A prince doesnt have to do the searching everytime shes missing, but he did, even take cares of her personally. he always told Pei Zhao to protect her even after she stabbed him. He has to protect her from his enemies especially when 2nd prince tried to poisoned her thats why he had to pretend he doesnt like and mistreat her to hide his true feelings

So in the interview, the male lead pointed something out about his character which I really liked because I don’t think the guy is “bad”, he just has too much of a greed for revenge. But the reason the male lead is so mean to the girl is because he is trying to fool the palace that he doesn’t care for her and hence people can’t use her as a hostage and do bad things to her. Yet, he was falling for the female lead a long time ago but pretended that he was still into the second girl. But the fact that the male lead freaking KILLED her family is just, inexcusable. Even though all he wanted was revenge for his wronged mother, he wronged many other people including himself. Note that he was crying as he slaughtered the grandfather and he can’t forgive himself for doing everything he’s done. Even until the end, he turns crazy and still believes that the girl is still out there. As the trailer suggest, it is more painful to remember than to forget. Idk if at the end he was looking for the girl or for the river of forget but at the end, he has suffered decades of pain and misery, longing for the girl possibly for the rest of his life until he joins her.
