Chronic constipation suffer here. I’ve never had a blockage, but what I’ve found helpful with being bound up is. Low impact exercise at least 15-20min a day, a daily fiber supplement along with adding more fiber in your diet, lots of water like an insane amount of water. I still have issues but doing these things help for sure.

      @Shieldhealthcare  6 лет назад +34

Hi there! Thanks for your comment. So, agreed, in part - don't drink any carbonated drinks if you're experiencing a total blockage. This is the advice from the United Ostomy Association of America: "If there is stomal output and you are not nauseated or vomiting, only consume liquids such as Coke, sports drinks, or tea." If you have had no stomal output for several hours, stop all intake of food and fluids and seek immediate medical attention. You can find more advice here: www.ostomy.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/IleostomyBlockage_2018.pdf

A salt water flush has helped me tremendously. Don't take it if you have any plans that day though. Do it on a day where you'll be home all day. Take it first thing in the morning before you eat anything. Full cup of warm water, 2 teaspoons of himalayan pink sea salt, and 2 lemons squeezed. Works like a charm. But drink alot of water afterwards and also replace your electrolytes.

Nice video, the best tip imo is massaging the area daily and meditation to reduce negative thinking, anxiety, and limiting beliefs. I used to get obstructions monthly (from ruptured appendix surgery I had 10 years ago) been to the er twice both times got an NG tube and waited it out. They suggested a Colostomy so that the damaged intestine could heal since it was so swollen from all the 40 plus episodes I've had since the first surgery. But I refused since I was only 20 years old.
I do plan on seeing a doc soon for check up. But every since I've been doing mediation and massage, the episodes have gone down to two a year. Please stay positive, blessings to all.

Years ago I had abdominal surgery. At the time the Dr said one of the risks is future intestinal blockages from scar tissue choking the intestines. Fast forward to today, a few days ago I literally felt something inside- around my csection scar- do like a flip flop! Then I had pelvic pain and difficulty going #2.
I did a salt water cleanse and drinking tons of water... like 4 quarts during the day. Another thing I did was increase my food intake. I have been dieting, and my heart told me to eat more to maybe push things along and back in place. I also did some yoga poses -including downward dog :) That stretch did feel good!

Thanks for this video. Just wanted to share my experience...Make sure you get a CT scan and NOT just an ultrasound. In 2020 I had abdominal pain several times for which I went to the emergency room twice and to my doctor a few times. I had at least 3-4 ultrasounds done and they never found anything, but I knew something was wrong.
December 20th 2020 the pain came back with full force so went back to ER for the third time, this time they finally did a CT scan after another unsuccessful ultrasound where they finally saw that I had an obstruction.
Turns out I had a neuroendocrine tumor in my small bowel. They ended up removing 4cm of my bowel that was damaged by the tumor. I'm still at home recovering now and I don't have cancer which I'm grateful for.
Moral of the story. Fucking Ultrasounds are only good for seeing babies... get a CT scan or something better if you have symptoms.

Had 6 hours of gastric pain continuously, admitted to hospital with people wondering why I'm hyperventilating, underwent surgery as appendicitis, then found out it was tangled of small intestine with adhesion tied around. I didn't know it was that severe which I assume because I'm a dancer with high pain tolerance, that 6 hours was agonizing and enough to validate something serious was going on. Of course after the surgery, there's 7 days of no eating, 11 days of no water, 4 tubes in your body including IV tube to get all the acid out (for 11 days). As a person who had no previous operation, having adhesion tied around the intestine was a rare case, all I can say is to control your emotions, because that's the only fault I can find in my case.

It has been my experience to strictly avoid carbonated beverages at all times, but especially during a blockage. This just adds to the pain by introducing gas to the situation. I always drink lots of tea, be it hot or iced. Tea is a diuretic and softens the stool and helps things run smoothly. And FYI, if you want to clean your system and pouch out, have bacon, eggs, and a big cup of nice hot tea. You’ll have two, nice, mostly liquid bagfuls over the next hour, and you’ll be good to go until after your next meal.

I am 70 YO and I was having a huge problem with this. A year ago I was worried I might die on the toilet.
I now mix a small box of bran flakes in with a larger box of my normal cereal which is usually corn flakes.
I use a large plastic container to store this combination in. Too much bran, makes me go too readily.
I also take 1 Acme Brand (Signature) "Stool softener Plus Stimulant Laxative" pill every day.
Those 2 things together have made a huge difference.
    I hope this helps someone.

Good info. I had a small bowel obstruction in small intestine a four days ago. I ate a huge spinach salad with various veggies and a shit ton of nuts like pistachios, almonds and whatever trail mix has in it. I ended my 6 hour eating window (I fast) with a kale smoothie. Started with cramps at around 6pm until 11pm...then went to ER as cramps were relentless. I was in hospital 2 days...They gave me the NG tube after CT Scan and Xrays. I've been trying to eat normal for the last few days and staying away from too much fibre and nuts for sure.

Hi Laura these informations are very useful. Im from Singapore and not many infos I can get from the healthcare here. My daughter had stoma since she was 2 days old with colostomy and we are still learning to care for her eventhough now shes 8 years old with an illestomy. Last year, we had to rush her to ER for intestinal obstruction followed by high fever and dehydration. I now understand the pattern she was in so we try to becareful in what she eat and observe. I would also do a stoma wash out using cathether with warm saline water if she complains of bad stomache. Immediately we can see the output stream out. It does help to relieve her pain after the wash out is done. We try not to send her to the ER as much we do in the past as there is only few pediatric doctors who are experience in handling her case. I hope you can share more in the future for me to understand my childs condition better. Thank you very much for sharing.

    Hi.
Again. It’s me again, I have discovered that my constipation with slow digestion was due to some kind of potassium deficiency. I knew this from looking at my diet. It seems that taking in more potassium has done job. I did go to doctor but it seems as if the doctor missed this. potassium is important for digestion, bowel function, etc. potassium in the right amount is a natural laxative but one that you need as well. It directly or Indirectly pulls water into the colon to help soften stools. Thats one of the ways potassium helps you relieve yourself in the bathroom. I still get bloated but not severe in the absence of constipation.

Most foods have it. Some foods have it more than others and are good sources of it like dairy, meat, fruits, veggies, tubers, and legumes. Just read nutrition labels.
An even important or just an important factor in bowel movements is fat . . .
      dietary fat in this case.
Fatty meals stimulate pooping . . .I mean normal bowel movements. No diarrhea.
Too much fat particularly in one sitting may cause the opposite of a healthy bowel movement which is diarrhea.
Great sources of dietary fats or healthy fats are meat, seafood, dairy, legumes, nuts, etc. These foods are higher in healthy fats than other foods.

I just got out of the hospital today with a small bowel obstruction , it seems to have cleared up it self this time . ( I pray ) . I've had 3 intestinal adhesion surgeries so far , the last one being the worst . The surgeon accidentally cut into my intestines and that caused a very bad infection in my incision . They had to put me on a wound pump for 3 months and it took a year for that infection to finanally clear up and heal . I seriously don't think I can go through anoher adhesion surgery . I get scared every time I get a stomach ache .

The last thing I would do is go to a doctor or hospital. Their ideas about the body are sadistic and brutal and often cause more problems than you started out with. I think the body can do it on its own but to tamper with it like getting surgery is folly. Yes sometimes what doctors do works without problems but way too often there are problems, like over 50% of the time.

I had an intestinal blockage but it was more toward or very close to the anus. This is one of the symptoms of ongoing constipation. That can you get bloated as well as a food intolerance or some other cause. I had to strain to poop to which led to blood in stool. I disagree that water or fluids relieve any sort of intestinal blockage. As the body only uses a portion of water to soften stool unless your using a powerful conventional laxative. Sodium alongside potassium does this. sufficent amounts that is. When your dehydrated it means that you have lost electrolytes such as sodium or potassium or other vitamins or nutrients and that you need to replace them.
Foods hydrate you . . . not only fruits and vegetables or plant foods. Water doesn’t hydrate you since it mainly helps flush out excessive amounts of sodium or other nutrients through sweat or urine. Gently massaging the abdomen could help as break down stool or whatever into pieces but will not fully eliminate the need to strain to poop but will make straining to poop a little easier which could reduce the severity of pain in your colon/intestinal or colon/intestinal walls when you strain to poop.

Have suffered from constipation daily for 24 years. I have a severely elongated colon and it just doesn't function anymore. Nothing I take helps, even a colonoscopy prep kit does nothing. Doctors to this day won't even acknowledge that I have a problem. I don't eat anymore because it's just too much misery.

My GI dr said many people with chronic constipation have a magnesium deficiency. I have added a supplement and it helps. Doesn’t hurt to ask and try it if they ok.
