the thing is the 1999 version were more bolder exploring so many themes that shows today tries to avoid. there's so many examples for that including this blatantly hinting of a leopika endgame. there's literally NO REASON to add leorio there at that park part but they did and even made the kids' expressions like that as if they knew what YOU knew. there's also that one scene of killua watching 'that' in their hotel room in the middle of the knight that acknowledges those curiosity of kids abt to be teenagers. plus i love how the art style perfectly portrayed real darkness when it's required. like, compare assassin mode killua here to the 2011 one and you'd see he's more scarier and truly intimidating here (specially when he's abt to scare off those bastards at heaven's arena) that you wouldn't just be reminded he's an assassin but you can really feel and see it.
All of the leopika scenes were just fanservice for shippers... not a conspiracy for themes that are "avoided in today's shows" specially not when there's literally a lot of "Killugon" on 2011.
