- Effective today we are easing restrictions on pets travelling in the cabin. All WestJet flights will now allow for any type of animal to travel in the cabin provided it fits safely on board the aircraft. Further, we will no longer require animals to be kept in kennels while on board the aircraft.

I had a dog that looked so much like a bear people thought I did....he was the smartest dog you ever saw too..when he wanted out he said I waaaa. ooouu....or something similar...my mom baby sat him for a month and said he was the best guest she ever had....he loved mcdonalds...and like whimpy went on tuesday....I hope I see him in heaven..

I second ALL the good stuff that folks are saying about WestJet. Having travelled with them the last time we flew, makes me wonder why I previously travelled with any other airlines. Hats off to you folks for making the flying experience a worthwhile way to travel.
Richard Bartrem seems like a pretty great guy. He was on the same flight as me one time and paid for everyone's drinks out of pocket and took the time to talk to anyone who wanted to.

They do allow pets in the cabin..four per flight...but they must be under 22 pounds and that's including their soft side carrier which you must be able to fit under the seat. I know, because I flew from Toronto to Edmonton with my cat and she was allowed in cabin...but had to stay in her carrier...
I've seen people with their small dogs on board. Great soft carriers, and I think the rule is it has to fit under the seat in front, like any bags, but there is LOADS of space there. I am pretty sure it's an options for most airlines.

The real April fool's joke on their customers is that they have squeezed an inch of leg room from each row to make way for those four rows of extra roomy seats up front that now cost double.
I've already made sure my office flies me WestJet and NOT Air Canada.
If they do that, people will start showing up with their collection of pet scorpions and aggressive tarantulas on their shoulders. LOL! "This is Bitey, my venomous tarantula. Can I go up and show him to the Captain? He's mighty friendly."
bears are technically part of the canine family.

This would have been a much better 'prank' if you hadn't written "April Fools" in the title.
You can take your puppies on if they are small and fit in a carrier. My daughter has a cat and does that whenever she comes to visit. There is an extra $50.00 charger I believe but you can do it.
Ok but how are the animals effected by the "Helium" in the cabin to make the plane lighter and aren't the "Cargo Kid" upset they can't play with the animals in cargo any more?!?! LOL!!!

Actually most Caribbean destinations allow pets as long as you have current vet papers showing all shots are up to date, especially rabies. No quarantine required.
Still best to check the regulations with your destination of choice. We have friends who always take their small dog on vacations.

This is a cool video, I love the way a Airlines is ready to laugh and show us, how it will be very complicated or stupid to have our pets with us in the cabine :).
I had a horrible experience with Westjet airlined
But air canada has individual movie/entertainment screens for each seat and you don't have to pay for the movies. At least as far as I know :)

Ifi you have flown WestJet or looked at their website, they do allow pets - with restrictions obviously - no free-range gators and no bears in the loo :)

I was pretty excited about this at first, then really disappointed it was a spoof. We can’t fly with our pug because he’s taller than most and won’t fit in a cage under the seat. I guess we’ll just keep driving long distances, & not flying Westjet which is still, however, our airline of choice. It was a pretty cute April 1st gag, Westjet folks!

ha, i thought the same thing but it's because in other countries they have different time zones, like Japan, so that's why
i want people to know the cargo area of the plane as of now is where they will put your pet if you want to bring them but the conditions in the cargo hold are less than suitable for a comfortable flight.. it is usually not heated properly and the pet will go without food or water the whole trip.. some pets die this way.. it happens often.. why would an airline do that to a living creature? and why should we except this when we pay?

lol agreed. some people just dont have certain basic common sense. I still remember when the "cruise control" on automobiles just came out, someone fell asleep while driving coz he/she thinks the car can drive itself. not to mention that was around 2000. The car make company got sued for not putting down " the car cannot drive by itself, keep your eyes on the road".

Ya can actually bring your puppy with you on board depending on his height. There is a fee of $50 for a carry on pet and there are some size guidelines but 12 pounds is light enough! Go to westjet.com to find out the details.

I imagine it would be a liability issue for WestJet to not say it is a joke. What happens when someone tries to bring a bear to the airport because they saw it in a RUclips video that didn't explain it was a joke? Remember when people were mad they didn't get wings from drinking Red Bull? Ridiculous, but it still happens haha.

Come on guys, it's a gag. Airlines should consider a cabin in the back organized a certain way. That way they don't have to go into the hold.

take a 5 hour flight in the cargo hold yourself and then come back and comment.if you won't fly in cargo why would you want another living creature to do it??cats can be brought in a carrier dogs can be harnessed to a seat.birds and other smaller animals can be caged and even carried in the cage on the owners lap.. its not to difficult really.only spoild selfish yappy complainers have a hard time with this.someone with a heart and has the ability to care understands
