- This is a review of most of Lamy's ballpoint pens. I have owned almost all of Lamy's ballpoints over the years (more than are featured in this video) so I wanted to do a full line review of Lamy's ballpoints.
The the full articles: unsharpen.com/...
The video covers:
Lamy 2000 ballpoint - unsharpen.com/...
Lamy Unic
Lamy Pico
Lamy Noto
Lamy Econ
Lamy CP1 Trio
Lamy Scribble
Lamy Aion
I have owned and broke, given away, or sold off the Safari ballpoint, Persona ballpoint, Logo, Dialog 1, and a few others. As I noted in the video, I've never had a Lamy Pur.

rOtring full line review would be awesome
Thanks for a really good video. I use a lot of these pens at work, and find that some of them are really comfortable and well designed. My favourites are the Pico, the Makrolon 2000 and 2000 multi pen, the Scribble and the Noto. The newer M16 refills must have been reformulated as they write much better than those if 5 years back. The M22 is also a good refill. I think the 2000 multi pen is the best you can buy. Keep up the great videos!
Cool...I got the black wood Lamy 2000 ballpoint at a steal price and quite enjoy using it. The M16 refill is “Broad” and the fairly heavy pen with the broad point makes me go this pen quite a bit, although I am mainly a fountain pen user.
Nice pen!
glad you gave the lamy 2000 the thumbs up as i just got one used which is still on it's way.
Great video, as always. i agree with Ez Beaver that a rotring full line review would be great. and also for lamy rollerball full line. thanks!
Cool video. I have no experience with Lamy. Almost bought a Pico a few years back, but the special refill was a deal breaker. I'd buy it if the Pico had a rollerball. I'd also like to see a rOtring comparison. Keep 'em coming.
The Lamy Logo is the only Ball Point I have and gave it to my mom recently. It works really well.
I recommend to test the Logo for a good reasonable price. It's an underrated pen for many people but I like it better than the Swift.
@Giordy It's available as a ballpoint pen, too. I live near a shop that sell Lamy.
Logo looks really good but very long front cone makes me to hold it really awkwardly. I use it along my almost 20 years old Rotring Freeway ballpoint but man, I still reach for Rotring more.
Thank you for the good review! Saved me money on Lamy 2000 wood editions. I think the standard edition is good for my needs.
Full agree
Try an all OHTO video.
I like the Lamy tipo because of the safety clip actuation. I'm surprised you didn't mention it. The mechanism allows using more standard refills, such as a Pilot Frixion refill. (I think that's a Pilot G2 format) If I remember correctly it originally came with a Lamy M66 refill.
Anyway...
I have seen this kind of safety clip actuation on a semi-cheap generic pen but I wonder if you know of any other nice pens with this this kind of actuation? (I hate ruining my shirt pockets)
The honesty is helpful but also amusing that most of these pens your review pattern is "Here are the reasons this pen is hateable but I do have a soft spot for it" :p I get it though, My only Lamy ballpoint is a Safari with a medium refill and I enjoy the design but really hate the writing experience. I kind of want a pico and a noto just to play with the clickers.
Lamy has a sort of quirkiness to their designs that I have a lot/hate relationship with!
I liked that video. but then again i like all your videos.
You forgot about the LAMY Studio. It's actually my favourite because it's shape is close to the LAMY 2000 but it's a full metal construction. I don't know if you have those in the US but I love them. And I love the Studio fountain pen which has been my daily writer for over two years now and still is amazing. But only in the brushed stainless steel finish, the coloured ones have very shiny polished grip peaces that get too slippery with longer writing sessions.
not a fan of the taper on the lani's they look nice on a desk though, kinda like a sports bike without tank slappers theres nothing to hold onto when you're cornering, you can clear a gummed out roller by hitting it with a lighter for a half second to thin out the viscocity of the ink but sometimes they can't be saved you end up cooking the plastic ink well and could ruin pants or carpet with ink use caution.
Why do you want to replace the M16 in the first place, I find it at least as good as the 0.7 JetStream ballpoint refill?
I use Logos and Studios and they write smoothly (M and B M16s) so I don't have any need to replace the M16s.
Hi there. The Unic Fountain pen is currently for sale on eBay. The Florida seller does not post to the UK, but you should snap this up to complete your set. Best wishes from Chris in Manchester England
$250! Pricey.
Why do you think the lamy 2000 multi isn’t good? Any suggestions for good multis
Thanks for the good overview. In many cases there is the M16 in use. The M16 is available in F, M and B, did you ever compared the different wides?
Yes there is a video or two on that. Ultimately the difference isn’t huge and I tend to prefer then M
Love this one! Great video :)
Thank you. This was a labor of love
my new Lamy 2000 ballpoint pen has an annoying issue: when I am writing, the nib would be a little bit shaking because there is a space between the nib and the head of the pen. Is this normal?
How I wish that Rotring 800 had the same mechanism as that of the Lamy Unic.. ☹️ would give anything to have a Lamy Unic in my collection.
Wonderful overview. Never had much experience with Lamy ballpoint pens, only the Parker ballpoint pens and generic pens that use the Parker G2 refill. Now I can see why they didn't catch on, what with the different types of refill.
Could you get into Parker Pens plz, endless lineup to review and get into
I'm saving to purchase the Lamy Accent rubber grip retractable ballpoint.
Whats your opinion about Lamy cp1 ballpoint pen?
I just got a Lamy Logo in stainless steel & plastic green tip
Just grabbed an Al Star and realized it might not be big enough for my fat finger, do you think the 2000 would be more suitable?
No I don’t this the 2000 is much better due to the tapered front. It’s larger but not a wide pen
@@unsharpen thanks for the reply, is there any ballpoint you would recommend for fat fingers?
Max ..all used m16 refill...then all write same so how we compare ?? Only design of pen ......
Anyone noticed that the vintage 2000 has a curved clip unlike the newer models?
Somehow you have a lot of ballpoints from LAMY that I don't have and you don't have a single one I have :-) btw 'Made in West Germany' or W. Germany was used until in 1990 western and eastern Germany were reunited. Since then it's again just 'Made in Germany' I love how a lot of amazing stationery with a long history and heritage comes out of this country like LAMY, Rotring, Montblanc, Pelikan or Faber-Castell.
Yea I have a good and possibly representative (but far from complete) selection. That’s for mentioning the studio!
Great overview, thank you
Hi, nice review. Do you know if can use rollerball refills in lamy econ ballpoint?
Don’t have my Econ with me but likely not. Most Lamy ballpoints art stuck with the lamy bp refill
@@unsharpen Thank you!
Hey man. Can you share the name of the pen on the thumbnail?
Lamy Dialog 1
Which twist multi pens do you recommend in particular?
Bruh I just ordered the Jetstream prime 3&1 today
Pretty good deal on amazon around 36 w shipping and handling
Sad that it arrives it about a month rip
Did I imagine it, or did you write "CP1 trio" with a Lamy Safari ballpoint? @2:22 you put the cap back on what looks a lot like one, but later in the video (@18:34) you list it as one of the pens you don't have.
Don’t think so. I broke my safari bp a while back when trying to hack a new refill in it
Pen at 2:22 is a stainless cp1 trio
@@unsharpen So weird, because in my browser @2:22 the section and cap looks just like a Safari. Image here: postimg.cc/2bVXRCjh
Looks like a safari rollerball. The bp is a clicker
@@unsharpen OIC I guess I haven't seen a Safari BP so I just assumed the only difference was the refill. So now I'm thinking the reason you didn't include the Lamy tipo is because that is a roller ball, not a ball point.
Can I buy your Lamy Unic????? Best wishes from Chris in Manchester England
Not for sale. They have gotten rather hard to find!
Monteverde make a M16 refill, which writes much better than LAMY's
What’s the pen in the thumbnail?
Lamy dialog
@@unsharpen ok thanks
Disappointing… came here for the pen in the image on the video front page… doesn’t even feature!
Other videos I’ve done have deeper reviews of the dialog 1
Name of the pen in thumbnail? Please
Lamy dialog 1
Absolutely hate lamy ballpoint refills. Pens are nice refills suck
いや、普通にシコイわ。これ
あとリフィル規格をしっかりD1言ってくれるの好感する
I just find their pens to be the most lazily designed and unattractive. Good vid though
Yep, they look very utilitarian and of a similar vain to Parker ballpoint pens, but entirely to expensive without design justifications.
Is there any cheap alternative for M22 refill to be used in lamy Pico?
