The grill is not a rip off because am general made the wills jeep, and also made the Hmmwv, that's how the hummer got its grill

    • @Legoguy1979
      @Legoguy1979 6 лет назад +1

Yep, when amc spun off am general. Owned by renault which is owned by the French, and the US government doesn't allow foreign countries to make products. Then the hummer was made, and like you said because they both came from AMC both jeep and AM general can use the 7 slot grille but AM general does own the right to the 10 slot ford jeep grille.

AM General wasn't around until 1969 (former AMC). They did not build the Willys Jeep. That would be Willys Overland Motors. They had a seven slot grill as far back as 1946 and a 9 slot on the MB in WW2. AMC bought Willys Jeep in 1969 then changed to AM General and from there their paths converged. AM General designed the Hmmwv in '79. Chrysler bought Jeep in '87 and owns them today.
Chrysler lost the suit because it was ruled they couldn't prove that by using a similar 7 slotted grill infringed or diluted their brand and they had waited too long to file an injunction or that it confused customers between Jeep and Hummer. The H1 had already been using the grill since early 90's and before that the military humvee. It's all about what you can prove and evidently they didn't bring enough evidence to court to convince anyone so they lost.
As far as who lays claim to the grill design...Difficult to say if you go by who used it first that would be Willys Overland (Jeep), but that was sold off to AM General years later, while they had Jeep they designed and built the military humvee sold to US GOV. Chrysler could argue it wasn't sold for consumer use. The H1 however was but why did Chrysler wait so long until the H2 was released if it bothered them?
Historically, the seven slot grill belongs to Jeep, but you could also argue it's not used in the same fashion. It's much slimmer. Also because AM General bought Jeep, they also bought the designs too which were loosely used on the humvee. So in effect they also own the rights. I like the Hummer grills better. Slim and wide.

@X X I had a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, yeah it rusted bad on the body, clear thru the floor and the roof in the corners. Had about 190k when we sold it in 2010. I just bought a 2003 H2 this year so it's about the same age as the Jeep was when we sold it but it's miles better by comparison, some of that is because it's a newer vehicle, they're just made better than older ones but a lot of it is because of Chrysler.
The engine was really good in the Chreokee though, never had a problem with it and transmission. Ford's got issues with early 2000's rusting too, but I've yet to see an H2 with rust. Had my H2 now for over a month, love it. a few things on it are head scratchers like the dual climate control, why would you have it left/right and not front/rear? I wish it were about 3 inches wider though and came stock with 37's. It doesn't have quite as much leg room in middle seats as our Expedition or in the back. Expedition is a little longer.

I have a 100% Stock 2003 H2 that slightly over 80k and I honestly love this vehicle more than any other vehicle I have Ever owned. Its comfortable, Handles nice on the roads, Plenty of room. I am 54 years old and had a few cars in my day. In a different category I owned a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR 4 and for the time it absolutely was the baddest car on the road PERIOD. Back then hitting a 159 mph topped out and it felt like you were going 60 mph but If you have never owned a Hummer H2 you really should before you slam it.

My husband and I LOVE our H2. Idk how people can hate them so much, unless gas mileage is the thing that makes you love a vehicle lol. We got it in a trade for a car we were selling- we were going to buy a tahoe or Yukon but honestly I wasn’t that impressed with new or used of those vehicles. The Hummer is way more roomy for our large family and hella comfortable. It can tow like a beast and is badass in the snow. Honestly, If I could trust it I would. Sadly when I decided on a V8 suv - i chose a Cayenne which has been fantastic on feel and overall reliability. I do look fondly at Discovery 3 & 4 (aka LR 3 and LR4) - but i just can't bring myself to :(

You are lucky... im a mechanic and i have one very nice customer with an H2 which i have to repair way to often. Some of the repairs the vehicle needed recently... Brake master cylinder leaked power steering fluid so badly the vehicle lost power steering and brake assist (yes this vehicle does not have a normal vacuum brake booster instead it uses the power steering pump pressure to assist), radiator end caps let go and caused a coolant leak (pita to replace with the stupid hood in the way) steering gear box seal failed and leaked, multiple bulb connectors either corroded or melted, multiple steering linkage joints developed play, and some other minor stuff. The repair bill total made me feel so bad for the customer but he was still happy because other shops asked for $500-$800 more to repair the vehicle.

    • @shawnjames7261

I went to school next to the plant where body panels were stamped for many GM's including the preliminary stamping for the H2 before it was announced to the public . I remember we got to do a tour of the plant since I was in robotics and GM had donated $50k that year to our team. We had to sign contracts agreeing to not disclose any information pertaining to what we would see. Anyways, roughly half way through the tour there was a fully assembled H2 body from fresh stamping getting ready to be sent off for painting. No wheel, tires, interior, engine had been installed yet. We asked what that was going to be and they said an announcement would be made soon. I believe this was either late 1999 or early 2000., but it was just a few months before it was made public.

Turned down 3 ppl trying to buy it off me at the gas pump for 66k now I think I should have takin it and built up my own but it would be bout the same to put it back where it is now so screw the headache plus you just gotta let those ppl know that some shit just ain’t for SALE you gotta earn IT

The brand Hummer in general should get respect despite the hate. I mean the Hummer fought our wars and now people can own one in the road despite its drawbacks with gas and size. H2 was trying to fit more into places where the H1 couldn't go because of the width of the H1. In all honesty, I would have both. I have the 08 H2. H3 is more for the people who don't like the size of the H1 and H2 combined and has a optional manual transmission.

If you were a real car guy and mod vehicles, you can engine swap for a Duramax diesel on the H2. It can happen. Besides, the H2 isn't recognized by Hollywood anymore since they started going to GWagens. Also, the wrangler is not in the same class as the H2, more into the H3 which is really not a true Hummer.

H1’s suck they are terrible over 45 mph and uncomfortable. I’m with you I wanted one then I drove in one talk to any ex military they suck to get in and out of all the time they are not comfortable and you have to work on them and enjoy working on them all the time they rattle loose literally the bolts and nuts need to be checked monthly which isn’t a problem cuz you’re working on them every 3 days doing routine maintenance anyway. Not that I don’t have to work on my H2 SUT but I have to do fun stuff not become an active diesel mechanic and prime my diesel or bleed my brake lines every 25 days. Pipedream cool back problems YES and money problems look up the cool inflation hubs online 4,500$ for just one is about the not coolest thing ever other than the powerstearing pump failing every 60 days and sitting in a non adjustable metal seat that makes you walk away from you car like your tailbone has been sitting ona jack hammer all day or you just been pushin cattle ina aged western saddle! All great points in the video. Probably no one will read this but ok. I own a Jeep Rubicon 04 and a H2 hummer 06. I have owned many jeeps from the CJ, TJ and YJ and here is my take. If I am going off roading I want my Jeeps, though the Hummer is capable it is not nearly as capable as my Rubicon. For winter road conditions in NE Pa the Hummer is in a completely different class than my Jeeps. I have hit many unplowed road situations and my Jeeps are squirrely though capable, the Hummer however, does not even seem to recognize there is snow on the ground. Have never even had to put it in 4 wheel drive.I have buried even my lifted Jeeps in the snow to include the Rubicon and had to pull it out with the Hummer.Just me experience with the two different vehicles.

    • @devinyeo7712
      @devinyeo7712 Год назад

It’s all in the weight. I concur, I’ve owned CJ’s,YJ’s, TJ’s, JK’s, and XJ’s. Jeeps are extremely capable off-road, there’s no debate. The short wheel base, thin body, high air intake and light weight make it great out in the woods but in the snow??? They are squirrely for sure. My XJ (Cherokee sport) was the best out of all due to its slightly heavier weight. I would imagine these H2’s cruise through the snow like nothing.

Jeep is too small for me to tow, need a hellcat in it. I got my H2 reprogrammed with 3 tunes.....my economy tune i get 16 miles per gallon. Better than Tundras. You, like so many don't have a friggin clue what you are talking about when yapping about the H2.
First, you said in the video, like when you drowned the H2. YET, you showed you drowning an HumVee H1 not an H2 at all.
    Do you know the difference?
I have owned a 2007 H2 SUV for 11 years. I have driven it from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, through 27 states EIGHT TIMES, in virtually every horrible on-road and off-road scenario one can imagine outside of climbing sandstone in Moab.
I did get it stuck once in my son's yard in Crisfield, Md, where he had two feet of snow on top of pure marsh mud, but since then, I have not been stuck in some pretty obscene conditions.
Is the H2 an H1 HumVee? NOPE! IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE.
Also, I read another WRONG assumption below that the H2 is just an Avalanche with an ugly body. You know, when you don't know crap, you should not type crap.
FACT IS, the H2 is actually three different frames melded into one. NEITHER of the frames are from an Avalanche, the facts are... The H2 was built under contract by AM General. The H2's frame assembly is made up of 3 sections. The front uses a modified GM 2500-Series HD frame, the midsection is custom built for the H2, and the rear section uses a modified GM 1500-Series frame which is upgraded for the 8,600 pounds gross vehicle weight. (Truck weight, 6500 lbs.)
The H2 was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2003. Rod Hall racing won their class several times in Hummer H2s in the Baja 1000. DEMZ DA FAX JAX.
Oh yeah, and that horrible mileage nonsense. Every horrible mileage evaluation I have seen is from an H2 that has not been taken care of and likely running on 3 cylinders.
My 2007 H2 SUV on my annual run from my home in Las Vegas to my son's home in Crisfield, Maryland gives the following gas mileage. If I take the southern route, I-10 which is a little more smooth and not as many mountains, I get 19.2 mpg AVERAGE. As computed and on two runs, I did the math via analog calc. When I take the northern route, I-40 through the mountains, I get 15.9 to 16.5 mpg AVERAGE. This is a 6500 pound truck and I have been told some V8 Jeeps and Ford 350 HD get worse mileage than that, so what is all of the bitching about regarding mileage. I will tell you... THOSE IGNORANT OF THE FACTS, like the guy who said he drowned an H2 at the beginning of the video, when it was really a HumVEE H1 and the guy who said the H2 is just an Avalanche with an ugly body, that's who says such stupid crap.
Am I an H2 or Hummer FANBOY? NO!, My H2 was given to me as a gift, one of 54 cars I have owned. I happened to like the body style and though I made it known from the day it was introduced that I liked it, I never made any effort to buy one, but... fortunately, my wife did a lot of traveling and one Sunday she said, "What would it cost me to get a really good foot massage, before I fly to Phoenix for four days?" I said, "A Hummer!" The next morning, when I was driving her to McCarran Airport so she could fly to Phoenix, she said, "If you're not doing anything today, why don't you go over to Desert BMW and by that black Hummer you were looking at? My treat!" So... I did!
Of the 54 cars I have owned, my Corvette and my Hummer H2 have been the best, economically and performance wise. The Corvette in three years cost me $130 for a brake caliper, the Hummer H2 cost me in three years a left front window regulator $119. Since then, I have had to replace the right rear window regulator and I can tell you, there simply is not an easier vehicle to change out window regs on than a Hummer. Takes 15 minutes and two sockets.
Worst car, my Jaguar XJ 6 Vanden Plas, $1,600 brake job every six months and over heats in the desert.
My Hummer H2 has been one of the most economical vehicles and most reliable vehicles I have owned. The greatest expense I incur with mine is WASHING IT, because it is black, I live in the Mojave Desert and all of the water in Vegas has a very high calcium content, which leaves spots on black vehicles. I spent $50 to $75 every two weeks on washing the Hummer. GAS? Not a problem for me, it performs as well or better than most trucks half it's weight. Performance. does very well. It has never left me anywhere. Expense? Two $119 and $220 window regulators in 11 years my total out of pocket for repairs.
My H2 is perhaps my favorite of the 54 cars I have owned. Cost Effectively, only my Corvette beat the H2, Jaguar XJ6, T-Bird, Caddy, Camaro, Ford F150, Ford Vans, Chevy Van, GTO, Merkur, 77 Trans Am, and three dozen more all hard their share of issues.
MY Hummer? I've learned to like it very much. Not a Hummer fan, I just loathe bullshit reporting, spitting and spewing when it is not necessary, except to garner attention.

Hummer H2 is like Trump. People hate it because "they said mean things about it". My friends said the SAME thing about my H2...until they got a ride in it. Smooth, quiet and very capable. I love my Hummer H2...chicks love it...dudes love it (but of course they are driving what everyone else is driving and act like they don't) The problem with people is they want to compare this to the original H1...when in reality...the H2 can do ALOT more of what the H1 can do. Kinda like a pros/cons thing...Oh yeah...if you are worried about MPG...then shouldn't be driving anything with a V8. All my trucks got 10-13 mpg. If I wanted to save on MPG, id get a RAV 4 AWD and hope no one would rely on me for space, pulling them out or going over 100 (which the H2 does) Oh I might add...if you want a GOOD off-road vehicle...go Land Cruiser 80 series and above...but of course something will be an issue opposite of the H2. For the record, I have a Wrangler TJ lifted with 35s and its loud, windy, non-economical and bad on gas...so...yeah. If you went Wrangler-you would suffer the same but be just like everyone else at the mall...

TIGER x GAMING Two guys from my fire station use them because they destroy anything in the snow at high speeds. They respond the fastest (volunteer station) and it literally could save lives.

Justin Madsen get a h3t alpha! The 5 cyl is ok but the extra cost of v8 is worth it

The notion that the H2 is an embarrassing vehicle is quite frankly delusional, and nothing more than a very odd opinion.

H2 is not difficult to park. I think you need a Pink Miata you sissy.

o2man98 he isn’t wrong, ive got an H2 and it’s much easier to park than the 2007 f250 I had before it, and not much more difficult than my 2006 BMW X3

Shane Terry I have an H2 also. Bought new 2007. Parking is a snap. Visibility is good as well if you know how to use mirrors. Cargo and passenger room is great. Did a family trip from WI to VA last summer with 5 people and all gear fit inside.

o2man98 that was supposed to go to “I am Sekou”. Does yours have the power folding mirrors like the one in the video? How do you make them fold? I know how to make the glass move but didn’t know you could push a button to fold the whole thing in. I’ve got a 2004, and as far as I know it’s for all the options like full leather, heated seats, sunroof, air suspension (that the dealership I bought it from converted to coil springs because they were leaking). Though it doesn’t have the spare tire carrier and brush guard but if I remember correctly those were dealership add on accessories, not factory installed.

o2man98 I mostly use it to tow my horse trailer and go off-roading, but I wanna get a snorkel, upgrade the front suspension components, and seal it up everywhere so water doesn’t damage things (like fuse boxes under the hood and my doors so water doesn’t get in).

I know you asked for no hummer reviews BUT sorry I have 2 in my house. I bought my daughter hers first I was sold on the safety features (little 2006 H3). Then about a month later I found my 2009 H3T (1 of the 56 ever made with a manual transmission and to make it a little more rare on of only 11 with cast iron differential.
Great trucks I have had minor repairs only for them both. Gas mileage has been super I would only trade for a hummer HX (only prototypes were made.

Why didn't GM pair this bad boy with a 6.6L Duramax Diesel with the Heavy Duty 6 speed Allison Transmission? It would have been game over.

I will give the H3 credit for having a manual while the H1 and H2 doesn't. I mean why not have a Hummer with a stick.

I have an H2. Has a cargo rack with a 5k watt genny and gas cans on it. Tows my off road spec travel trailer and yes front and rear suspension replaced plus tye rods. But I love this truck. Mines an 06 black etc. Forget the diesel. Too expensive to maintain. As is I have a fancy Blazer and am satisfied.
