trying to find out. The game doesn't actively enforce the baton pass mechanic throughout the game, it's kinda just... there. and then boom, you're forced to use it while never being told that's what you're supposed to do. If you played the vanilla game though, you would've had a far less enjoyable time though. It is so much more punishing in P5 base (not royal). Hard agree with the dialogue take in the boss fight as well. I genuinely wish the timer could've paused while text was up, but I get that it would've messed up the flow of the battle, but at the same time, it messes up the vibes of the boss because you don't have time to read it. Ugh, that part I hate.

Makoto best girl! Loving your playthrough and your reactions! I finished Royal recently and loved it as much as I loved vanilla years ago, it's such a great game. Okumura was such a pain in the ass! It took me hours to manage, it made me so mad my fiancé started laughing at a certain point because he was making me growl out of anger
I have gotten SO addicted to this playthrough, that I now have to go watch the VODs, and if I'm lucky, watch the remainder of the game on twitch as you stream it. 😭
Just beat persona 5 Strikers, bit hard to get into but once it got going it was an absolute blast, would definitely recomend once you're done with royal! I'll propably get tactica relatively soon, and Phantom X is also making progress in its development, so it's looking to be a year full of persona for me😊
Honestly in any other scenario i would have kinda condemned using someone elses lvl 90+ lilim on a boss a little bit, but i completely understand just wanting the okumura fight to be over, that was totally valid! Also after that loss by a hair to harubots self destruction, literally the last attack in the whole fight, I would go through that next attempt using gigantomachia at every step of the way, would not judge you one bit for that, i felt that loss in my bones!
It wasn't someone else's. He fused it using one of his and one of someone else's that was level 90. As someone who played these games too much, having brave blade and gigantomachia is nothing compared to summoning Izanagi no Okami Picaro and Myriad Truths your way to victory.
I've never really been a fan of the whole Morgana and Ryuji conflict. I mean, Morgana has been rude to Ryuji for most of the game so far. Both in normal game and as a Navigator. When Joker misses an enemy, Morgana says, "You missed? Come on, Joker" as if encouraging him to do better or try again. When Skull missed an enemy, Morgana goes, "Oh, Skull. You're pathetic" and several other passive aggressive taunts either about Ryuji or his intelligence. But the ONE time Ryuji offers a little pushback, suddenly Morgana's pride is wounded. Now I won't say Morgana feeling useless(don't look, Makoto) wasn't foreshadowed or shown before. But like I said, Morgana has been mean to Ryuji all game. So it's no surprise that Ryuji didn't take kindly to the group just comforting Morgana. But oh well. This arc is a lot of people's least favorites for a reason
They both are responsible for all of it blowing up in their face and Morgana is acting like a stubborn child. Me thinks that if they paced this part a bit better and didn't punish the player mechanically so much, people might've not liked it but it wouldn't be so universally panned.
It's so frustrating because Morgana has been so needlessly mean to Ryuji literally from the minute that they met, always answering everything Ryuji said or did with some kind of insult. It feels like such a disproportionate response when Morgana blows up at Ryuji for offering up the mildest of insults, considering the way he's been treating Ryuji for this game's entire run. And even when they're making amends, no one at any point calls Morgana out on his behavior. On the one hand, I *want* to feel bad for Morgana because, as someone who had dealt with general self-worth issues, I know very well how much of a nightmare that kind of headspace is to be in; but on the other hand, the fact that he's been a huge jerk for this entire game makes it very hard to feel bad for him. And the worst part of it all is that he seriously undercuts Haru's entire introduction to the story; she feels almost like a side character in what should be her focal arc because so much of it is taken up by his petty drama.
I will say, I disagree with the "Morgana's been mean to Ryuji the whole game" sentiment. They've both been taking playful jabs at eachother throughout the whole game. Ryuji probably gets the end of it more, but I really don't think it's as one sided as people say. They're both the most "picked on" characters in the game. Infact, both in this arc and throughout the whole game, I think it's the REST of the theives that come across as overly mean to Ryuji. Because at least with him and Mona, they're clearly just going for the "2 idiots that butt heads" trope, while Ryuji's connections with everyone else is less defined.
I love this game but could never find a good YT channel to watch it on. After so long I came across someone who makes the game feel fresh and exciting like when I played it for the first time. Love your vids JC!!💯

Found ur channel through the yt vids and I loved it sm! I went back and got caught up with all the vods and am excited to see the rest of your journey through this game! I would highly recommend playing P5 Strikers and maybe Tactica as well, if the viewers wanna see it. I’d love to. But you can always come back to them after playing the other mainline games like P3 and P4. If you play them, either way this has prolly been one of the most fun and unique playthroughs of this game I’ve seen so keep it up! Also side note I recommended checking out the Dancewear and Christmas outfits for Morgana on stream cuz they’re hilarious 🤣 Dancewear especially, it’s so ridiculous I love it Oh and one last thing, I saw you compare the next palace ruler to Bayonetta on stream and that’s my fav game series ever so I’m curious if you’ve played them. If not I would LOVE to watch that but I know ur backlog is already huge so no rush lol

27:57 Definitely want to see you going through the confidant stories in addition to this story series. The confidant stuff is a major part of the game, and while I'm super excited that you've been having fun with the game it's been a bummer to not see your reactions to the additional character stories between the major plot points. Your media literacy is impressive and hearing your thoughts at the end of every video is interesting as someone who's played this story nearly a dozen times since it first came out. A fresh take is sometimes what a person like me needs to hear. Can't wait to see more videos in the future!

I love how this boss teaches you a lot of things about the combat. Some times all out attacks are good but not always because as long as you down an enemy, you still get a "one more". Also if you hate the timed battle, be ready for Persona 3 Reload. You are gonna have "fun".

1 Hour ago! okumuras fight is a pain in the ass, they made it worse by taking the all out attacks and making the enemies reset if you dont kill them all in one go, and with a timer!
A game that has urged you up until now to "take your time" strips that luxury away and spits in your face with this boss fight. But Persona games have always found unique ways to teach you how to appreciate and manage your time with what you have, this is just another way of doing it.
Shadow Okumura's boss fight made me almost throw my console. That is until I realized I could use items to attack affinity weaknesses. I attacked each robot one at a time. I let the first teammate attack one robot's weakness with an item (if the current teammate doesn't have the affinity) and then baton-passed to the next teammate. The next teammate would do the same (attack one robot's weakness) and then baton pass. My last baton pass was to Joker (who would then have max damage) and made him use a skill that attacks all foes at the same time!
The revamped Okumura fight was the biggest bullsh*t ever... I'm still mad about that change years later... Makoto is always the right choice by the way. ;)
Joker should ALWAYS have Persona to cover any element. That's just safe and smart gameplay. And you also seemed underleveled for that fight. I was caught off guard by the changes in Royal Okumura fight versus the original version, and I still cleared it first try with 7 minutes to spare. At least you had best Persona (Lilim) at the time.

Shoutout to another incredible video from an incredible play through of an incredible game o7 I was completely baffled with the miracle punch strategy for the boss fight; not in a hater way by any means, rather how lucky you have to be for it to work. And it did! I know all the arcs are great in their own regards but I really think this is one of the best rising action arcs in how it builds the story. Looking forward to your streams of arc 6!!!

I appreciate a flawed character that shows growth over the course of the story (I'm a Mishima defender as well lol), even though they didn't do as great a job with the writing here imo, hahaha!
WHOLLY agree with this explanation of morgana's character, the only thing i'd personally add on is that in my opinion, i don't think this mini-arc itself was out of place or too forced or anything. the fact that this fallout happened AT ALL makes sense. was the cause for it rather simple and a bit childish even? yeah, it was, and under normal circumstances, it was something you could've easily talked out and moved on from. but people tend to forget that as cool and badass as the thieves can be, at the end of the day, this group you're playing as/with is a bunch of 16-17 year olds and a cat with amnesia, each of them more traumatized than the next, that have taken on the very ambitious but also somewhat naive goal to reform SOCIETY. i don't expect the majority of them to handle conflict all that well; hell, the way some of them grew so nervous over not immediately being able to decide on their next target SHOWED that. i think that despite morgana's outburst having seemingly come "out of nowhere" (which i don't even see that way- morgana had been going through his own existential crisis and growing insecurities for a WHILE by then, this, while not directly related, was simply the straw that broke the camel's back), the things he said were TRUE. the thieves were being very hesitant, albeit for understandable reasons, but they clearly weren't going to talk things out properly in that state. his dig at ryuji in particular made sense too, because out of the whole group, he was the one whose attitude had been changing the most. he'd let the fame get to his head too much, had been very vocal about just wanting people to know of his deeds and praise him. besides that, him and morgana have been at each other's throats throughout the whole game, although it never went beyond petty insults thrown at each other in the heat of the moment. in fact, i wager that's exactly why ryuji acted so dismissive about morgana leaving in the first place. to him, this might've just been another childish spat between them, while to morgana it was much more. ryuji didn't know about/understand all of mona's internal struggles, to him this issue was a lot simpler. in fact, by the time they found haru being assaulted by her fiancé, i'm pretty sure ryuji was already long over it. he didn't even hesitate lashing out at the guy once he saw morgana (his "the hell are you doing to our friend" was imo NOT directed at haru but mona, seeing as they'd barely known her by then, and he only yelled it right after seeing mona on the ground), and was back to treating him the same as always, just like everyone else. now, the thing that DID bother me throughout this spectacle wasn't the fight as a whole, or these 4 ingame days we spent on it. it was that we were stuck in joker's pov the WHOLE time. i would've loved if instead of just playing as him, they'd let us actually play as mona and/or haru a couple times. SHOW us how mona went into the palace by himself and got his ass kicked, how haru found him, them getting to know each other, her incomplete awakening, etc. keep what we already had and just add these scenes to help us understand both of them better. ...my god this was long and messy. anyway, i will now retreat into my corner, hope everyone's having a lovely day/night!

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that it feels out of place, just that it could've been written in BETTER. I think this mini-arc definitely has its place in the story, but for me, personally, it left a little to be desired in how it was handled from a writing standpoint. I hard agree with the fact that many people tend to forget/ignore just HOW YOUNG our protagonists are. They are teens trying to reform society. It can be easy to overlook, especially with how Makoto and Haru often act mature beyond what people might expect from characters their age, but then we have to remind ourselves that they are how they are, because they were forced to grow up VERY quickly due to their circumstances. I fully expect them to be childish and downright unreasonable at times. Ryuji and Mona specifically are on two sides of a spectrum when it comes to not thinking things through enough and overthinking and I think that's where a lot of the tension comes from, because neither is particularly patient with the other when disagreeing. But that in no way means they aren't friends or don't care about each other, Morgana is simply the much more insecure one about it, that's why Ryuji was so much quicker to let the conflict go, but someone like Morgana will continue struggle with doubts if the conflict isn't properly resolved. All that just to once again say, that I agree with you on that part, haha!

Okumura's boss fight is wildly established to be the worst boss fight in the game, for good reason I'm glad you survived it😂 The boss narratively makes sense, but they definitely should have worked it better. Pretty much the only way you have a good time is if you know how the fight goes already, and stock up on weakness gems. If you don't it is definitely an experience. 😅 The game only gets crazier from here, can't wait to see your reactions❤

Considering the year this game came out the age of an adulthood in Japan was 20, she would have been tried as a minor if she was caught. They only recently changed the adulthood age to 18. Its pretty crazy when you think that its been 20 for over 140 years.

It was toned down a _little_ in Royal, but Morgana and Ryuji were constantly sniping at each other. Calling each other a stupid cat/monkey, all kinds of stuff. But once Futaba joins, *_more than half the team_* calls Morgana useless (Ryuji, Ann, Makoto, and Yusuke), and while Makoto and Yusuke do it by damning Mona with faint praise (they compliment Futaba in such a way that Morgana takes it as an insult), Ann is just teasing (which doesn't work since Morgana's crush on her makes him take it seriously), and Ryuji's just continuing with their normally scheduled arguments.
To TLDR, while Ryuji is expecting this to just be another part of their Vitriolic Best Buds banter, the others not standing up for Morgana makes it actually hurt, especially since he was already worried that he *_was_* useless.
And yet everyone acts like Ryuji is the only one at fault.
This is my least favorite part of the game, for that reason alone.

Morgana tried to reach out to the others to talk about his feelings, but everyone ultimately ignores him. Did everyone forget one of Joker's dialogue choices when they were about to split was "what's gotten into you Morgana"? Even when Ryuji blatantly calls him useless at the beach, no one said anything about it. Everyone had a part in the split.

@@JCbackfire Fun fact, the Haru bot, and by extension that repetitive line and extra phase fighting her at the end, were added in the Royal version of the game. They made a conscious choice to make the Okumura boss fight more annoying. And players already tended to complain about it in vanilla P5. Atlus was trolling us for certain here. ...Which, I can kinda respect in a twisted way. Still at the very least stupid the countdown moves during dialogue, though, with how much there is.
57:05 From what I think, it seems that Ryuji genuinely doesn’t care what Morgana ends up being, in the sense that he accepts him just as who he is, whether that’s a cat, a human, or some other third thing, since they’re friends and teammates. It’s just that Ryuji doesn’t know how to word that properly with Morgana, either because it’s Ryuji being Ryuji moment or because it’s difficult being sincere with someone he tends to bicker with.
Quite a few characters in this game are neurodivergent coded, and Ryuji is one of them. Definitely ADHD at the very least, and one symptom of ADHD is saying insensitive things because you didn’t think your words through before you spoke.

The full okumura experience. Yes, the boss reworks for royal made this the toughest boss in the game for the point you fight them. Now here's the catch: the change has an unintended consequence. Merciless, the "hardest" difficulty is often debated to be easier than hard because of okumura specifically. Merciless generally cranks up the difficulty, but they add one double-edged sword to complicate matters, and okumura falls to the side of it that benefits the player.
At least, for the waves of bots you need to kill simultaneously. The single target enemies at the end don't have weaknesses to exploit, so they're just tougher, especially if you've never had a chance to figure out the actual mechanics behind how Big Band Challenge works. Still probably technically worthwhile for the net time saved on those early waves, though.
@@Shalakor like i said, "debatable". Even then, i meant it more as okumura being a microcosm of what merciless does to the game and less about okumura himself.
In merciless, by the time you reach okumura, you have access to every mechanic that can remove weaknesses from your characters, joker even more so than the rest, so the double edged sword's edge that can fall on the player has been dulled to oblivion. From there, taking out the waves quickly gives you more time for the real boss, and unlocking network fusions within the place itself means you likely have a persona overpowered enough to make it a joke, weaknesses or no. Also worth noting is that the game cant take technicals away from you outside of making enemies and bosses immune to certain statuses., and the game always leaves at least one you can exploit. It is not impossible to have guarenteed tech knockdowns by that point, and only becomes ever more likely when you know what you are doing or are in ng+ to skip 90% of the grind to unlock it (only needing to wait for the location and time blocks needed to get there instead of the skill checks that act as the primary gate.).
@@cullenlatham2366 Yeah. Merciless is in my opinion easier because of the double edge. I have been playing with a mod so the enemies have more HP and overall you never realise how much more damage you take overall because most fights can end in 1-2 turns because of you able to hit weakness, if you don't the fights actually get start getting hard. Not mentioning that in merciless difficulty you gain 20% more exp, so if you are like me by the point you get to okumura you may actually even have heavy elemental damage or at least (element) boost, which is a 25% damage increase.
The reason why Okumura ends up being difficult is because the last 2 rows are weak to an element and bless or curse, which by that point you don't have a party member with those skills. So in the first waves you have 3 party members that can hit weakness if you count joker, while in the last ones you only have two counting joker.
Now, how I think the boss fight is SUPPOSED to be done is by using items and baton pass? During the palace when stealing mini treasures/search objects you get elemental items and you can use the shady commodities to buy elemental magatamas, so what I think you are supposed to do in the fight is use those to crank up the baton pass with the party members who can't hit weakness and then pass the baton to the ones who are specialized in those elementels and joker.
However never in the game are you really incentiviced? Like, in P4 you are showed by basically make you require to use them in the tutorial fights to survive. In P5 you are never showed that these items exist in the first place???
@@masterblaster38 well, royal adds accessories with offensive skills, and they are consistent to obtain once you understand the electric chair and fusion alarms, so that is an alternative to consumables to get more elements to work with in knockdowns (if you dont mind leaving your own weaknesses open), but generally speaking, yes, that is the intended out. More specifically, stick to single targets for the weakness hits to build up baton passes, then hit them all with a powerful multi-target weak element (or a powerful phys skill. Almighty can fall short and i know that from experience with an almighty boost/amp [cant remember which] seth from my first playthrough.)
Items fill the same role with much weaker damage output, and they are quite easy to stockpile especially with mementos grind, but it isnt the only option. If anything, the bigger problem is that players eventually have to make a choice between what skills their party members will keep, and that can be the "wrong" choice of dropping single target while keeping coverage with multitarget; a "mistake" i made in my first playthrough without keeping the break skills to compliment them, leaving me constantly punished by reflect until confidant rank 10 with the characters in question, and something that made okumura that much harder to do blind. XD
As for never being taught about the items, well, that is more an issue with video game literacy and different habits. Let's not forget P5 and P5R are rated M for Mature (mostly earned through kamoshida, admittedly) by the ESRB, and with that rating comes some expected level of video game literacy and competency, so they dont really need to explain the concept of consumable items. The other factor is much harder to account for, and gets into the psychology of playing a game. Even in my own experience, i had to teach myself to be willing to part with items instead of hoarding them for that oh so common "but what if i need them for the final boss, superbosses, postgame, or in some rarer cases crafting/forging/upgrading (epic battle fantasy series)?" excuse. That latter factor has been explored before, even here on youtube. Just as examples, ive watched both razbuten and design doc both cover the topic.

Oh yeah. That's what I meant for items, use a 1 hit item for the weakness then baton pass to Joker/party member with weakness. Even if they have lower damage, they are more than enough.
You can use accesories, however I never actually used them until my NG+ and I can see most players that aren't people who max out everything ignoring that idea, but I can easily see how you can make a team able to hit weaknesses. But like I said the main problem is the last waves, specially because they have even higher health values than the ones you fight through the Palace for some reason. (Also fun fact: in the translation to spanish, some of the items say that they hit every enemy when they actually only hit one. Learned It after a while.)
Also, the consumable items problem was also one that I had, but in NG+ I actually realised how expendable items actually are simply because of Takemi being able to give you basically 200 heal to everyone and full hp revive items. In fact after learning about items and actually using them I made Morgana, Makoto and Haru forget their skills of healing status ailments and revival skills and Haru forget shield because It is pretty easy in Royal to get items that do the same things with anybody's turn.
Then again like I said, if you play on merciless difficulty you probably have a very high level and the fight should be easy.
There is also another stupid way to cheese the fight, and is that I am pretty sure that you are able to put the robots to sleep and other ailments (and in fact the last robot of all is able to be Frozen) so I am pretty sure that an Ann + Sleep boost from the shop can probably build a very high baton pass by using lullaby instead of having to use weakness.
Where the fight sucks is if your main team IS about physicall attacks like your main joker persona being that, because they resist It (But Yusuke with freeze boost can also work just as Ann's lullaby).

sooooo. for plot purposes the game assumes that you did every palace on the last possible day to do it. so its not as delayed as you think. its just a thing the plot has to assume in the background foro things to make sense. honestly its a weakness of letting you do the boss fight whenever.
Yeah, kinda feels like the Calling Card should be forced to happen at the last day possible in every arc, using the same cognition excuse as the one used for needing a Calling Card in the first place. At least, in Royal version where you're no longer locked out of doing a bunch of social stuff until you finish the Palace like you were in vanilla P5.

@@michaelzoller5303 Something funny is that in P5 and P5R they made so that if the deadline is in 7 days or lower, party members confidants won't be able to be done as they will all be worring about it. However if you have the treasure route already done, you can do the confidants (You just need to remember to actually send the calling card before the deadline actually expires to not get a game over)
If anyone says that it is annoying, in P4 and P4G you couldn't do ANYTHING party member confidant related until you completed the "palace" of that moment, which was sometimes annoying.
In P5 and P5R there is only like 3 things you are not able to do until you clean the palace which one of them is going to the cinema until you have steal the treasure of Kamosida's palace.

I just got to the "secret palace" and the way I just started grinning like an absolute madman.
Let me tell you about how much I love Kasumi, she's literally my favorite character, and I'm glad you've been like "oh my god kasumi's really cool I love her what the heck is going on" instead of this one streamer I've seen sometimes who absolutely loathes her and dies inside whenever she's on-screen. Won't mention his name.
Btw her awakening was one giant sailor moon reference. That being said, this entire section of the game is her perfect introduction to being a phantom thief.
Edit: I'll say it again. I have 800+ hours in this game, I've replayed it multiple times, but watching you play this is like experiencing the game for the first time and I've been loving every moment so far. Genuinely, you are becoming my favorite RUclipsr. Screw it, idk if you'll read this reply, but I'm definitely gonna start checking your streams out on twitch or whatever you play on. Keep it absolutely real.

Edit 3: I'll honest though, Morgana's exit felt extremely forced and written to be out of character. Like, the game needed a reason to have Morgana leave, get beaten up, meet haru and then haru joins, but they couldn't figure out a way to write that, so they just had Morgana take personal offence to ryuji's comments when he got annoyed at best in previous arcs. But that's just my take and whether or not that's an agreeable take is to be debated, obviously.
Edit 4: Yeah, the boss is my least favorite, but not because it's poorly-designed, but because it suddenly relies on a mechanic that maybe a majority of the playerbase doesn't use as often. It's an arbitrary wall that players find out while fucking around trying to find out. The game doesn't actively enforce the baton pass mechanic throughout the game, it's kinda just... there. and then boom, you're forced to use it while never being told that's what you're supposed to do. If you played the vanilla game though, you would've had a far less enjoyable time though. It is so much more punishing in P5 base (not royal).
Hard agree with the dialogue take in the boss fight as well. I genuinely wish the timer could've paused while text was up, but I get that it would've messed up the flow of the battle, but at the same time, it messes up the vibes of the boss because you don't have time to read it. Ugh, that part I hate.

Okumura was such a pain in the ass! It took me hours to manage, it made me so mad my fiancé started laughing at a certain point because he was making me growl out of anger

Just beat persona 5 Strikers, bit hard to get into but once it got going it was an absolute blast, would definitely recomend once you're done with royal! I'll propably get tactica relatively soon, and Phantom X is also making progress in its development, so it's looking to be a year full of persona for me😊

Honestly in any other scenario i would have kinda condemned using someone elses lvl 90+ lilim on a boss a little bit, but i completely understand just wanting the okumura fight to be over, that was totally valid! Also after that loss by a hair to harubots self destruction, literally the last attack in the whole fight, I would go through that next attempt using gigantomachia at every step of the way, would not judge you one bit for that, i felt that loss in my bones!
It wasn't someone else's. He fused it using one of his and one of someone else's that was level 90. As someone who played these games too much, having brave blade and gigantomachia is nothing compared to summoning Izanagi no Okami Picaro and Myriad Truths your way to victory.
I've never really been a fan of the whole Morgana and Ryuji conflict. I mean, Morgana has been rude to Ryuji for most of the game so far. Both in normal game and as a Navigator. When Joker misses an enemy, Morgana says, "You missed? Come on, Joker" as if encouraging him to do better or try again. When Skull missed an enemy, Morgana goes, "Oh, Skull. You're pathetic" and several other passive aggressive taunts either about Ryuji or his intelligence. But the ONE time Ryuji offers a little pushback, suddenly Morgana's pride is wounded. Now I won't say Morgana feeling useless(don't look, Makoto) wasn't foreshadowed or shown before. But like I said, Morgana has been mean to Ryuji all game. So it's no surprise that Ryuji didn't take kindly to the group just comforting Morgana. But oh well. This arc is a lot of people's least favorites for a reason

Ryuji's the kind of bro who can take the back and forth of roasting friends, like how he and Ann interact.
They both are responsible for all of it blowing up in their face and Morgana is acting like a stubborn child. Me thinks that if they paced this part a bit better and didn't punish the player mechanically so much, people might've not liked it but it wouldn't be so universally panned.
It's so frustrating because Morgana has been so needlessly mean to Ryuji literally from the minute that they met, always answering everything Ryuji said or did with some kind of insult. It feels like such a disproportionate response when Morgana blows up at Ryuji for offering up the mildest of insults, considering the way he's been treating Ryuji for this game's entire run. And even when they're making amends, no one at any point calls Morgana out on his behavior. On the one hand, I *want* to feel bad for Morgana because, as someone who had dealt with general self-worth issues, I know very well how much of a nightmare that kind of headspace is to be in; but on the other hand, the fact that he's been a huge jerk for this entire game makes it very hard to feel bad for him. And the worst part of it all is that he seriously undercuts Haru's entire introduction to the story; she feels almost like a side character in what should be her focal arc because so much of it is taken up by his petty drama.
I will say, I disagree with the "Morgana's been mean to Ryuji the whole game" sentiment. They've both been taking playful jabs at eachother throughout the whole game. Ryuji probably gets the end of it more, but I really don't think it's as one sided as people say. They're both the most "picked on" characters in the game.
Infact, both in this arc and throughout the whole game, I think it's the REST of the theives that come across as overly mean to Ryuji. Because at least with him and Mona, they're clearly just going for the "2 idiots that butt heads" trope, while Ryuji's connections with everyone else is less defined.

Was waiting for this one for quite a while so ended up checking the vods and six hours for one boss is actually crazy. Also yeah a lot of people care about your playthrough which I saw you mention at the end of a vod.
Found ur channel through the yt vids and I loved it sm! I went back and got caught up with all the vods and am excited to see the rest of your journey through this game!
I would highly recommend playing P5 Strikers and maybe Tactica as well, if the viewers wanna see it. I’d love to. But you can always come back to them after playing the other mainline games like P3 and P4. If you play them, either way this has prolly been one of the most fun and unique playthroughs of this game I’ve seen so keep it up!
Also side note I recommended checking out the Dancewear and Christmas outfits for Morgana on stream cuz they’re hilarious 🤣

I've been catching up on these videos, mainly because Persona 5 is one of my top 3 favorite games, and I always love watching people play it for the first time. Definitely want to see you going through the confidant stories in addition to this story series. The confidant stuff is a major part of the game, and while I'm super excited that you've been having fun with the game it's been a bummer to not see your reactions to the additional character stories between the major plot points.
Your media literacy is impressive and hearing your thoughts at the end of every video is interesting as someone who's played this story nearly a dozen times since it first came out. A fresh take is sometimes what a person like me needs to hear. Can't wait to see more videos in the future!

I love how this boss teaches you a lot of things about the combat. Some times all out attacks are good but not always because as long as you down an enemy, you still get a "one more". Also if you hate the timed battle, be ready for Persona 3 Reload. You are gonna have "fun".

1 Hour ago! okumuras fight is a pain in the ass, they made it worse by taking the all out attacks and making the enemies reset if you dont kill them all in one go, and with a timer!

A game that has urged you up until now to "take your time" strips that luxury away and spits in your face with this boss fight.
But Persona games have always found unique ways to teach you how to appreciate and manage your time with what you have, this is just another way of doing it.
Shadow Okumura's boss fight made me almost throw my console. That is until I realized I could use items to attack affinity weaknesses.
I attacked each robot one at a time. I let the first teammate attack one robot's weakness with an item (if the current teammate doesn't have the affinity) and then baton-passed to the next teammate. The next teammate would do the same (attack one robot's weakness) and then baton pass. My last baton pass was to Joker (who would then have max damage) and made him use a skill that attacks all foes at the same time!
I rarely comment on channels, but I just had to say that it's always a fun time watching your streams! Looking forward to your future streams JC! : )

Joker should ALWAYS have Persona to cover any element. That's just safe and smart gameplay.
And you also seemed underleveled for that fight. I was caught off guard by the changes in Royal Okumura fight versus the original version, and I still cleared it first try with 7 minutes to spare. At least you had best Persona (Lilim) at the time.

I was completely baffled with the miracle punch strategy for the boss fight; not in a hater way by any means, rather how lucky you have to be for it to work. And it did!
I know all the arcs are great in their own regards but I really think this is one of the best rising action arcs in how it builds the story. Looking forward to your streams of arc 6!!!

That's a good Ted Talk. I was going to type a defense of Morgana here but yours is way better! Also, let's not forget: despite his protests, he is in fact a CAT... well, roughly, more or less. With all the good and bad traits that fact entails. Are we going to criticize him for not acting more like a loyal, supportive dog?

I appreciate a flawed character that shows growth over the course of the story (I'm a Mishima defender as well lol), even though they didn't do as great a job with the writing here imo, hahaha!
WHOLLY agree with this explanation of morgana's character, the only thing i'd personally add on is that in my opinion, i don't think this mini-arc itself was out of place or too forced or anything.
the fact that this fallout happened AT ALL makes sense. was the cause for it rather simple and a bit childish even? yeah, it was, and under normal circumstances, it was something you could've easily talked out and moved on from. but people tend to forget that as cool and badass as the thieves can be, at the end of the day, this group you're playing as/with is a bunch of 16-17 year olds and a cat with amnesia, each of them more traumatized than the next, that have taken on the very ambitious but also somewhat naive goal to reform SOCIETY. i don't expect the majority of them to handle conflict all that well; hell, the way some of them grew so nervous over not immediately being able to decide on their next target SHOWED that.
i think that despite morgana's outburst having seemingly come "out of nowhere" (which i don't even see that way- morgana had been going through his own existential crisis and growing insecurities for a WHILE by then, this, while not directly related, was simply the straw that broke the camel's back), the things he said were TRUE. the thieves were being very hesitant, albeit for understandable reasons, but they clearly weren't going to talk things out properly in that state. his dig at ryuji in particular made sense too, because out of the whole group, he was the one whose attitude had been changing the most. he'd let the fame get to his head too much, had been very vocal about just wanting people to know of his deeds and praise him. besides that, him and morgana have been at each other's throats throughout the whole game, although it never went beyond petty insults thrown at each other in the heat of the moment. in fact, i wager that's exactly why ryuji acted so dismissive about morgana leaving in the first place. to him, this might've just been another childish spat between them, while to morgana it was much more. ryuji didn't know about/understand all of mona's internal struggles, to him this issue was a lot simpler. in fact, by the time they found haru being assaulted by her fiancé, i'm pretty sure ryuji was already long over it. he didn't even hesitate lashing out at the guy once he saw morgana (his "the hell are you doing to our friend" was imo NOT directed at haru but mona, seeing as they'd barely known her by then, and he only yelled it right after seeing mona on the ground), and was back to treating him the same as always, just like everyone else.
now, the thing that DID bother me throughout this spectacle wasn't the fight as a whole, or these 4 ingame days we spent on it. it was that we were stuck in joker's pov the WHOLE time. i would've loved if instead of just playing as him, they'd let us actually play as mona and/or haru a couple times. SHOW us how mona went into the palace by himself and got his ass kicked, how haru found him, them getting to know each other, her incomplete awakening, etc. keep what we already had and just add these scenes to help us understand both of them better.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that it feels out of place, just that it could've been written in BETTER. I think this mini-arc definitely has its place in the story, but for me, personally, it left a little to be desired in how it was handled from a writing standpoint.
I hard agree with the fact that many people tend to forget/ignore just HOW YOUNG our protagonists are. They are teens trying to reform society. It can be easy to overlook, especially with how Makoto and Haru often act mature beyond what people might expect from characters their age, but then we have to remind ourselves that they are how they are, because they were forced to grow up VERY quickly due to their circumstances. I fully expect them to be childish and downright unreasonable at times.
Ryuji and Mona specifically are on two sides of a spectrum when it comes to not thinking things through enough and overthinking and I think that's where a lot of the tension comes from, because neither is particularly patient with the other when disagreeing. But that in no way means they aren't friends or don't care about each other, Morgana is simply the much more insecure one about it, that's why Ryuji was so much quicker to let the conflict go, but someone like Morgana will continue struggle with doubts if the conflict isn't properly resolved.
All that just to once again say, that I agree with you on that part, haha!
@LalaMysteria you're right, it DEFINITELY could've been better, i just don't consider it to be nearly as bad as many ppl make it out to be. honestly, i feel like the majority of my personal gripes with the story's writing could've been handled way better if they didn't keep us confined to just joker's pov so much when playing...

Okumura's boss fight is wildly established to be the worst boss fight in the game, for good reason I'm glad you survived it😂 The boss narratively makes sense, but they definitely should have worked it better. Pretty much the only way you have a good time is if you know how the fight goes already, and stock up on weakness gems. If you don't it is definitely an experience. 😅 The game only gets crazier from here, can't wait to see your reactions❤
