    What I love about this scene is that Dean wasn't afraid of the giant neutralising him with his eye beams. He didn't know whether the giant was going to reactivate his weaponry, but it's a risk he took in order to keep Hogarth safe.

      I think it's also because he's familiar with the word "gun", but not with "weapon". • @Mr.OldSoul
      @Mr.OldSoul Год назад +13

      @@nothdmoon Kent probably went insane after trying over and over again to tell the general the giant is real. Kent saw the proof (the picture), many many tracks/evidence left behind including his car that was bitten into and then eaten by the giant, the train wreck, the hand in the house, and Hogarth's words/excuses not adding up made him go ballistic. When he finally convinced the military to show up to see the giant for themselves Dean disguised the giant as a work of art to trick the general.
      It worked and Kent felt ultimately defeated. Kent was an absolute mess and I assume he also questioned his own sanity. While the convoy began to leave with Kent in the middle of it all the giant accidentally revealed itself after saving two boys from falling to their deaths. He exploded with a "LOOK LOOK I TOLD YOU IT'S ATTACKING" finally FINALLY he went insane after proving he was right all along.
      The general and all the soldiers were in absolute disbelief and were more than likely terrified that he was right "Sweet mother of God.". They immediately called in air support and shot down the Giant after he fell and flew with Hogarth. The giant was shot down with Hogarth in his hands and heart broken thinking that his only friend had died.
      The military showed up probably full of Kent's fear mongering words that when they discovered that the giant survived without a scratch Kent jumped the gun to seize his opportunity and ordered the men to fire. The soldiers shot because the image that Kent hammered in their minds of a giant menace is right in front of them.
      I think the General was, sort of, ok with Kent giving the command considering that the giant Kent has been hunting is real, is intelligent enough to make a convincing disguise, and was seen in town "attacking" as Kent pointed out, can fly, took a direct hit from air support, and survived the fall without a scratch.
      I think the general was afraid of all the things Kent said about the giant and chose to say nothing against his out of rank order at the time

    This is where everything no longer becomes fun and games; it gets real very quickly and everyone's affected by it. Though his actions were in the right to protect Hogarth, Dean was quick to pick up on the Giant's defense mechanism. The giant is shattered at the thought of almost killing his human companion even though he was BUILT to be a weapon. Lastly with Hogarth, he's done everything he can to protect the Giant up until this point; and after being nearly obliterated he still chooses to stand by him.

Brings me back memories looking at this movie, I liked how Dean came and saved Hogarth from getting blasted, but this was sad to hear giant say "I'm not gun" they were only having fun but Hogarth doesn't know that giant's defense mechanism is reacting to guns that can shoot at him.

    What makes this scene even more sad is that giant realized that nightmare he had was real and is probably worried about the rest of his kind coming to Earth for what they were built to do invade but why earth we do not yet know Maybe because there's something about value, something alien on that planet they want or maybe it's just because they're afraid humans will be as thorn of their side in the future Maybe that's the reason this is all happening They start wars before they could start and end them before they could really end. This is self preservation may be, which would make perfect sense.Why these guys invade planets.

    The iron giant, any robot for that matter can fight it, be more then machine, be human. But they can’t fight their original programming without help, without strength, the reason his weaponry was reactivated was the idea of Hogarth’s little toy gun being an alien weapon charging towards him. Iron giant had programmed instincts for those specific weapons, implying that he was built for war against something that had weapons producing that same light, that same sound.
