He's actually been pretty prolific for more than ten years, but previous work was almost all rock. Welles, Dead Indian, and Cosmic American were his previous bands, 4+ albums in total?
I'm surprised more people haven't just searched his last name and found this out already. He's got plenty of stuff here on RUclips with his rock band over the years, including live performances recorded for a local PBS station. Personally, I'm liking this newer folk stuff even more. But it is confusing that he doesn't have all of it on his own RUclips channel, and is only putting out the folk stuff there now.
I like the Boeing song myself, but Jesse Welles is going big because he’s real. He’s a real dude, with real talent. He doesn’t have to worry about record labels. I got his back, hope everyone else does too!
Man I jammed with him a few times in high school and to be honest I just heard his song The Poor the other day and thought he looked familiar, it popped up on here and boom it clicked. Wish I'd knew he'd been making music all this time. I gotta check out his other releases.
i love some of the songs he’s released on youtube fat is an amazing satire for how corporations blame consumers for the negative effects of their purposefully addictive products
Dude you NEED to listen to John Prine. Some of the simplest yet deep lyrics of all time. He wrote songs that could made you feel like the protagonist was your neighbor or a friend of a friend. He was a mailman after serving, and would whistle and sing tunes until one day someone said something to the effect of 'you outta sing where people can here you some day' so he wrote a tune on the way to an open mic. He had surgery on his neck later in life and his voice transitioned to this gruff rumbly sound even though his songs are sweet and deep and thought provoking. Some of my favorites: Souvenirs, Christmas in Prison, Paradise, Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore, and Donald and Lydia. PLEASE LISTEN TO JOHN TODAY. TONIGHT. he was a god send, a one of a kind, one of the most genuine people to ever write and record.
I'm a 37 year old professional musician, so it becomes rarer these days to be profoundly affected by music that is new to me, and "War Isn't Murder" hit me hard. Jesse's songs live inside my head
Hopefully the day will come when you do NOT care about being treated as a "weirdo"**.... Not NECESSARILY suggesting you take pride in weirdness, (especially weirdness JUST for the sake of weirdness), but I am suggesting to learn to keep your "chin UP" (I know--easier said than done) **Especially when those TREATING you like a weirdo have THEIR OWN "species" of weirdness, or ESPECIALLY if they are basically of the type of people what I call the "Clone Collective".... People who are so SELF CONSCIOUS they couldn't even walk barefoot into a Post Office even if you PAID them to, because they would be TOTALLY unable to handle just the STARES of the people around them... Hell they probably would be incapable of wearing their underwear inside out for literal or FIGUREATIVE "shits-n-giggles" AND this comment alone will make NO SENSE to them at all..... THOSE type of people you should just learn to blow or brush off--you know, like dandruff on your shoulders?? 🙄🤣
Anything But Me is my current favorite song, in general. Was listening to it (for only the second or 3rd time) last night, at home in the handful of hours between two sixteen-hour shifts. By the time the video was over I was sobbing uncontrollably.
Surely you have at least heard a few Prine songs and just didn’t know who it was ? Man you’ve got a deep rabbit hole coming and it’s gonna be epic for you 😂
He's definitely amazing. His guitar skills are like Elliott Smith and his lyrics are like Conor Oberst! He's amazing and when he plays with his band he screams like Kurt Cobain.. what a blessing! He popped up in my algorithm and I am an automatic fan. 🙋♀️💖💯
One of his more recent songs had lyrics implying that he never wanted to work for a label again. Only way onto the radio Is to play the big money game. I don't think he doesn't want success but he spent a long time grinding, touring, putting out albums to very little avail. One big hit called 17 but that was it.
Two of my favorites are God, Abraham and Xanax. It’s so on point! And of course Fat! As a woman who has lost 200 lbs without surgery, that song is 100% on point!
Comparison to John Prine is definitely accurate, thought that immediately! And yes John Prine was an amazing lyricist/guitarist/singer in his time, right up there with Dylan and Townes Van Zandt
Definitely check out John Prine. Jesse Welles is like it John Prine and Bob Dylan had a love child. He's also a BRILLIANT rock artist. Look up just "Welles" and you'll see his rock trio's equally amazing work.
Yes, yes, yes. He is an other worldly fairy with invisible wings. The creative love child of Roger Miller, Mark Twain and John Kennedy Toole. A legend at birth. Just let him on the "Astin City Limits" stage already. Glad someone else appreciates what my soul celebrates, as a long overdue breath of fresh air in the creative musical landscape. If he also writes novels, look out Stephen King. Lol
I’m in love with Jesse’s music and his charm. I’ve heard him compared to Bob Dylan. His songs all seem to be from the heart are definitely the kind of music. I love. Check out his RUclips channel. There’s tons of songs on there.❤❤❤❤
You’d think people would do some research on a person before calling them a small artist. I’ve been listening to him for years and can’t find out how he and his band aren’t bigger than they are. I love everything he writes. He’s a great songwriter.
Why are you commenting on music? You haven't ever heard Prine and Jesse Welles has only done 3 songs, he's been a recording artist for 10+ years. Fairplay your spreading the word about a great artist!
The Olympics is my fav of Jesse's so far. John Prine isn't a Longshot comparison. If you'd like a solid laugh, start with illegal smile. Angel from Montgomery is a personal fav.
Listen to John Prine. The first album I heard by him was diamonds in the rough. The whole album was my soundtrack in my head for several years. Still remember some of the words. LOL
I started at the beginning...Found his old stuff with his band..I love his truth..and you can understand him and he's simple..I hope he doesn't get to commercial with the fluff..He's good..
This guy is like a modern dylan Using his gift of stellar writing and picking to call out the bs in the modern world I love his music and i hope he goes far
Jesse Wells has been around for a while, he used to make rock type music. Songs like Life Like Mine, Hold Me Like You're Leaving, Seventeen, etc. I like his folk music better tho
Jesse Welles has been around for over a decade releasing songs and albums, participating in various bands like Dead Indian and Cosmic-Americana He's fantastic.
Im 39 and generally listen to rap/hip hop and 70's hippie rock/funk. This kid caught my attention bc he sounds like a Tom Petty! I love rap but Ive been to many Tom Petty & Fleetwood Mac concerts. I just saw Santana too. This kid got the hippie vibes to me. 😊
He released a full album on Spotify with songs he posted on his social media platforms. It’s called Hells Welles and it is absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend it to everyone!
He doesn't only have 3 songs out. He's been around for a while, and his older stuff is more psychedelic rock. All you have to do is search his name on YT, and you'll see his older stuff
His stuff is so brilliant. He uploads on youtube almost daily. i dont understand how someone can make such good songs in such a short time he made a banger about the debate last night. My favorite song is "God, Abraham and Xanax."
You needed to be listening to John Prine years ago. Jesse is good but in no way is he comparable with the incomparable John Prine. May he rest in peace!
He gives me such Bob Dylan vibes. I remember the country was so divided by Vietnam and civil rights. Dylan brought out the clever lyrics. I see Jesse as a protest singer/writer. Love him
It is accurate to say that his style is similar to the work of John Prine. I am a great John Prine fan. His lyrics are comically delivered but there are storylines which can cautionary. Dear Abby was the first of John Prines songs my grand dad introduced me to when I was a kid, but I didn’t understand the lyrics till I was grown. Give it a spin and listen to more of his works. It has a way of quickly growing on you. It’s real life stuff.
John Prine saved my life on several occasions. Just when I thought I’d reached the end and took one step off the cliff, John would make me laugh at my own misery.
iTunes Store, just dropped an albums worth of all this recent stuff. It’s great, and he didn’t price gouge! 6 bucks for the album! Jesse has def found his calling and place in music at the moment
He’s got a bunch more than 3 songs on other platforms.
most are on youtube! i dont know if its on spotify but i love whistle boeing
his youtube has like 14 songs now
Fat is my favorite
@@carbon-based-lifeform9172and Cosmic American
Went by Breck Shipley. Not sure his real name.
I think he knows that, given that he showed a video of his in his video.
He's actually been pretty prolific for more than ten years, but previous work was almost all rock. Welles, Dead Indian, and Cosmic American were his previous bands, 4+ albums in total?

Oh so he’s the guy from Welles? I thought he was familiar
Well, what do you want from a guy wearing overalls that just came off the hanger and hasn't ever listened to John Prine? Posers everywhere.
@@TakenTook I think he's pushing for a full "rebrand" of his image and it's definitely working
I like the Boeing song myself, but Jesse Welles is going big because he’s real. He’s a real dude, with real talent. He doesn’t have to worry about record labels. I got his back, hope everyone else does too!
AHHH SO CATCHY 😭 I guess that's how you know it's a hit! 💯🤷♀️
Boeing prolly my favorite fat is good too
Boeing is definitely mine too. Dude's the Woody Guthrie of our generation.
Damn straight i concur I also enjoy the boeing song my self
im worried the lyrics are ai written... idk tho
Grew up knowing Jesse. Great dude and doesn’t get near the love he deserves even from his hometown
No prophet is accepted in his own country

@@Rush-91 pretty cool!

Yes thank you for talking about him, this dude is so good!!
i love some of the songs he’s released on youtube
fat is an amazing satire for how corporations blame consumers for the negative effects of their purposefully addictive products
It's insane how the satire just flies over some people's heads. I've seen some using that song to dogpile and abuse people.
The Poor is my favorite. Same idea but poor.

Dude!
I know?!? But you know what that means? Someone will listen to John Prine for the first time, and it will be a good day.
I was coming to comment this 😂
LMAO, dude has a RUclips channel about music and hasnt listened to John Prine yet.

Do check into his full band stuff as well at his other channel Welles
he also played in Dead Indian, and their music is fire too
Love Jesse Welles. First heard him 2 weeks ago. Been obsessed since. More available on his instagram.

generational talent!
Connor Oberst is a great comparison. I've not been touched by lyrics this hard since first listening to AJJ, 10-15 years ago.
Dylanesque for sure
Man this kids talent is something special
I love the way his songs sound. Glad I found this music.
I knew him about a decade ago, he was a chill and genuine dude. Good to see he kept pursuing music
Those 3 Jesse Welles songs were back to back infatuation and appreciation for me. I don't even jam his sound but dang is his sound beautiful
Been listening to him for years so now the dude is super talented
Discovered this pal today and I'm completly hooked.
I found him not long ago and subbed immediately. I would love to see/hear him at a small venue with a few cold beers. He’s TALENT! 🙌🏼🎼🎸🎙️
Check out Welles too. It's more band music. He's been a round a minute
I know his mom, and from what i've seen, both of them are amazing people!!
Jesse Welles has a huge catalogue on RUclips!!
I just found him tonight and just listened every once of his songs on RUclips his lyrics are great his sarcastic f u to the current system is great
This guy is the best of our generation when it comes to activist music
You pick and song and start listening. The YT algo gods blessed me with one of his shorts 2 days ago and I’m hooked.
Yup. War isn’t murder and cancer are in close close ties for me. Such a loving and thoughtful guy, that Jesse. Been really loving his stuff recently.
Yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get this man the publicity he deserves!!!! 🎉❤❤🎉
I have listened to Jesse Welles the last few days . He has a lot to say and knows how to say it .
He has a much broader catalogue than 3 songs, even on RUclips. A tremendous artist by all means
Welles is just flat out awesome.
We all need to be calling radio stations and requesting his songs. They need to be turned onto this

Months later and over 50 released songs in that same time span.
I can’t wait to hear more from Jesse! But what world do you live in-no John Prine???!!! That is sad😢
No, it will be a happy day; someone will hear John Prine for the first time! Oh boy!
I know this video is older but his song Whistle Boeing is definitely my favorite. It’s not on Spotify yet but his RUclips channel has more songs
So good I need multiple copies on vinyl!
His whistle-blower song is amazing.
In spite of ourselves by John prine is amazing too

I wouldn’t say he sounds like Prine but Jesse sure has the songwriting skills as him. He puts some great lyrics together.
“fat” is my current t favorite. Going to see him on the 11th in Nashville. Already the best $13 I ever spent.
