You definitely can camp at Fort Massac! If you visit again, set up next to the river and you can also count the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail and the Trail of Tears National Historic trail for a threefer. (Check the official websites for those two trails for more information.)
What a fun adventure! You will like your 7100. It is my only transceiver, and I still prefer it over other radios.
I have it the shack for the time being. I like it. It reminds me of my 706. I think it's going to be a keeper.
