  • A short video made by Greg Dennis on the Rockpool Taran, manufactured by Mike Webb and designed by John Willacy. The Taran comes in 16 and feet lengths and can also be manufactured as a three piece kayak for use on trips overseas where haulage is an issue

Awesome work Jeff. Watching you, I just realized I still got a lot to learn.

The bulbous bow immediately reminds me of Alaskan kayak bow shapes. George Dyson and Harvey Golden have published good papers on them. So I believe this follows Inuit design but from a different region. Thank you for the video! I appreciate becoming more educated on what is out there and how the sea inspires us.

Inspiring video, thank you very much, Jeff. Currently have the option to acquire a well priced Taran (18). Am a rock player and distance paddler, have an Aries 155 and Explorer HV, also surfskis. I’m looking for a conditions and winter boat for fitness and downwind. 195 cm, 100 kg, UK 13.5 shoe size. Probably not much taller (but probably heavier ☹️) than you. Will this boat fit me?

Thanks for the video. I notice that you also paddle a SoF Nautiraid. Do you prefer one over the other? Or is it horses for courses, in which case do you have any tips on which would be best for which situations. Thanks.

wow, I didn´t know that all Rockpool kayaks could be built as a three piece! that´s amazing!:)

For myself I actually don't like that, because if the kayak is getting into some larger waves, putting more stress on the hull, those parts can potentially make it break apart. Steel hooks also rust over time.

@@khelben1979 True, a one piece kayak is probably way more durable!

Is there a video that shows what the hull of the Taran is shaped like? Is it round like a torpedo, or V shape?
