The F-15 engines together produce a lot more than 46,000 lbs of thrust. Each engine on full afterburner in the C, D, E models produce a little more than 28,000 lbs of thrust for a total of ~57,000 lbs of thrust. The very first engines in the A and B models produced about as much thrust as you quoted but ALL of the A and B models have been retired for many years. They were the very first ones built in 1975. The brand new F-15 EX Eagles II has even more powerful engines. The new ones produce about 31,000 lbs of thrust for a total of ~62,000 lbs of thrust. This isn’t the highest thrust engine the US produces though. The F-22’s 2 engines together produce 70,000 lbs or 35,000 apiece. The highest thrust engine ever put into an American jet and I think jets period is the F-35’s engine. It produces 43,500 lbs of thrust. So if you had a plane with 2 of these engines it would produce a mind bending 87,000 lbs. but the F-35 only has one engine. To put it into perspective more the F-26’s single engine produces about 29,000 lbs of thrust.

The F-14 has never been shot down in air-to-air combat. Both aircraft have been downed by ground fire though. The F-14 doesn’t have the kills though

The F-14 has definitely been shot down in air to air combat, just not while in U.S service. Just like most of the F-15 air to air kills weren't made by U.S Pilots.

_The F-15 record is somewhat over-rated_ but to understand why I say that, it is necessary to travel back in time to Vietnam. The F-4 was a plane that was built to be a missile fighter and interceptor, but the primary weapon for engaging targets are beyond visual range (BVR) was the AIM -7. The military very quickly realized that with all of the various services flying missions all over the Vietnam, it would be very dangerous to shoot a missile at a target you could not positively identify, so as a result, rules of engagement were much more severe and the vast majority of engagements were done within visual range (dogfights). Also, the F-4 frequently faced a modern, near-peer airplane, the Mig 21. The military recognized that to actually be able to use BVR missiles, you had to know where your enemy was coming from and you had to be sure that it was an enemy. In 1965, the military prioritized the development of Airborne Early Warning and Command System, or what is more commonly known as "AWACS." The AWACS system would be able to provide radar coverage out to 400 kilometers and not only warn pilots of approaching threats, but it could also track every friendly aircraft in the sky, so that at any given time, the AWACS had a complete and detailed picture of the battle space. The AWACS entered service in 1977 and it has been in the sky for virtually every major military engagement since that year. This means that the F-15 pilot was given bearing, altitude, and speed information in real time for every threat in its vicinity. If there was to be an action, the AWACS commander would tap an F-15 flight and vector it into a position that was safe for the F-15 so that it could do an intercept of the bandit. Flying in mostly straight and level flight (because the AWACS was watching their backs) an F-15 would use its radar when the AWACS said it was in range, and once it had a lock, it would get permission from the AWACS to fire because the AWACS needed to ensure that no friendly aircraft ventured into the kill zone. Once AWACS command was satisfied, the order was given to Fox 1 the bandit. The remarkably good AIM -7 Sparrow would then fly out to near its maximum range and destroy the target that the pilot of the F-15 had not actually ever seen except maybe for the flash of the warhead and exploding target. Also, most of the adversaries were older, lower tier aircraft while the F-4 faced the excellent Mig 21 quite regularly. Many people see the combat record of the F-15 and have this romanticized notion that the F-15 engaged its enemies in aggressive dogfights and outmaneuvered them and shot them down with guns blazing (though no US fighter has had a gun kill since 1970) but the reality is all to often, the F-15 was simply a delivery van for the AIM-7 and its fire control system, that was directed to its position by AWACS. The VAST majority of F-15 kills were AIM-7 BVR kills, while the majority of F-4 kills were Sidewinder kills made in tight maneuvering battles. The F-15 had the enormous advantage of AWACS that the F-4 could not have, and that the military realized badly needed but it took 17 years to get that capability in place, and the F-15 was the plane that benefitted from the AWACs the most. Imagine how history might have been different if the F-4 had the benefit of an all seeing eye in the sky to tell it where to go so it could use its AIM-7 to the same effect and not have to worry about shooting down some Marine doing close air support for some grunts. Or, imagine that the AWACS did not exist in all of the major engagements the USAF has been involved in since 1977? If it had to fight dogfights against near peer level aircraft without the benefit of AWACS, would it have the perfect record it has today? If the F-4 had AWACS, is it likely that it would have a much better kill record than it has today? The F-15 gets all of the glory the reality is that it enjoyed an enormous Goldilocks environment where it was fed a steady stream of outdated opponent aircraft that it could kill from great distances without the RIO spilling his coffee. The F-15 is a great plane, and the record is the record, but my contention is that what really made that record great was the combination of the AWACS commanding the sky, and the F-15 delivering the radar and AIM-7 to the right place and right time, as directed by the AWACS commander.

. That's why the F-15 EAGLE 🦅 replaced the F-4 Phantom, because it couldn't get the job and thanks for your narrative on slamming the F-15 EAGLE, the world's greatest air superiority fighter and no other aircraft has that record and by the way, all 104 aircraft that the F-15 shot down, were ours and as a Russian fighter pilot, unlike you, we respect and have high regard for the F-15 EAGLE and you can see why, so put that in your pipe and smoke it! 🇷🇺

@@craig4867 And it could not have done it without the AWACS, which the F-4 didn't have, and which came into existence because the F-4 was having to dogfight and because of that, The F-15 didn't have to dogfight. Mostly it was just a delivery van for the radar and the AIM -7, which is actually what did the vast majority of the kills. But you can think what you chose and that is fine, but in my mind, the F-15 got the benefit of AWACs and no other combat plane in US History before the F-15 had that massive advantage.

@@shenmisheshou7002 AWACs we're around when the F-4 was still flying and it still couldn't pull it off and that's why they came up with a new aircraft called the F-15 and now the new F-15EX and as a Russian fighter pilot, we're all sitting here wondering why you don't respect the F-15 an Americans have a tendency to trash it! Shameful and you should be ashamed! Thank God you're not in Russia 🇷🇺

@@craig4867 By that time, the F-22 was being used for almost all air superiority missions, and the F-4 was being used mostly for close air support. The ariel combat use of the F-15 was by Isreal. On 2 June 1979, Israeli F-4 Phantoms and A-4 Skyhawks flew to attack suspected terrorist bases near Sidon in southern Lebanon. Flying cover for the attack aircraft was a force of six F-15s and two Israeli-built Kafir fighters. All aircraft were guided by an E-2C AWACS (Airborne Warning And Control System) aircraft, a modified 747 that carried sophisticated radar and tracking equipment. The F-4s were laden with bombs and the F-15s were providing air support. This is the case in just about every theater that the F-15 was used in. In almost all cases, if there were F-4s, they were being used for attacks, and the F-15s were being used for air superiority, and just about every time the US used the F-15 in combat, it was under the direction of an AWACS. Most US F-22 kills were AIM -7 kills, but the Israelis had several sidewinder kills and one gun kill that I know of (No US fighter of any type has made a gun kill since 1970). AWACS and AIM-7 deserve as much credit for the F-15's performance as the plane itself.
