You have to split the rear end from the transmission like I have the on in the video. The bottom shaft and gear is the pto drive and there is a snap ring on it the holds the gear on. Once you remove the is gear there is another snap ring behind it that you have to compress and then drive the pto shaft out the rear. This is assuming yours is the syncro-range trans. If it is the power shift you still have to break it at the same place but the pto is a little different.
I referenced the factory service manual to make sure I knew what I was talking about. I will be glad to explain in greater detail if needed just let me know. I hope you get it figured out.
I would start by checking the external shifter linkage to see if something is worn or out of adjustment. If the problem is internal you can start by taking the floor board off and top cover off the transmission. You might can see what is causing the problem. If the problem is internal you will have to split the tractor at the front of the transmission.
How did you get that synchronizer out, i have the same issue, split like you have it, took the plate off and the race from the large end, have the shift bracket out, I can't pull that assembly back and up to get it out.
@@rnccen I would love to help you but it's been so long since I made this video I don't really remember a lot of the details. I do remember that whole job being a major pain. I think this was probably the last one of those transmissions i worked on..
I am trying to split the tractor (3020 syncro) at the front of the transmission. It has 1 1/8 nuts that are stuck. Any ideas how to get these off? I can only get in there with a box end wrench. I am using a 3 foot cheater bar. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
You can try applying a little heat to the nuts. Also you could try applying pressure with the wrench and cheater bar then have someone hit the wrench with a big hammer and the impact may help break it loose. When using these techniques it is important to keep safety in mind.
I have the floor board off and top cover off the transmission. How do I tell if a gear is frozen onto the top shaft? I can see the rearmost gear on the topshaft does move independant of the front two gear when I crank the engine over. Th ank you.
hola soy de argentina tengo un tractor john deere 3530 con la caja de cambios atascada, alguna sugerencia de como solucionar mi problema?? desde ya muchas gracias..
+bellydump1974 If I was going to guess at the problem with just the information you gave me I would suspect that the injection pump is most likely going bad. I don't understand what you mean by the throttle won't stay ahead. If it put out a lot of white smoke when starting and is low on power it is most likely the injection pump. Also have you changed the fuel filters?
+bellydump1974 . Change the filters, drain sediment form underneath tap on tank. Maybe consider engine compression test may be cheaper than fuel injection pump overhaul first. If engine com down that your problem (should not be less the 300 psi and 10 psi difference between any 2 cylinders. Throttle is probably only cable slack or your rod linkage holes worn out. If the engine is not getting the last 200 rpm it will not produce the required HP.
+dudekiwi thank you.it seems like the mechanism that opens governor when starting isn't doing it's job.governor spring? once it starts it seems yo run normally but for the throttle not staying put that is it will move mback to low idle instead of staying where I put it.
oh well unless you have information and or about pump explode views it is best to get someone who knows abit about injection pumps to have a look. But with now adays google everything is only a matter of patients and you will find it on the net. Beautiful old tractors those
Hi, I have a 3020 JD syncro that seems like it is in two gears when I put it in reverse. I have the top cover off the transmission now. Is there a way for me to tell if the topshaft has a gear stuck? What should I look for in there. I want to know if I should take start splitting this tractor at the front of the transmisiion. Thank you for any help. Karl
@@karloftedahl4008 Thanks for the reply, my 4020 syncro linkage is a but loose, I have to go past the gear I want with the shifter and then back up as it doesn't engage if I don't do that. For example if I put it into 5th, it just grinds, if I go the reverse and then back into fifth, it works great.
I bet someone was using the down shift as a engine braking ........boom goes your quad change. Those transmission are so reliable it is usually only rough service or dick head operators are the problem
