This vid was released 1 year after the death of the last survivor of the Bismarck. The office memorabilia and compass were his. The fishing boat skipper is his son.
The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released
Correct me if I'm wrong but they was the largest at the time of their construction. The British Battleship Vanguard build a few years later was a bit larger as far as I know.
@@hnorrstrom hms Vanguard was a couple of meters shorter and 4 meters thinner. In terms of tonnage she was a bit heavier than Bismarck but not as heavy as Tirpitz. So at the end of the day Tirpitz remain the largest battleship in Europe
@@hnorrstrom don't worry, it's a pleasure for me to talk about this things. Also yeah, Tirpitz in 1944 was around 53000 tonnes (about 3000 tonnes heavier than Bismarck) while Vanguard was around 52000. Not to mention that Tirpitz was actually faster than both at almost 31 knots

@@pneumonianakey That came from one of Bismarck's survivors. Apparently, the captain said to the crew, that a ship so powerful and majestic, can only be a he and not a she. If that is really true, nobody will ever know. BUT, some war diaries do support this theory....but there it also happens for some other German warships of the time, an example being the Prinz Eugen. Remember, in German, there is no universal "the", you get "der" (masculine), "die" (feminine) and "das" (neutral). In available documents, for Bismarck it was mostly neutral (just Bismarck), but when there was a "gender" assigned at all, it was always "der Bismarck"
I've used sabaton for school history projects multiple times, unfortunately my one of my history teachers was one of those "woke" individuals and the last song I used was Wehrmacht (which she didn't know who it was) and after doing a tiny bit of research she failed me on the project after seeing Nazi Germany.

When comes to ships size in WW, the biggiest was Yamato.
I have seen history teachers who make reaction videos and who say that they should use Sabaton videos in their teaching at school.
Nice one. They are just so good at what they do. 💯👍🏽
They made a new video . 1916. A cover of Motörhead. You will cry !
About the battle of Somme. Hugs from Sweden 🇸🇪 Land of Sabation🇸🇪

The use of masculine 'he' for the battleship is not a mistake: all ships are referred to as 'she', except the Bismarck.
Is it because he was named after that Bismarck dude?
@@pneumonianakey No, ships like Admiral Nelson or Prince Of Wales are 'she'.
@@jean-francoispirenne6518 so why is he called a he?
@@pneumonianakey This should be asked to the British Navy. They were the first to say 'he'.

Your teacher is a moron.
@Lorenzo Smit I always thought she only cared about money she'd get when she'd get high test scores or something like that, I'm not sure tbh.
any Azur Lane or KanColle player here?
They don't make it sound epic... The events are epic and they make a song about it :p
