This sounds good advice, especially if you are younger. I think it is shameful that kids aren't introduced to basic maintenance and repairs for homes and cars. I am a late bloomer with this type of stuff, thanks mainly to youtube! I have progressed recently to handyman type jobs through 'word of mouth' referrals. Just a 'side hussle' at the moment, but steady growth. I would add a few tips: be polite, reliable, honest and fair, this will set you apart from most people.
Thank you! I want to add. At least for me with no experience is overcoming the mental block and negative self talk…..I can’t do this, I have never been taught this from my father or anyone. It’s a massive deterrent. Get organized first. A tool belt, basic tools, then begin slowly and remember it’s ok to suck initially! Anything worth while you will be bad at initially. Pray, let Jesus build you up. It’s a great opportunity to overcome. God Bless!
@Jack Tapley honestly the way I got into cabinetry was random I took a summer course at college last summer and it was a construction course and they made a resume for me and sent it out to companies and after the course was over weeks later a cabinetry company contacted me offering me a job and I took a chance because I wanted to do construction instead but I chose wisely because I been enjoying cabinetry even thoe it was scary at first. Just put in work join a course that will help or just be honest and contact cabinetry companies and tell them you may not know much but your willing to learn and your interested.
Great video, I growing up in a Hispanic household, I grew up in very sex role household, mom pulling me to the kitchen, and dad taking the boys to work w him. I now own a house and don’t know and can’t do anything, I have been watching DIY videos to make a few repairs in my house. I have learned a lot, slowly increasing my tool kits. I am an accountant, therefore I like saving my bucks as well. What would be your suggestion and or recommendation for me as a unskilled female to land a apprentice handyman job??.
@@SincerelyWavey Ok. lol could that be any more sexist?? I’m with her- needing to do our own handyman work, with no other options but to take it by the reigns ourselves⛅️ Times have changed Will.

You can take free home improvement classes at hardware stores (Home depot used to do those pre COVID) or maybe join some free housing volunteer group like Habitat for Humanity? I’m just throwing guess I have no idea either
Thanks for making this video. I am a new home owner with zero experience, knowledge, or aptitude with tools. Growing up I was taught learning tools were for uneducated people. Silly attitude but that's life. To put n context of how low my knowledge is, I only learned this year what a Philip's screwdriver is. I want to get more skilled to fix stuff around home. Thoughts? I am in my 50s so not looking for a career or anything.
Great video! I love working in home construction. Just something about working with your hands! I’m also looking to eventually have my own handyman business as an independent contractor.
You don't. Most are not going to waste time teaching you if you don't know 💩 think about it they are in the business of making money not teaching. That is why Vo tech exists!!!
A title of handyman with zero experience shouldn't be a handyman.... Im mechanically inclined due to having to fix shit around my own house.. I have all the tools and am pretty inclined with basic framing, plumbing and electrical .. Ive cleared major sewer lines, can swap a ceiling light for a fan. Can paint. Change a toilet, clean AC drain lines.. i swapped out my water heater for a new one with basic knowledge.... I think i doubt myself sometimes and i work at Lowes but I always offer legit solutions for customers and some return items because they "cant do it" but for $100 I can pop in and do it for em . I'm not getting on any roofs or anything but I'm very well rounded both physically and mentally if ya catch my drift. IMO stairs aren't hard to figure out stringers when you go from top finished floor to bottom finished floor and you know your rise and run have to be up to code which is something like less than 18" combined.. usually 10" of run and be under 8" for the rise.. its simple math...
Lol Tell that to my dad and uncle who dropped out of highschool 🤣 ... I'm starting to think twice about going to college when I see my dad's bank account

Thank you for being straight forward my friend. This video was so helpful the second it started. Have a good one!
If you don't have much experience. Start working on your own house that can help

I believe the idea was for you to be married by now. Your mother was trying to teach you how to be a feminine woman.

Great video man!
dope dope video!
Thomas edison said he didnt know but he surrounded himslef with people who did
There are handyman.... and carpenters totally different
Your wife was funny 😄 “it’s NOT burnt”
I like the video
Try using a headphone mic
All I can say folks there is a reason you have to go to school for 4 years to become a carpenter
should have said nothing instead ..
Lol Tell that to my dad and uncle who dropped out of highschool 🤣 ... I'm starting to think twice about going to college when I see my dad's bank account
Not sure where you live at but you absolutely don't have to go to school to be a carpenter here in the United states
Let's be real you can't be a handyman if you don't know 💩💩💩
