I was working at Toy R Us in 2001 while I was in High School. I can't believe this specific era was caught, so cool! This video hits me in the heartstrings though. 22 years ago honestly does not feel that long ago, sigh.
I’m from 92. In 2001 the day before 9/11 I went to toys r us and my grandma bought me a creepy crawler bug maker set. Still remember like it was yesterday. The next day 9/11 happened and we got picked up from school early due to the attacks and I spend the next few days playing with my set and N64 and eating Burger King since some stores closed. I needed more goop to make my insects and toys r us was open but was so empty it was Erie. I’m 31 now. These kids in this video are all parents now I bey and have families of their own
I was working on the seasonal overnight crew during the Christmas 2001 season. Harry Potter was huge at the moment and I still remember the Monsters Inc display at the front of the store. Another huge seller that Christmas was the new at the time, Razor scooters. They had 1 or 2 other brand names but Razor is the only one I remember. Also, those shoes with the built in roller skates were VERY popular that season!
How could you forget the Action Man/Dr. X and Bionicle figures and that Pokemon marble shooter that were always in our faces, although the Pokemon one may have been from earlier year, it was hot though. They also had cool Spider-Man Marvel Legends and Dragon Ball Z figures though in the back and not hot advertised.
@@TheMasterofDisaster48 I remember many nights just packing out those plastic canisters the Bionicles came in. I don't remember Action Man/Dr.X but I was usually working in the Lego section, they called it the "Imaginarium" department at TRU where they sold the Leap Frog learning kits, old fashion puzzle boards (those fuckers were heavy as shit when packed 20-40 to a case!) and those Thomas The Tank Engine figures and accessories designed to soak parents by buying individual pieces 1 at a time at $5-$20. Even though I was born in 99, I used to go to my local toys r us all the time when I was a kid until they shut down in the mid 2010s. From going and looking at original xbox to getting games and accessories for my ds/dsi, a true trip down nostalgia lane. Being stuck in the Lego and superhero section to riding the "open" bikes, skateboards, scooters, and rip sticks in the back of the store. Thank you for this trip
I had so many of the toys shown in this video. Only thing missing was a clip of the Power Rangers aisle 🤣 Thanks for all these uploads, it's such a nostalgia trip seeing these toy and electronics sections from my childhood, so many hours spent in them waiting on my mom to finish grocery shopping.
This video makes me emotional for so many different reasons. This was hands down my best christmas you dont even understand the amount of games and dragonaball z/anime toys/merch i got. God i would do anything to go back to those times. now heres the bittersweet part. Even though that was my favorite christmas i personally know for others it was the worst.. Im born and raised in New york.....and. being that this was from 2001........ Its so surreal to see 9/11 being so fresh in society. It hits so close to home because my classmate lost her older cousin and the people in my town lost loved ones too. Infact we were so close and yet far we could even see the smoke from afar. Luckily my dad worked uptown and wasnt down town that tuesday. Man im so conflicted, cause tho i loved this christmas holiday looking back as an adult i could only imagine what my classmate and others were going through.
I remember doing Christmas shopping for my kids back in 2001. We would do the shopping so that Santa didn’t have to do it. My kids wanted that Gameboy advance thing the year it came out.
Shame there was no footage of the action figure aisles. Even into the early 2000s, they had Terminator 2 and POTF2 figures taking up space. At least in central Ohio.
Yeah, Toys R Us always felt like some kind of museums when it came to some of its merchandise. I remember seeing PS2’s and games well into 2014-2015, when most stores already stopped carrying the PS2, lol.
@@keybyss98 Yeah, Walmart had a number of straggling PS2 games for a long time. Bottom of the barrel stuff, usually. I remember seeing Guitar Hero Aerosmith sitting on the shelf for so long the cover had been sunbleached. That game came out in 2008, and I think I remember seeing it in like 2015-2016.
What a time capsule for sure. I remember I used to have the red-headed What's Her Face doll, one of the best toys I got that year. Thank you for the memories.
I wish that I could have recorded things when I was a kid. I still have dreams about massive amounts of Gundam merch in stores, like how I remember it in my local Toys-R-Us.
For me it's the Rescue Heroes at the beginning. Most underrated (and mishandled) franchise of all time. A toy line marketed to preschoolers, but a movie & TV show (especially season 1) that were AMAZING and could only be fully appreciated by older kids & adults. But most have no idea because Fisher-Price logo dissuaded them from seeing it.
I was a full grown adult when this video was made. So nostalgic even as an adult. I did have fun being a kid and going to Toys R Us. Sad knowing all the stores have closed down.
