- One who understands the tragedy better than most is the wife of Vladimir Kara-Murza, an opposition politician who was sentenced last April to 25 years in prison for treason and other charges that he has denied. Evgenia Kara-Murza has been a prominent voice for the freedom of her husband, who last month was transferred to a new Siberian penal colony and is currently being held in strict isolation. Kara-Murza joins the show to discuss the death of Navalny and the fears it stokes for the fate of other Russian political prisoners.

Today, after my initial shock and grief at the death of Navalny, I instantly thought of Vlad Kara-Murza, who is also languishing in prison with inadequate healthcare after surviving two poisoning attempts. I’m terrified he’s next.
I pray for Kara-Murza’s and Ilya Yashin’s safety, and for the safety of all of their families. I pray for Navalny’s friends and loved ones too.

As a long-time supporter of Navalny, I must now acknowledge that throughout all those years, he exclusively portrayed Putin as a thief and corrupt figure, rather than addressing him as a war criminal responsible for annexing Crimea and igniting the conflict in Donbas. Navalny completely excluded the Russia-Ukraine tensions from his agenda, while Kremlin TV propaganda dehumanized Ukrainians daily, indoctrinating Russians for an impending war. With this political shortsightedness, the pursuit of power, and appeasement of Crimea annexation sympathizers (i.e., the majority of the Russian population), Navalny unintentionally encouraged the transformation of Russians into fascists and the consolidation of Putin's rule. Ultimately, this is what led to his demise. Russian people never forgive attempts to love them. They only forgive tyrants

Can the distinction really be any clearer? There are those who risk and indeed sacrifice even their lives to stand up to a dictator and thus show the way to a better future. Then there are those, that avoid all risk, and simply exploit the opportunity to gain just a little more fame, fortune or power by aligning themselves with these monsters. Tucker Carlson is essentially a comedian - not a serious investigative journalist. He admits this himself. Therefore it came as no surprise to me when Putin lead him by the nose taking him on a selective and self-indulging 'historical' trip of Russia and Ukraine. Tucker having studied history, should have gone prepared. To the contrary it appeared that Tucker was essentially winging it with light weight chatter. Therefore expecting anything serious to have emerged from the encounter was reaching way too far. All we can hope is that the Russian people awake from their slumber since 1991. The critical thing that Navalny's killing points, is to how weak and fragile Putin is in reality. It is essential that Ukraine be given the weaponry that will turn the war in their favour. The political will within the US and EU seems very weak - seems they betting on Putin changing heart.
Eugenia, you are a very brave lady. Stay strong on behalf of all good people in Russia, and there are very many I am sure. Stay safe. ❤
