Thank you so much for this video. It's our first year homeschooling. We started in October, so it was baptism by fire for us with homeschooling and Abeka curriculum. It is overwhelming at times. This video has helped us realize we are on the right track. Thank you! God Bless ✝️❤️
Just started with Abeka. I was definitely overwhelmed with the curriculum when I first received it! I will be customizing it as well. After all with one on one teaching, we don't need to fill an 8 hour school day and this curriculum is used in private school to fill that time for a whole classroom of kids. I will likely end up piece mealing. I will be teaching useful common core math and traditional. Some from Abeka, some from Math Mammoth. Next year, we may be using Abeka for only one or two subjects. But this is the beauty of homeschool!
Great video- I like Abeka language arts a lot. We used k5 last year and this coming year our oldest will be in first grade and our second in k5. I cut a ton of the busy work out as well. I think it’s a good curriculum and you have to know you can make it what you want!
Wonderful video! We are changing curriculum to abeka this coming year. My oldest will be in second grade. Any tips? I plan to review the sounds in handbook for reading as she is not familiar with many of them
Yes the handbook for reading has everything in it! It’s pretty much all I used when my daughter was in K5 and she reads great now. Just be consistent too! That’s the key.
Did your daughter start the curriculum not knowing how to read much? She reads so well! My daughter is starting 1st grade and I’m having so much trouble choosing her curricula. I’ve looked at the good and the beautiful, all about reading, bju, Abeka. It’s overwhelming!!
We spent a lot of kindergarten just sounding out words, so she was doing ok (I guess that’s subjective though) when she started first grade, but she really really blossomed and took off this whole year and became a really fluent reader. Yes it’s overwhelming and all of those programs you mentioned are great! Just take your time, look at samples, keep watching videos from each, keep asking questions and then go with what you feel most peaceful with. Best of luck this year! Let me know if you have any other Abeka questions!
Do Abeka’s phonics and spelling go together? Do they learn to spell the same types of words they are learning in their phonics lessons? Thanks so much for your help!!
@@periwinkle2493 yes and no. They are taking the same phonics blends they’ve learned and will use two or three for the week for their spelling words. But since they learn probably 150 phonics blends they don’t cover ALL of them in the spelling. But they do a ton of review so the children get plenty of exposure!
What size binder do you have for your cards? And what size if those things you put the cards in? (Can’t think what there called) Where did you get them?
Hi! i’m also only doing language and phonics, but i’m confused when to start teaching them the sounds and blending, or does that come later? also when do we use the test book
We are on lesson 106 of 1st grade. We have just hit where the creative writing changes into multi-day/multi draft writing. How did you go about making this not too much?
After several weeks and many different methods used, I realized it was too much (I mean they are only in 1st grade) and she was getting plenty of writing in the other books (language and letters&sounds) so I just skipped the writing and had her work on the writing in the other main books
“A cherry on top to finish the school year”
That was cute ☺️

I totally agree!!
When you are working with one girl what do you have the others do? Handwriting? Math? Just curious since I have multiple kids as well ❤
Do you think the lesson plan is necessary? Idk if I should buy it is kinda pricey.

The handbook for reading is a great resource! It’s basically their whole phonics program in one book. Reviewing that will help a ton.

I usually just use 1-2 inch binders

Do I still need to file for a PSA using Abeka?

@@thepracticalhomeschooler Do you find both the language student book and the letters and sounds book necessary?
