also, WW84 as released on a holiday when everyone was at home. ZSJL was released at 3am on a random Thursday. The fact that ZSJL pulled those numbers is HUGE.
Not to mention how WW84 has garnered disapproval from everyone (not even The Mary Sue was willing to defend it; that's a whole new level of awfulness) while the ZSJL has been getting universal praise from everyone.
Everyone I have spoken to or have read reviews about online think WW84 was not a great film at all and I agree with this after watching. Despite the good actors of the 3 lead characters ie. villain, WW and Steve Trevor, the dialogue written and storyline were poor (the villains dialogue was too over the top for Maxwell Lord). They needed several more revisions of the screenplay before going to production. The first WW was so much better!

While the general public and casual audience don't. So if they start doing rainbows and butterflies DC movies and the general public loves it, they will win. They don't want to be proven wrong, because if they are shown to have completely screwed the pooch and were the reason for the DCEU failures, then they aren't competent execs in the first place and making decision that work against themselves financially. In other words, they're bad leaders that react on emotion and fear rather than a plan, and the new streaming model requires more long term planning than movies. so yeah....it's the age old story of people trying really hard to save their skins because they know they dun f'd up. Thats why they were resistant to a director's cut of BvS (proves shortening the film was a disasterous decison) and never wanted this film to see the light of day (proves they wasted tons of cash on reshoots when they clearly had a very competent 2 part movie in their hands already...which not only would have been very profitable but also setup additional sequels). This'll make for an interesting business case to say the least as it progresses one way or another.

DC already had a flesh out multiverse with the animated series, CW, and video games, but then people started complaining about how dark the Snyder movies were. they wanted something like Marvels and so WB obliged and started making their movies lighter in tones.

@@SumDumGy Movie theaters don't like four hour movies for a very specific reason. If you show a four hour movie, that's the same time you could have shown two 2-hour movies. From their perspective, that means they only make half as much money. It's why a lot of editing happens in movies. To put the run-time at a proper length for the theaters. Also, a lot of theaters are still running at limited capacity, so really running movies in theaters is a much weaker proposition than seeking other avenues. As for cellphone service, I actually don't own one, so I have nothing to contribute on that end.

Any other director could make those same films just as good but fit the run time. Maybe if he was funding this all himself out of his own pocket he would get it.

It said little to nothing in that run time about the characters and the world building was all stated save the beginning explaination. The reason his theatrical cuts are non-sensical is that it takes Snyder 10 minutes over multiple scenes to either say one thing or the same thing 3 times. There could very well be a theatrical version of this movie that would have the same beats and everything. Get rid of Darkseid or Step. There is no need for both unless you lazily build a series long villian and have the other just to die. Get rid of the opening WW scene. It basically contradicts her character in the original Wonder Woman. Not to mention all feels done for the visual even though there was 100 better ways to subdue the criminal with that speed and power. @Demetrius Clayton Because thats the business he choose to to be a part of. You edit movies because thats your job and that is what your bosses are paying you for. Movies are whether you like this or not, are not about artist representation they are a business. If he wants that, he should work exclusively indie films. But as long as he is working the studio circuit his job, that he signs a contract to says he is there to make them money honey. Snyder's budgets are bloated at 225-250 Million when his movies are not making back enough to provide profit. Sure his movies typically let the company break even but if thats all they are doing then they are failing. His wife should never have been producer on some of his films as she just let him spend what he wanted on pretty graphics. He needs a much tighter leash on spending and a lot smaller budget. He spent 70 million on just the VFX and a few days of shooting. 70 Million is the budget of two seasons of Game of Thrones, each of those are an hour long so that is 13-20 hours of television depending on the season that he used up finishing the effects of a four hour movie much of the vfx already completed. That is a huge waste of money and its money the Studio will never see back. The snyder fans don't care if the movies make money, but that is his job. So yeah they should fire him because he is not doing his job. And sure HBO MAX could do something but really could they? If his budgets have to be 225-300 million which is FAR to high for a streaming budget can he even make the movies he wants to make on such limited budgets?

I did watch the Snyder cut. Enjoyed heaps more than the movie warner released. My family enjoyed more content, backstory, and had a great explanation of events leading up to climax. We want the Snyder verse to continue.

In some ways it seems the opposite to me. They lack even a healthy amount of arrogance to produce big movies without market testing and worriedly asking us nobodies if their movie is okay 100x before releasing it. If Hollywood were telling audiences what they're gonna get and what they're gonna like - you wouldn't have movies like Josstice league - Where 2 hours are cut, jokes are added, the color is brightened - all because audiences and critics called it too dark and dour. You don't remove all the engineers from the follow up to Prometheus. Ridley Scott didnt have full control of his Alien franchise because Hollywood does NOT dictate what audiences will get and what they'll like.

The only times I've had HBO was for the free trial period when signing up for cable, The Sopranos, and The Game of Thrones. Most of the programming on HBO and other services I couldn't care less about and it's a total waste of money to subscribe to for the occasional TV show or movie that interests me that happens very rarely.

The Snyder Cut is much more than a movie, he used his voice to bring fans mostly now at an age and maturity to accept a more realistic take of the beloved characters. Growing up in the seventies and eighties I have seen all the iterations of these characters from the animated jla complete with the saccharine wonder twins to the mature rated harley quinn animated series. I loved the vision and voice the snyder cut displayed and rejoiced the idea of burying the whedon cut from memory.

Thanks for all the backstory about this controversy. I'm new to all this, and just want to see a trilogy to epic classic ZSJL. Now I understand why Warner wants to move away from Snyder since Batman v Superman wasn't a hit making only $330 million. Directors need to create a compelling story in an agreed upon 2.5 hours. Not create a 4 hour movie in a superficial severely edited 2.5 hours. The reason I loved ZSJL is not just the action was awesome, but because the characters were fully developed, only then did I care about the action. Next time a director has a 4 hour movie, how about releasing it in the theaters as two 2 hour parts? I'm willing to pay full price twice if it is a great movie like ZSJL. Lastly DC should be integrated and holistic like Marvel. Make every movie or show can't miss on the universe storyline.
I think we have to stop calling ourselves "fans". We're customers and use our wallets to send our messages. To be honest, straight to streaming makes that a lot harder. They get the money whether we watch a particular show/movie or not. What if they have something we love and something we hate the same month? The actual number of people who stream any particular show doesn't matter because it doesn't affect revenue, only subscriptions do. There are no ratings that are used to calculate ad rates. This puts the "creators" in much more control because revenue is no longer directly tied to popularity.
Well said. But it's tied to popularity in the sense that an unpopular program is dead weight, taking a place in the schedule that could be used by a different program which would actually bring in subscriptions.
I assume they have tools to measure user engagement. Dead weight content will lead to users becoming bored and more likely to cancel or leave their subscriptions to lapse. E.g. If, say, Snyder's Justice League is the only thing that interests you on HBO Max, you will pay once and watch it, then cancel your subscription. If, on the other hand, there is a portfolio of content that you find interesting, you will have something to watch every day and you will probably keep your subscription going next month. The HBO service already records what content you have watched and for how long, so it shouldn't be too hard to correlate this data with the variations in subscription numbers.

Everyone I have spoken to or have read reviews about online think WW84 was not a great film at all and I agree with this after watching. Despite the good actors of the 3 lead characters ie. villain, WW and Steve Trevor, the dialogue written and storyline were poor (the villains dialogue was too over the top for Maxwell Lord). They needed several more revisions of the screenplay before going to production. The first WW was so much better!
ZSJL wasn’t released in theaters. Same with WW84. Therefore it does not mean a hit.

@@SumDumGy Movie theaters don't like four hour movies for a very specific reason. If you show a four hour movie, that's the same time you could have shown two 2-hour movies. From their perspective, that means they only make half as much money. It's why a lot of editing happens in movies. To put the run-time at a proper length for the theaters. Also, a lot of theaters are still running at limited capacity, so really running movies in theaters is a much weaker proposition than seeking other avenues.
As for cellphone service, I actually don't own one, so I have nothing to contribute on that end.

@Patrick Whelpley Yeah because none of his movies are that good when edited down. Because the man cannot edit and he has no concept of how to budget time, pacing, and money. Any other director could make those same films just as good but fit the run time. Because Snyder is all about the visuals and making things look pretty but does not realizing releasing nothing but 3+ hour movies is not financially stable. Maybe if he was funding this all himself out of his own pocket he would get it.

He does not need an editor, he needs a script doctor. The reason his theatrical cuts are non-sensical is that it takes Snyder 10 minutes over multiple scenes to either say one thing or the same thing 3 times.
There could very well be a theatrical version of this movie that would have the same beats and everything. Get rid of Darkseid or Step. There is no need for both unless you lazily build a series long villian and have the other just to die. Get rid of the opening WW scene. It basically contradicts her character in the original Wonder Woman. Not to mention all feels done for the visual even though there was 100 better ways to subdue the criminal with that speed and power.
There is so much bloat for spectacle in this movie that once the awe of it falls off, people will be saying this is basically Star Wars the Force Awakens. Especially if more movies are made.

Movies are whether you like this or not, are not about artist representation they are a business. If he wants that, he should work exclusively indie films. But as long as he is working the studio circuit his job, that he signs a contract to says he is there to make them money honey.
Snyder's budgets are bloated at 225-250 Million when his movies are not making back enough to provide profit. Sure his movies typically let the company break even but if thats all they are doing then they are failing.
His wife should never have been producer on some of his films as she just let him spend what he wanted on pretty graphics. He needs a much tighter leash on spending and a lot smaller budget. He spent 70 million on just the VFX and a few days of shooting. 70 Million is the budget of two seasons of Game of Thrones, each of those are an hour long so that is 13-20 hours of television depending on the season that he used up finishing the effects of a four hour movie much of the vfx already completed. That is a huge waste of money and its money the Studio will never see back.
The snyder fans don't care if the movies make money, but that is his job. So yeah they should fire him because he is not doing his job. And sure HBO MAX could do something but really could they? If his budgets have to be 225-300 million which is FAR to high for a streaming budget can he even make the movies he wants to make on such limited budgets?

I did watch the Snyder cut. Enjoyed heaps more than the movie warner released. My family enjoyed more content, backstory, and had a great explanation of events leading up to climax. We want the Snyder verse to continue.
But here's the thing, with the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Snyder Cut from both fans and critics, as well as WarnerMedia'a new "Multiverse" approach to DC on film, there is absolutely zero reason to NOT allow Zack Snyder to finish his story.

They lack even a healthy amount of arrogance to produce big movies without market testing and worriedly asking us nobodies if their movie is okay 100x before releasing it.
If Hollywood were telling audiences what they're gonna get and what they're gonna like - you wouldn't have movies like Josstice league - Where 2 hours are cut, jokes are added, the color is brightened - all because audiences and critics called it too dark and dour.
You don't remove all the engineers from the follow up to Prometheus.
Ridley Scott didnt have full control of his Alien franchise because Hollywood does NOT dictate what audiences will get and what they'll like.

The only times I've had HBO was for the free trial period when signing up for cable, The Sopranos, and The Game of Thrones. Most of the programming on HBO and other services I couldn't care less about and it's a total waste of money to subscribe to for the occasional TV show or movie that interests me that happens very rarely.

The Snyder Cut is much more than a movie, he used his voice to bring fans mostly now at an age and maturity to accept a more realistic take of the beloved characters. Growing up in the seventies and eighties I have seen all the iterations of these characters from the animated jla complete with the saccharine wonder twins to the mature rated harley quinn animated series. I loved the vision and voice the snyder cut displayed and rejoiced the idea of burying the whedon cut from memory.
Let’s all just show up to WB HQ like the intro to Justice League Unlimited and demand the #snyderverse

Thanks for all the backstory about this controversy. I'm new to all this, and just want to see a trilogy to epic classic ZSJL. Now I understand why Warner wants to move away from Snyder since Batman v Superman wasn't a hit making only $330 million. Directors need to create a compelling story in an agreed upon 2.5 hours. Not create a 4 hour movie in a superficial severely edited 2.5 hours. The reason I loved ZSJL is not just the action was awesome, but because the characters were fully developed, only then did I care about the action. Next time a director has a 4 hour movie, how about releasing it in the theaters as two 2 hour parts? I'm willing to pay full price twice if it is a great movie like ZSJL. Lastly DC should be integrated and holistic like Marvel. Make every movie or show can't miss on the universe storyline.

To be honest, straight to streaming makes that a lot harder. They get the money whether we watch a particular show/movie or not. What if they have something we love and something we hate the same month? The actual number of people who stream any particular show doesn't matter because it doesn't affect revenue, only subscriptions do. There are no ratings that are used to calculate ad rates. This puts the "creators" in much more control because revenue is no longer directly tied to popularity.
Well said. But it's tied to popularity in the sense that an unpopular program is dead weight, taking a place in the schedule that could be used by a different program which would actually bring in subscriptions.
Agreed, the term fan lost its meaning when the studios started fighting the fans.
I assume they have tools to measure user engagement. Dead weight content will lead to users becoming bored and more likely to cancel or leave their subscriptions to lapse.
E.g. If, say, Snyder's Justice League is the only thing that interests you on HBO Max, you will pay once and watch it, then cancel your subscription. If, on the other hand, there is a portfolio of content that you find interesting, you will have something to watch every day and you will probably keep your subscription going next month. The HBO service already records what content you have watched and for how long, so it shouldn't be too hard to correlate this data with the variations in subscription numbers.

@@siddharthakvr5154 Nothing about Snyder's version is edgy, its manufactured edge. Its not "Unsafe" honestly the DCEU has been more immature than marvel by far. I mean they kill of Superman just to hint he is not dead a few minutes later (A story point Snyder dropped mind you). At least marvel has the balls to kill of Tony and Cap (The two big names in the franchise) without hinting at them being revived in the same film.
