      @2005StangMan 5 лет назад +1

      Xeneron true. He really didn’t do that bad. But a series of iffy ball/strike calls, some fielder issues, and some good luck bounces turn a 1 run inning into a 10 run inning.

      Carpenter’s take on the 3-2 pitch was amazing.

    • @TheXeneron
      @TheXeneron 5 лет назад +2

      @Hey Mister DJ I mean, Fowler started with a borderline call that looked like it was right on the corner but as called a ball. Fouled a couple off, then didn't swing at two REALLY good backfoot sliders, and Folty missed the last pitch for a walk. Wong Bunted. Goldschmidt has a hard hit infield single. Ozuna's hit is pretty much the definition of throwing your bat at it to protect the plate, that pitch was at his shins. Lol. But it landed for a single. Then Molina hit into the double play that Freddie made the error on (if that's fielded cleanly it's almost 100% a double play, Molina is the slowest player on the Cards). Then against Carpenter it started with a good slider that broken down out of the zone that he took, then a missed fastball (Folty's fastball was missing arm side all inning), then another good backfoot slider that Carpenter didn't swing at, and then the foul, and then an unbelievable take by Carpenter on the slider that just barely broke inside. Most people swing at that, whether they foul it off or not, that's the most incredible take of the inning. Then Edman had the hard hit double. So they scored 4 runs on basically a walk in an at bat that had a borderline ball plus a dropped tip third strike, a bunt, an infield single, a bloop, an error, a walk with some incredible takes, and a double. That was Folty's day. I don't know how you can blame Folty for that.

      That’s usually for late innings in a blowout regular season game where some people see it as rude to keep scoring. In the first inning of a playoff game 5, you score as many runs as the other team will let you.

    Let me tell you, it was surreal to be a Cards fan at this game. There was a palpable pulse of postseason elimination excitement in the air before the game, but this first inning happened so fast that all signs of life from the home crowd fans died almost immediately and stayed that way through 90% of the game. Something that might be of intrigue to those not there which might not have come across on TV: I believe it was the 5th inning when Acuna got hbp to lead off the inning and that got the crowd fired up more than anything that night up to that point, and after that the Braves went on to get the bases loaded with 2 outs and the home crowd was showing actual signs of life at that point for the first time all game, but then the Braves grounded out to end the inning, no runs scored. That was really the nail in the coffin for the crowd. I got a feeling after the first that the dread was real and most probably knew there was no chance at a comeback, but the Braves had 9 full innings to hit to chip away at that lead. But after that 5th inning with no runs scored, it was just a matter of finishing the game because they have to play 9.
