  • I believe the manual is wrong, the drain plug should be 21N-m
    On this Episode I'm going to change the oil and the oil filter on the 2015 Ducati Scrambler classic, I will also remove the exhaust to access the mesh filter behind it. I show step to step how to do it according to the ducati maintenance manual. This also apply to all air cooled ducati with an 803cc engine like the monster 796, the sizes might change but the steps are basically the same.
    We are one step closer to make the Scrambler in tip top mechanical shape.
    I hope you guys enjoy and thanks for watching.

      Look how dirty is the oil you are pulling out, if it's sludgy, you might want to clean the screen filter, if the oil is nice and fluid, you could skip it.

    Hi Albe! I'm one of them that thigten the drain plug screw too much following the manual. Now I'm thinking to replace it and in that occasion I'll change the oil and I'll clean the mesh filter.
    I was wondering if the torque value for the mesh filter itself and for the outer screw are correct this time (42Nm). In conclusion if I'm not wrong we should have:
    Oil Filter 11Nm, oil drain plug 20Nm, Mesh filter and outer screw 42Nm. Last question: What is the right insert to screw out the mesh filter? I didn't see it in the video.
    Thank you very much for this and for the other videos, very usefull! Cheers from Italy!

    • @AlbesADV

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  2 года назад +1

      If it’s not too badly bent, you can try heating it up and bending it back. I don’t have a video about it but it’s not too hard. The brake is held in place by a single nut behind the foot peg bracket, watch out for the spring, then disconnect the pin that holds the master cylinder plunger and you are done. Shift pedal even easier, same nut, watch out for the o-rings, then disconnect the shift rod where it’s more convenient. I hope this helps.

    What's the oil life of Ducati Scrambler 2016 full throttle?

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  4 года назад

      Hi Dhaval, according to the manual, you need an oil change every 7500 miles or 12 months whichever comes first, but a lot depends on how you ride and where you ride, it could be as early as 3000 miles

      Albe, thank you for the reply. I understand now.
      I’m going to be changing my own oil for the first time thanks to your help. I also successfully added the gear indicator by watching your other video 👍🏻
      I’ve noticed that my street classic has no oil filter that fits on any website lol. I’m assuming that it would be the same as any other scrambler (KN153).
      Cheers!

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  4 года назад

      Should be the same...did you check with the k&n website directly to get a part number?

    • @zeronomon
      @zeronomon 4 года назад +1

      Yes, I even called them. The part number on my Street Classic OEM oil filter is 444.4.0038A, which is very confusing since they couldn’t find a reference/comparison to any of theirs, but I do have the 803 engine, it’s strange. I might just play it safe and order an OEM filter.

      If you really want a K&N, You can always order one on amazon and if it doesn’t look right send it back, obviously don’t try to put it on if you are going to send it back

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  6 лет назад

      No, I usually replace the crush washer, unless I'm in a bind, like one time I found out the washer I bought for my F800GS was the wrong size but I already flushed the oil, so I made sure the washer was still serviceable and I re used it. In a pinch you should be able to re use one, just check for leaks often.

    My input as a designer of injection molds and what I’d have drawn up for Ducati. Just a few simple things could’ve made removal of the mesh filter, and thus, an oil change, routine!!!!
    In no particular order:
    • Design Option #1: Route the exhaust about an inch lower, thus allowing enough clearance for mesh filter removal. Lose some ground clearance yes, but not that big a deal for most riders.
    Design Option #2: Reposition the mesh filter in the crank case. Duh
    Design Option #3: Make the mesh filter diameter smaller, thus possibly creating enough clearance for removal.
    Design Option 4: Eliminate the actual need for a mesh filter.
    Jesus, I can’t believe they pay engineers at Ducati for this BS!

    A dry oil filter? Pretty sure you're supposed to put oil in the filter before you install it. Oil passageways to the top of the motor draw clean oil from the filter. You're doing premature wear to the motor like that. Remember you warmed the engine up to improve viscosity for better draining? Then took the filters off with the drain plug still off? You took the vacuum holding clean oil in the top end away allowing it to drain too. Plus a dry filter means a lot less oil at start up. Remember, air compresses, fluids do not. Will take awhile for oil to start circulating with all that air in the system preventing oil pressure.
    You didn't double check the old filter ring gasket wasn't stuck to the bottom still.
    And I agree on the 31ft lbs on what looked like a steel m8 thread plug... Into an aluminum case... Who told you that? I bet you're going to be a Helicoil pro.
    Get a factory service book. Read it and the correct torque specs. Get a paint stick to mark the plugs after torquing. And if you use a torque wrench, use one that's been calibrated too.

    • @AlbesADV
      @AlbesADV  5 лет назад +2

      Pretty sure you are not.
      Here we go again, first, the torque specs and the procedure come straight off the Ducati service manual, the manual had a miss print, read the other comments, that is why I stopped tightening the drain plug when I saw the crush washer starting to warp. Second, the oil filter is located below the full line on the sight glass, therefore it fills up before you are done topping off the oil, hence the oil filter is already filled with oil when you start the engine. When you drain an engine all the parts are still coated with oil and the oil pump will take a second to replenish the oil lines, does not take a while, it’s an 800cc engine not a 6.7 L v12.
      On the BMW F800GS and many other bikes and cars I worked on, the oil filter is positioned sideways on the front of the engine, how do you go about filling that oil filter before reinstalling it?
      “Double checking the old filter gasket is not stuck to the engine”, are you for real? Any half good mechanic will clean where the oil filter seats before reinstalling the new filter, that goes without saying, and if you look when I reinstall the filter the engine is pretty clean right there.
      I haven’t marked an oil drain plug that wasn’t for a race engine or an aircraft since in the past 30 years and I haven’t lost a drain plug yet, you’ll see oil leaking way before you loose the plug, I’m not saying that it’s wrong, I just don’t think it’s necessary, and to conclude, yes my torque wrench is calibrated.
      Thanks for watching

      Since all the facts I mentioned are not enough here is another video, one of the many showing the same procedure ruclips.net/video/pXt0tu_puEE/видео.html , or even Better go to your local Ducati factory dealer and ask one of their mechanics. Feel free to make your own “how to” video and school me on how it’s done. By the way, the only benefit of filling up the filter before install is that it enables the recommended oil level to be maintained without topping up.
